NOV. 13 - 16 PCHS PRESENTS ALICE IN WONDERLAND The Pine City High School musical production of Alice in Wonderland will be performed Nov. 13-16 at the new high school auditorium.

The Spanish IV College in the Schools students attended an on-campus Field Day at the University of MN on Oct. 31. They learned about Mexican muralism and the Mexican celebration of Día de los Muertos. After their Field Day, they were joined by the Swedish students visiting from Borlange and their chaperones, as well as Mora High School graduates who currently attend the University of MN. The Swedish students enjoyed a day visiting the art of Minneapolis including the sculpture garden, MIA, and the Weisman Art Museum and had lunch with the Spanish IV students before returning to Mora.

Trailview School’s Science Program has had a number of community resources help educate our students in Mr. Goebel’s Science Specialist Classroom. Topics ranged from Tony Miller from the DNR discussed preventing Buckthorn spreading to electrical lyceums from East Central Electric.

Mora High School students involved with the “School to Work” program had an opportunity to go on a field trip to the Local 49 Training Center in Hinckley. While there they learned about an apprenticeship program for highly skilled craftsman. The purpose of the apprenticeship and training program is to train the operating engineer of today and tomorrow.

The students were treated to operating heavy equipment such as a dozer, a skimmer, a front loader and a crane to name a few.

Mora School bus drivers attended meetings at Trailview and Fairview to talk about safety on the bus with students in grades K-6.

This past week members of our FFA were able to travel to Louisville, KY. as Chris Pederson, a sophomore, was able to compete in the Dairy Handler contest. Chris won this trip with a first-place ranking at the state level last spring. While in Kentucky Chris placed in the top 10 while competing against about 30 participants.

Congratulations to Mora High School’s World Languages Department! At this year’s Minnesota Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages and Cultures Workshop, Kay Edberg was named the MN World Languages Teacher of the year. Both Amanda Stenberg and Kay Edberg also won the Department of Excellence Award and S.T.A.R. awards for merits in their field.

ANNA B. KNUDSON Mrs. Anna B. Knudson died on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014 at GracePointe Crossings Gables West in Cambridge. She was 101 years old.

She and her husband, Clarence ffarmed near Coin for many years and rretired to rural Cambridge in 1967. She w was employed for many years in hospittals in Braham, Mora and Cambridge.

SShe took great pleasure in cooking w wonderful meals for family and friends.

SShe and her husband took many trips ttogether, especially to draft horse shows aand horse events.

They were members of Cambridge Lutheran Church since 1968. Before L tthis they were members of the Siloa and Brunswick Lutheran churches.

B She was preceded in death by pare ents, Charles and Julia McGuire; six ssiblings; husband, Clarence Knudson; infant son, Harold D. Knudson and grandson, John Knudson.

She is survived by sons, Clarence Lyle Knudson of Mora and Robert Knudson of Braham; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, greatgreat-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014 at the Cambridge Lutheran Church with Pastor Wally Hed officiating.

Burial was at the Isanti Union Cemetery.

WILLIAM SCHERLE William Scherle of Ogilvie died peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2014. He was 88 years old.

He was born on Aug. 4, 1926 to William and Fredricka Scherle. He was one li of 12 children, growing up in the Bad o Lands of North Dakota during the deL p pression. He attended school in North D Dakota until age 15, when he moved to SSouthern California.

At the age of 16, he joined the Marrine Corps and was an ariel gunner in WWII. He was honored he could serve W tthis great country. After the war he m moved to the Minneapolis area.

He was united in marriage to the lo love of his life, Muriel Johnston on Nov. 222, 1952 and they had nearly 62 wond derful years together. He worked as an engineer for the Milwaukee/Soo Line Railroad for 39 years which he truly enjoyed. He also worked as a mail carrier in the Minneapolis area for 12 years. He and his wife moved to Ogilvie in 1974. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

He loved life and he lived it to the fullest. He enjoyed visiting with people, gardening, working in the woods, playing cards and family gatherings. His sense of humor, smile, and happy disposition will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by wife, Muriel; children, Gail (Joe) Benolken, David (Julie) Scherle, Sandra (Randy) Hoyles, Diane (John) Carroll, Mark (Jennifer) Scherle and Joan (Wally) Johnson; grandchildren, Katie (Dan) Hadenfeldt, Connie (Joel) Keith, Joshua (Stephanie) Hoyles, Jason Hoyles, Rachel Carroll, Amy Carroll, Andrew Scherle, Hannah Scherle and Jill Scherle; siblings, Anna Berg, Fred (Carol) Scherle, Emil (Evelyn) Scherle and John (Hennie) Scherle; five great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews cousins and many friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Mora with Rev. Bob Bohachek officiating. A memorial visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 10 - 11 a.m. at the church. Music will be provided by Marie Grundberg.
