March 23 Ogilvie Food Shelf Anniversary In celebration of the Ogilvie Food Shelf ’s 15 anniversary, St. Kathryn’s Catholic Church will host entertainment provided by three local groups as well as refreshments at 4 p.m.

A freewill donation or donation of a food item for the food shelf will be accepted.

March 24 American Legion Auxiliary The Auxiliary will meet at Bowe’s Restaurant at 1:30 p.m.

Experimenting with color can be fun but the bathroom might not be the place to do it. Using strong colors can sometimes cause unwanted reflections. ou’re about to tear out walls, add new plumbing or perhaps even add a new room. How will you survive the rubble and confusion?

These tips will help you keep your construction project going smoothly.

Time Required: Be forewarned: Remodeling projects often take much longer than expected

Here’s How:

Find out which worker will be responsible.

1. Review the contract with your contractor.

Make sure everyone agrees on the work that will be completed and how long it will take. Also be clear on the types of materials that will -- and will not -- be used.

4. To avoid confusion, choose one person in your family to act as spokesperson.

2. Find out what days and hours work will be conducted. Will carpenters show up on Saturday?

Will plumbers ring your doorbell at 7 am?

3. You may need to give out keys to your home.

14. Expect delays. Your workers may encounter unforeseen problems. Materials may not arrive on time. One missing worker may throw the construction off schedule.

15. When requesting changes, go through your architect. If you do not have an architect, speak to the general contractor or supervisor.

Spring Home Improvement Have A Smelly Fireplace?

After a long season of use, fireplaces need to be cleaned. Many homeowners think this is a job that can be put off until the fall, but spring is an ideal season to have the chimney and flue cleaned and inspected.

One reason to include scrubbing the chimney as part of spring cleaning is to cut down on odor. After using a fireplace, a buildup of creosote forms in the chimney. As the weather gets warmer, creosote deposits can start to smell sour and that odor will seep into the home. Old Tyme Country School Needs a New School Marm The Kanabec History Center is looking for a new teacher for this coming Old Tyme Country School program. This is a paid position, payment based on experience, covers the 3 weeks of classes and some prep time. Qualified candidates will have had teaching experience (teaching lic. not necessary), enjoy working with children and creating an era-appropriate curriculum. The main purpose of the program for the students is a living history experience and of course to have fun.

A total of 89 students attended last season’s 3 oneweek sessions of Old Tyme Country School. The sessions take place on the Kanabec History Center grounds in the one room Whittier School House usually in July and early August. Each one-week session of country school has students first grade through eighth grade. The Old Tyme Country School teacher leads the children in lessons and games from the early 1900s. Students come to class dressed in costumes and bring a lunch bucket or basket. On each Friday family and friends are invited to a student program followed by an ice cream social and lemonade. Students bring cookies to share during the ice cream social.

It will also review the features that distinguish SLR from film cameras and how to set and use those features as well as how ISO affects getting a more correctly exposed image.
