Third Grade Science Project
The third-grade science had a unit on weather. Each child had the opportunity of making an anemometer, a wind speed device. Mr. Nelson, third-grade science teacher and Bob Haugen helped the students build their own anemometer which they got to take home to check the wind speed.
School Walk for Diabetes
Local Bagpiper Presents at Trailview On March 23, Dr. James Williams gave a bagpipe demonstration to the fifth-grade students at Trailview. The bagpipe was introduced to the students during their general music world instruments unit. They really enjoyed seeing and hearing the instrument live in the music room. Dr. Williams brought four different bagpipes and played each one for the students. He gave a brief history of the instrument, explained how it works, talked of his inspiration on why he decided to learn to play it and answered many thoughtful questions.

Thank You Sponsors from the Mora High School Robotics Team #4166 A big thanks go out to our generous sponsors who made this year’s competition possible for the Mora High School Robotics team. Thanks for your support and generosity! Without you this competition/learning experience would not have been possible. Thanks for a successful season!
Trailview School participated in the sixth annual School Walk for Diabetes on April 17 and 18. Students in grades 3,4,5, and 6 walked for about an hour during their phy. ed. and music classes. During the month of April, students learned the importance of exercise and eating healthy foods to help keep their bodies healthy well into their adult life. The American Diabetes Association is a sponsor of this event and provided health kits for educational purposes.

Trailview students and staff walked 1,348 miles during this two-day event and raised just under $2,000. The top fundraisers were Tearance and Ethyn Drencho, Nick Madison, Molly Lukenbill, and Elijah Franz. All donations were sent to the American Diabetes Association. Trailview School would like to thank the community for their support with the Diabetic Walk.
UMD Medical Student Presents The sixth grade had a UMD medical student, Ryan McFarland, give a presentation about the brain. He provided kids with hands-on opportunities to better understand how different parts of the brain work together. He showed the students a real brain and shared what different parts of the brain do for us. Finally, he answered the MANY questions the students had.

Creator, Savior, Father He hangs the world on nothing and we wonder if he’s there? He spins it on its axis and we wonder if he cares? He clothes the world in splendor and we wonder what to wear. He wants for us to trust him and we wonder if we dare. Almighty God, Eternal Power. We see your giving hand and love for man. Creator God, Divine in nature, healing, forgiving, loving and kind. He came to save the sinner and we wonder who is this? He showed to us the Father. We betrayed him with a kiss. He bore our sin and sorrow and we raised to him our fist. His love is overflowing. Just how long can we resist? Savior of men, Oh precious Jesus, You are our sacrifice, it was your plan. Redeeming love, our God incarnate, Your precious blood ran down, to rescue man. He came to me so gently and revealed to me my heart. So deceitful and so wicked, his Word was like a dart. The veil is being lifted. I see he is the Way, The Truth, the Life, the Answer. Forgive my sin, I pray. By faith in him, I’ve been adopted. I am his child now, I have his name. Forever joined, joint heir with Jesus, and by his cleansing blood, never the same.

CONSERVATION PROJECTS AND IDEAS REQUESTED The Pine Soil and Water Conservation District is looking for conservation practices to install with cost share funds and projects that we can submit in grant proposals. We receive a limited amount of state cost share funds to use for projects each year. We also can apply for grants for projects. If we get more projects than we have state cost share funds for, we can then apply for grants for the additional projects. This means that if you are thinking strongly about doing a project and can wait a year or two to have it installed, this could be for you. Eligible projects include: critical area planting, diversions, field windbreaks, shelterbelts, grass waterways, ag waste management, filter strips, sediment basins, lakeshore and streambank stabilization, roadside protection, stripcropping, unused well sealing, forestry conservation practices, for stewardship plans and nutrition management planning. The cost share can be up to 75%. There are currently a couple watershed studies and restoration plans happening in the county; the Snake River Watershed and the St. Croix Watershed, which includes all of Pine County except a small part in the Nemadji Watershed in the northeastern part of the county. One of the main goals of these watershed restoration plans is to reduce the amount of phosphorus entering into the St. Croix River. These studies and restoration plans will give us a better chance at receiving grant funds for projects. We also want to encourage people to do projects to reduce the amount of phosphorus getting to the St. Croix River so we can meet our water quality goals. This will help keep our waters at their designated uses and we will be able to continue to enjoy them. If you think you might have a project, please give Sam Martin a call at 320-216-4242.

THANK YOU Thank you to all the firemen who responded to the fire in our machine shed on Friday night. Rush City and Hinckley departments aided Pine City in fighting the fire which spread to the barn. A special thank you to Paul Miller who talked to my grandsons. He handled the situation in a very sensitive and compassionate manner. Marietta Merrick
THANK YOU Thank you to Teena and Paul Bacigalupi for their stewardship in bringing Ten Thousand Things “Vasa Lisa” to Pine City last week. Their collaboration with Pine Center for the Arts, the Arts Council, and Heritage Players is truly a lesson in “spirit of play” in bringing arts for EVERYONE to Pine City! We are so fortunate to have a broad base of community that values the arts as an imperative for the emotional health of community. Kudos! Mary Kay Brautigan
A limited number of free skin cancer screenings by boardcertified dermatologists will be offered Monday, May 7 and Tuesday, May 8 at CentraCare Clinic – Health Plaza, 1900 CentraCare Circle in St. Cloud. Interested participants must call (320) 229-4924 between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 4, for an appointment time. No walk-ins will be accepted. This 15th annual CentraCare Clinic screening coincides with National Melanoma/Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month, sponsored by the American Academy of Dermatology and CentraCare Clinic. May is Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month. The screenings are part of a national campaign to encourage early detection and teach prevention of skin cancer, the most common form of cancer in this country. Approximately one million new cases of skin cancer will be diagnosed in the United States this year. One person dies of melanoma every hour. Skin self-examinations consist of periodically looking over your body for any changes in the size, color, shape or texture of a mole, the development of a new mole or any other unusual changes in the skin. Any of these signs should be reported to a dermatologist right away.
