Attention Substitute Teachers & Substitute Paraprofessionals Mora Schools Need You! Certified educators and/or people interested in substitute teaching (K-12, ALC) and/or substituting as a paraprofessional in the Mora School District are invited to attend an information meeting/training to be held on Thursday, August 24, 2017: 2:00-3:30 p.m.

Optional Break-Out Sessions (High School Updates, Elementary Updates, Technology) Those in attendance will receive an appreciation gift and will get paid for their attendance at the training after their first day of subbing. The substitute teacher rate of pay was recently increased to $125 per day and substitute paraprofessionals start at over $12 per hour.

The Minnesota Legislature, recognizing the shortage of teachers in our state, provides a procedure for people holding four-year degrees (BA or higher) whereby they may apply for “Limited Licensure.” Completion of this procedure through the Minnesota Department of Education provides a person with the licensure needed to serve as a short-call substitute teacher in Minnesota schools whether or not the individual has a teaching degree.

Substitute paraprofessionals must have 60 semester credits and/or an A.A. degree or higher, or successful completion of the ParaPro test with a minimum score of 460.

At the meeting on August 24th, you will receive information regarding District policies and procedures and complete the annual required trainings. Building principals will be on hand to answer questions.

We encourage all current and prospective substitute teachers, as well as all current and prospective substitute paraprofessionals to attend this meeting.

Required documentationEveryone: Please bring 2 current forms of identification (i.e. passport, driver’s license, birth certificate, social security card, etc.).

Participants will learn how to dig clay, harvest tempering agents and will then construct a clay vessel which will dry overnight. On Sunday, they will fi nish the surface details and temper the clay vessel in a firing pit. Saturday will be from noon to 4 p.m.; Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A light lunch and refreshments will be provided.

A minimum of five participants is required, children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
