Oct. 28-29: Haunted Museum The Kanabec History Center invites kids and their parents for an evening of haunted games, crafts, treats and a Spooky Halloween BOOffet from 5 to 8 p.m.

There will be spooky vignettes of life-sized figures and costumed characters throughout the exhibit hall and historic buildings. There will also be an art show.

Randi Carol (Gunderson) Hogan died at home in Minneapolis on Monday, Aug. 22, 2011. She was 75 years old.

She was born in Minneapolis on Aug. 24, 1935 to her parents, Carl and Ragna Gunderson. She worked for many years as an office secretary and was a longtime member of Crosstown Covenant Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James F. Hogan.

She is survived by brother, Norman (Carol) Gunderson; stepchildren, Susan Olson, Barbara (Stephen) Arthur and Jane (Robert) Sinksen; cousins; 12 stepgrandchildren and 15 stepgreatgrandchildren.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011 at Crosstown Covenant Church in Minneapolis.

Pastor John Jacobi officiated.

Music was provided by Kathy Gunderson.

Pallbearers were Jim Evenson, Bill Martin, Dan Gunderson, Tom Weiber and Gary Gunderson.

Burial was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

THANK YOU We want to thank everyone who helped us through a difficult time. Thank you to the sheriff ’s department and ambulance crew for their quick response to our 911 call, to my brother Mel who was there for me, to Pastor Boettner for prayers and visits while Wayne was at Abbott, to our children for being with us, and for the many prayers and calls. Wayne is improving daily. Thank you all.

NEW 2011 DEER SEASON INFORMATION Chronic Wasting Disease. The discovery of the disease in southeast Minnesota has prompted several regulatory changes.

New CWD management area. A new CWD management area has been created. It has been assigned deer area 602.

New deer management designation.

A new deer area designation has been

created called “Hunter Choice”. Hunters will be allowed to take one either-sex deer per year in one of these areas. There is no lottery application.

Firearm and muzzleloader lottery either-sex permits. If successful in the lottery, hunters can use their permit in either the firearm or muzzleloader season, provided they have a valid license for that season.

There is no early antlerless deer season this year. The early antler- less season will be considered annually when formulating deer management recommendations. Early antlerless hunting will be used if necessary in 2012.

The firearm, muzzleloader, and archery special hunt tables are online only.

Important Dates Sept. 8 (Thursday): Either sex Deer and Special Area Permit application deadline.

Sept. 17 – Archery opening date.

Nov. 5 – Statewide (A) Firearms opening date.

Nov. 19 – Late Southeast (B) Firearms opening date.

Nov. 26 – Muzzleloader opening date.

Nov. 3 – Firearms Deer opening date for 2012.

Shooting Hours Shooting hours for big game are one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.
