EDITH A. A VOIGHT Edith A. Voight died on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2016 at St. Clare Living Facility in Mora. She was 86 years old. She was born Nov. 10, 1929 to Robert and Tyra Barn. She had four siblings, Almeda, Anna, Herman and Evangeline. Part of her childhood was spent on a small farm in Comfort Township and attending the “Brick School.” She was united in marriage to Arno “Bud” Voight on Nov. 9, 1945. He was the love of her life, best friend and favorite dance partner. They began their family on a small farm in northern Whited Township and have three children, Eileen, Arnie, and Randy. The family moved to southern Whited Township in the late 1950s when they bought a larger farm owned by her father. Th is farm was their home for more than 50 years. She was a great farm wife; tending the large vegetable garden, caring for her family, and working beside her husband on the farm. She would throw and stack hay bales on the racks in the fields and unload the racks into the barns, milk the cows, feed the stock, and most any of the strenuous jobs involved with making a family farm successful. However she wouldn’t do one job – drive the equipment. She laughed about questions and comments she got about her working so hard on the hay racks while her husband sat driving the tractor. The truth was that everyone was safer when he was at the wheel because the smooth operation of a clutch transmission eluded her. When her husband was unable to work due to a serious accident she took a factory job in Mora at the newly-built Mora Manufacturing Plastics (later known as Amoco, Sheller Globe and EPC). She was one of the first employees hired and operated a plastic press for many years. One day an opening for a forklift driver was posted and when she noted the large wage increase she thought, “Why not me?” After much discussion management allowed the very determined Edith to try the position; she became their first female forklift driver. She was proud of her work and

Hosted by her children, Linda, Russell, Dianne and Debbie. We hope you can stop by and wish Elaine a Happy Birthday. JAN. 11 FARE FOR ALL The last day to order the Jan. Fare For All is today for distribution on Jan. 13 at Trio Community Center (111 Maple Ave.) from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. Orders will be taken at Emma’s Pizza (ask for Jackie), Lakes and Pines CAC and Seven County Senior Federation (ask for Shannon). was grateful for the opportunity to prove herself. She worked in the warehouse and loading docks until her retirement. Many of the friendships made at Amoco continued throughout her life. She loved to dance with her husband, especially polkas; so an occasional Saturday night at Pine Camp or Fish Lake with friends was a fun night out. Playing cards with friends was something else they enjoyed as often as possible. Traveling was an adventure they enjoyed during retirement; they visited California, Alaska, Hawaii, Canada and Switzerland as well as wintered in Lake Havasu City. After her husband’s death in 2005 she spent one more winter on the farm then moved to Pinecrest Manor Senior Housing. She quickly adjusted to “city living” and found purpose in visiting shut-ins, providing rides to church and shopping and helping others. Playing cards continued to be a favorite past-time and we often found her in the community room with a group of fellow residents. Reading cookbooks and trying out new recipes also kept her busy and her friends and family well fed. In July of 2013 she moved into St. Clair’s Living Community. She accepted the changes in her lifestyle with grace and patience. She continued to help others offering smiles and simple acts of kindness. She lived a simple life philosophy: Choose to be happy and help others. She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Bud; siblings, Almeda Johnson, Anna Blume, Carl Barn and Evangeline Olson; son-in-law, Jim McCollough and infant grandchildren, Heather McCollough and John and Jason Voight. She is survived by daughter, Eileen McCollough; sons, Arnie (Jackie) Voight, Randy (Brenda) Voight; grandchildren, Aaron (Lisa) Voight, Jeremy Voight, Trevor (Janelle) McCollough, Lisa (Larry) Smith, BrieAnn (Desmond) Merkwan, Kimberly Voight; greatgrandchildren, Andrew and Ella Voight, Samantha, Cody, and Brady Smith, Ian and Ainsley McCollough, MacKenzie, Rowan, and Abby Merkwan and Skylar Voight. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church in Mora with Rev. Donald Polege officiating. Music will be provided by Karen Danielson. Visitation will be from 10 until 11 a.m. at the church. Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Aaron Voight, Jeremy Voight, Trevor McCollough, Lisa Smith, BrieAnn Merkwan and Kimberly Voight. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements by Dresser-Methven Funeral Home.
