The Pine County Fair suggestion box: ‘Nice jumpy ride, but where’s the poker and puppets?’: Deep in the U of M’s 2018 survey report on the Pine County Fair is the section “Survey responses with suggestions receiving only one mention.” In other words, just one of the more than 1,000 people taking the survey wrote that response. There were a lot of ideas, really interesting ideas – though some were maybe (“Shorten the pork chop line”) not entirely serious.

EXCITING TIMES Last week’s most read stories
Below are last week’s most read stories on the Kanabec County Times website, www.MoraMinn.com. 1. Welcome to the World’s Greatest High School: The motto hangs on the wall of the Mora High School office and is written on signs as you enter the building: Welcome to the world’s greatest high school. Academically, students at Mora High School perform above state average on standardized tests; athletes win state championships and arts receive accolades. However, the building itself is something Mora High School struggles with. While instructors and students are on summer break, Buildings and Grounds Director Chip Brandt is at his busiest coordinating maintenance and finishing repair projects before students return in September. 2. Pizza Pub re-brands under new, former owner: Rick Herzog first opened a Pizza Pub in Mora in 2015. The restaurant has since transitioned through two other owners, before once again coming into the hands of Herzog in January, 2019. Seven months in to the new ownership, Herzog has made some changes to the pub in hopes of solidifying a consistently positive image in the mind of his customers. (459 pageviews) 3. Program helps low-income households receive tax refunds: Tax time is one of the most critical moments in the financial lives of low-to-moderate income households. Tax refunds, boosted by vitally important tax credits, can account for 30 percent or more of a family’s annual income. For many of the clients that Lakes and Pines serves, their tax refund is the largest amount of money they will receive at one time throughout the year.
