Luella Mae Nelson of Mora, died on Thursday, May 13, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. She was 94 years old. She was bborn on Oct. 330, 1926, in Bismarck, B North N Dakota to D William and W LLouise (Shafffer) Manthie. She grew uup on the ffamily farm, tthe second oof 12 siblings aand attended North Fork N School until the eighth grade. After graduating eighth grade, she worked for Mrs. Olson doing housework and milking her two cows. She later went to Minneapolis to work for Majestic Cleaners for a few years then was united in marriage to James Nelson. To this union three children were born; David, Carol and Donald. They resided on a farm south of Bock and years later divorced. She sought employment in Minneapolis and worked at Munsingwear Factory. She met and married John Peterson and moved to a farm south of Bock and later moved to a farm in Mora. To this union, two sons were born, John Jr. and Richard. Her husband John passed away in 1980. In 1982, she married Elvin “Bud” Nelson. He was the love of her life and her soulmate for 23 years. He passed away in August of 2005. She worked for 30 years and retired from E.P.C. in Mora. Throughout her years she had a lifelong love of working the farm and caring for animals.
She set quite an example for her children as they could see through her that hard work and perseverance was what it took to succeed. She believed that to live a long, happy life is to love one another, to enjoy every moment and to laugh, because it is good for the heart. As a result, this trait has been handed down to her children, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren. She independently resided in Mora for the past eight years. She enjoyed her space, her time here and met many wonderful friends, enjoying coffee and conversation at her apartment complex. She embraced her grandchildren and adored them. They were her blessing, the light of her world and time with them was precious. Her grandchildren loved her dearly. She was a hostess at heart. She enjoyed all the family gatherings and holidays over the years. She was an exceptional baker, and her cooking was something everyone looked forward to. Entertaining and serving was one of her natural God given talents that she shared with all her loved ones. A beautiful lifelong gift of a heart so nurturing and caring for all who entered her kitchen. Never will we forget stacks of yummy pancakes at sunrise and with a little extra love of added goat milk. All who graced her kitchen felt her loving care, each and every one of us. We will treasure and remember our special times always at the kitchen table and cherish all the celebrations we had together. On her homestead she always had animals and loved having a hobby farm. She raised dairy cows and beef cattle. She also raised horses, sheep, goats, chickens, pigs, rabbits, doves and cared for an orphan fawn. She enjoyed tending her vegetable garden and was proud of her harvest produced for canning. Her green thumb and knowledge of beautiful flowers and plants she lovingly pruned and
cared for adorned her property. She spent her pastime with family and friends, traveling, reading, listening to music, scrapbooking memorabilia and pictures, sharing stories, doing word searches and enjoyed fishing. Her sweet smile, tender hugs, loving kind heart and cheerful spirit will forever be deeply missed. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. May God bless and keep her. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents, William and Louise; siblings, Lucille, Margaret, Betty, Henry, Edward, George, Gordan, Eugene, William Jr. and Francis; husbands, James Nelson, John Peterson Sr. and Elvin “Bud” Nelson; sons, Richard Peterson and John Peterson, Jr.; daughterin-law, Janet Nelson; and son-in-law, Bill Blanchard. She is survived by son, David Nelson; daughter, Carol Blanchard (Nelson); son, Donald (Sue) Nelson; grandchildren, Anita, Gina, David Jr., Carey, Kimberly, Justin, Kelly, Richard Jr., Joey, Cooper and Delaney; 17 great-grandchildren and four great-greatgrandchildren; brother, Albert Manthie; cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and many friends. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora with Pastor Bob DeYoung officiating. The service will be live streamed to the funeral home’s Facebook page. Memorial visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Borgholm Cemetery. Condolences may be posted at www.aifuneralhome.com.

At Welia Health, we are just as committed to your emotional wellbeing as we are to your physical health. We encourage you to set aside some quiet time to check-in on your own mental health – to ask some important questions such as: Am I able to fulfill all my daily responsibilities? Do I still find joy in the things that once brought me joy? How have my behaviors changed? How am I sleeping? Do I feel muscle tension in my neck or shoulders? Am I as active as I used to be? Also consider the duration of your symptoms. Everyone has bad days, but if you’re struggling for longer than two weeks, that is cause for concern.
MAY IS MENTAL HEALTH MONTH What better time to get the help you deserve?
