Darrell Claude McIalwain died peacefully in his home on Monday, Jan. 20, 2020, surrounded by family.

He was born on Oct. 5, 1932, in Estherville, Iowa, the son of Claude E and a Hattie (Gentry) McIalwain. He attended school there until the 11th a grade when his family moved to g Ogilvie.

O One fine evening, he went out to eat supper with his family at the Dew s Drop D Inn located in Mora. Little did he h know that his waitress that day would be the love of his life. He and w Edith (Rogne) were united in marE riage on Oct. 5, 1952. In 1953, he was r draft d ed into service and deployed to t Korea. He received an honorable discharge in 1955. The following year d they began to build their family. They had five beautiful children. For 38 years, he worked loyally for Arcon, holding different positions however his favorite was driving his lowboy. He was well-known and loved by many as the infamous ‘Mac’ a nickname that will live on forever.

He spent his years hunting, trapping, raising hunting dogs, fishing, caring for the family farm, rooting for his children and grandchildren in sports and having coffee with his hunting buddies. Many of his friends will remember him by his CB name, Blue Leader.

He is remembered fondly and with love by his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Hattie McIalwain; siblings, Mary Johnston and Sharon Stigen; and granddaughter, Allison Grace Felde.

He is survived by his wife, Edith; children, Darrell Jr. (Del) (Annie) McIalwain, Cheryl (Scott Baune) Visser, Donald (Lisa) McIalwain, Darcy (Chris) Wilke, Charity (Robert) Felde; siblings, Lela Kruse, Jenene Barbknecht, Troy Nelson; 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, at the Lewis Lake Covenant Church, 1030 Grand Street, Ogilvie. Pastor Robert DeYoung officiated.

The Firehouse Liquor Store & Bar is looking for one (1) motived, energetic individual to work as a full-time Assistant Liquor Store Manager.

Under general supervision of the Liquor Store Manager, the Assistant Liquor Store Manager is responsible for assisting the Store Manager to organize, develop, plan, coordinate and supervise the day-to-day operations of the liquor store and bar. The position is expected to work both retail clerk and bartending shifts whenever needed, flexibility is key. Specific schedule will be determined based on needs of the Firehouse.

The applicant should be a motivated, self-starter with minimal supervision. They should be a team player who works well with the public. Job duties include working with the public, stock shelves, clean, operate a cash register, make change, count money, and lift up to 50 pounds.

Part-time position: Approximately 15 hours per week including weekend shifts and help with liquor deliveries every other week. Starting pay is $11.77/hour, plus weekend differential of $1.00/hour.

Full-time position: 30-40 hours per week including every other weekend. Includes benefits which will be prorated, and a portion paid by the employee, for less than 40 hours. Starting pay depends on experience, plus weekend differential of $1.00/hour.
