ATV TRAILS OPEN, YOUTH SAFETY TRAINING CLASSES POSTPONED In a typical year, Minnesota’s ATV clubs hold over 75 ATV Safety Training Classes for riders age 10 to 15, certifying over 2,500 youth to be legal to ride ATVs. Unfortunately, this is not a typical year. All classes are postponed until further notice, as part of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources response to COVID-19. The good news is that many of the State ATV Trail Systems opened on May 1, giving the riding public a great opportunity to escape the confi nes of their homes and ride their ATVs, while practicing social distancing. Some ATV trails remain closed due to spring thaw and wet conditions. Before heading out, riders should check the Minnesota DNR website for the open/closed status of state ATV trails and State Forest Roads. The website also features ATV regulations, trail maps and other helpful information. For additional details, contact the DNR Info Center by phone at 651-296-6157, or by email at info.dnr@state.mn.us.

CLASSES RESUME FOR HIGH SCHOOL EMERGENCY RESPONSE STUDENTS By Kirsten Faurie editor@moraminn.com Mora High School students taking a special course providing emergency response training have resumed lessons. Th is is the first time the Emergency Medical Responder Initial Course has been offered to Mora High School students through a partnership between the school, Welia Health and Pine Technical and Community College. PTCC President Joe Mulford said this course could be used as a stepping stone into a medical career or prepare them to be good citizens. Mora High School Principal Brent Nelson said he was proud to be able to offer students a unique opportunity for college credit and career training at no cost to the student. “I’m kinda jealous,” he laughed. “Th is is a fantastic opportunity for you,” he said. “You never know who you will come across and who you are going to help in life. Shortly after classes began in Feb. 26, they were postponed due to the global coronavirus outbreak. Classes resumed mid-May with care for social distancing and disinfection guidelines.

USPS ASKS DOG OWNERS TO HELP PREVENT ATTACKS U.S. Postal service Contributed The Postal Service continues to fulfi ll its mission to provide essential services that process and deliver information, communications and goods vital to residents. To ensure the safety of our delivery personnel, the Postal Service is asking dog owners to keep their animals secured when deliveries are being made. The Postal Service offers the following safety tips for dog owners: • When a carrier delivers mail or packages to your front door, place your dog in a separate room and close that door before opening the front door. Dogs have been known to burst through screen doors or plate glass windows to attack visitors. • Parents should remind children and other family members not to take mail directly from carriers in the presence of the family pet. The dog may view the carrier handing mail to a family member as a threatening gesture. • If a carrier feels threatened by a dog, or if a dog is loose or unleashed, the owner may be asked to pick up their mail at a Post Office or other facility until the carrier is assured the pet has been restrained. If the dog is roaming the neighborhood, the pet owner’s neighbors also may be asked to pick up their mail at the area’s Post Office. One bite is one too many. When your mail carrier arrives, make sure your dog is properly restrained or…better yet…just moved inside and secured.
