STEVEN A. BASSETT Steven Alfred Bassett of Littlefork, formerly of Mora, died on Friday, Aug. 25, 2017, at his home after a long battle with cancer. He was 54 years oold.

He was born on April 3, 1963, in Kanabec C County to parents, Don and Lorraine (Lamm mers) Bassett. Born the fi ft h of six children, he ggrew up on the family farm in Peace Township aand attended Mora High School through the 110th grade.

He enjoyed playing softball for various teams in his younger years. He attended Pine Techniccal College to learn building trades and pole bbarn building. He worked for Midwest Framers in Burnsville for several years before returning to Mora where he continued his building skills. He also worked for Boatel in Mora building catamarans. In 2008 he moved to Littlefork where he continued to work in the building trades until his passing.

He always loved to be outdoors, whether working, hunting, fishing or just kicking back having a drink or two with the guys. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by brothers, Jim, Tim and Doug (Clarise); sisters, Annette (Gary) Lazinski and Audrey (Dale) Clementson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service was held on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, at the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora with Rev. Andy Berry officiating.

VIOLA M. FRIDSTROM Viola Myrtle Fridstrom died on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016, in McMinnville, Oregon. She was 100 years old.

She was born June 12, 1916, in Spring Lake to Charles and Selma (Rystron) Hegg.

Her siblings were Virginia, Mildred, Harry and Wendell. She spent her childhood in Spring Lake, graduating from eighth grade, the highest level of education at the time. She was the family caregiver. After suffering influenza and mastoiditis, she lost most of her hearing, which dashed her desire to become a nurse.

After a few years, she met Elmer Fridstrom through a friend. They were united in marriage in 1933. They settled on a small farm in Rush Point, where they raised four children, Wendell Fridstrom (Pat, deceased) of Cambridge, Rosalie Ludwig (Gary, deceased) of Mora, Delores “Dee” Larocca (Angelo Guidi) of McMinnville, Oregon and John Fridstrom (Claudia) of Mora.

They worked side by side farming, and to supplement their income, her husband played in a small local dance band. She would often write the orchestrations for the band members. She wore many hats, working during the Depression at a federal cartridge factory in Minneapolis, wallpapering for $ 1.00 a room, as a nursing assistant at the state hospital, all while managing to be very active in her church. Her faith was always strong.

When farming proved to be too hard for them, they sold the farm and moved to Mora, where he worked in a factory and she again did nursing assistant work at the local hospital. They spent many years in Mora.

Her husband passed in 1986. Shortly afterward, she moved to Mountain View, California, to live with her daughter, Dee. Here again, she would continue her caregiving by doing live-in home care nursing for several years.

She and her daughter enjoyed several trips, two on the Mississippi Queen Riverboat to New Orleans, one from Minnesota to New Orleans; and a trip to Canada and around California.

When her daughter retired in 2004, they moved to McMinnville, which was the fi nal move. In McMinnville she involved herself, wherever she was, in her church. She loved the ladies in the quilting group at St. John, and volunteered in the kitchen of the senior center until her 90s. She so loved tea parties and the annual Christmas open house the first Friday in December, playing Chicken Foot with friends and neighbors, Lady Bugs, and cooking Swedish meals. If you had dinner with us, you would probably go home with a plate of Krupp Kaka.

We love you, Mom, and miss you. She will be missed so very much. Bye. She is survived by her children; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brunswick with Pastor Sierra Westerman officiating. Music was provided by Katie Nelson and Rosalie Ludwig. Daugher, Dee LaRocca spoke on a time of remembrance, great-grandson Bennett Mattson read the Rainbow Bridge and grandson, Steve Mattson and greatgrandson Clint Mattson were readers. Granddaughter Sue Fahrendorff was the urnbearer.

Burial was in Immanueal Lutheran of Brunswick cemetery.
