NOV. 10 OGILVIE FOOD SHELF The Ogilvie Food Shelf will begin its 20th year of service in April of 2019. The work of the food shelf depends on the hours of hard work by many dedicated volunteers. The continued support of the Ogilvie community, including Quality Recycling and the Ogilvie Lions Club, enables the food shelf to help many people through some difficult times. The number of services provided peaked in 2014 as many of our community were still caught in problems caused by the recession. Recently many persons have shared with us that some very serious medical issues have made them need the extra food support. The Ogilvie School is currently running the “We Scare Hunger” food drive for the food shelf. For several years, the Ogilvie Food Shelf has collaborated with the Backpack food distribution at the Ogilvie School. The Ogilvie Food
Sponsored by Knights of Columbus Council 5078. In Service to one, In Service to all.

ENTREES
Rolo Pretzels
Ingredients Small pretzels - round Pecan halves Rolo caramels in milk chocolate Directions Heat oven to 350 degrees. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Place pretzels on paper. White Fudge Ingredients 2 cups sugar 3/4 cup regular sour cream (not light) 1/2 cup butter 12 oz. white chips 1 7-oz. jar marshmallow creme 1 cup pecans, chopped
Sweet - Sour Cabbage Rolls This is a swell recipe, the leftovers are better. The crenelated leaves of Savoy cabbage can add an interesting texture and are much easier to remove than other cabbage, they are quite separate and no coring needed. They are smaller and looser so get 16 good Savoy leaves, two heads are better than one. Ingredients 1 large head cabbage OR 2 heads Savoy cabbage Sauce: 1 29 oz can tomato sauce 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/2 cup packed brown sugar 1/4 cup vinegar 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce 1 large onion, chopped, divided Filling: 1 pound lean ground beef 1/2 pound bulk sausage meat 1/2 tsp. marjoram 1/2 tsp. thyme 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. pepper 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce 1/2 cup uncooked quick cooking rice (Minute Rice)
Directions Combine sugar, sour cream and butter in 2 1/2 - 3 qt. pan. Bring to full boil, stirring constantly. Continue boiling 7 minutes over medium heat or use candy thermometer until reaches 234, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Stir in white chips and marshmallow creme until melted. Add nuts and beat until well blended. Pour in buttered pan. Cool at room temperature. Refrigerate, then cut into squares. Enjoy. Carol Leaf
Directions Cut out the core of the cabbage with a small sharp knife to make it easy to remove leaves. Carefully peel off 16 or more leaves and soften them for 5 minutes in boiling water. Drain and cool. Cut away the thickest part of the center rib of each leaf, set aside.
Combine in a saucepan, tomato sauce, sugar, brown sugar, vinegar, 1 tsp. Worcestershire, and half the chopped onion. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally for 5 minutes. Set aside. In a large bowl thoroughly combine the ground beef, sausage, the remaining onion, marjoram, thyme, salt, pepper, 1/2 tsp Worcestershire and rice. Drain leaves again before using. Place a portion of the meat mixture roughly the size of a roll of quarters, at the stem end of each leaf, fold the sides of the leaf over the ends of the meat and roll up. Shape any leftover filling into rolls without cabbage. Preheat oven to 375 degrees Cover the bottom of a 9x13 baking pan with 1/3 of the sauce. Arrange rolls in pan and pour remaining sauce over all. Bake about 1 hour. Makes about 16, serves 6 to 8. Verna Carpenter, Pine City

3. Vandalism prompts shutdown of shooting range in Chengwatana State Forest: The south fork of the Chengwatana State Forest Road will close from Jan. 1 to Sept. 1 in an effort to stop vandalism at the shooting pit. Vandals have plagued the Chengwatana Pit for years, shooting trees and littering the area with spent shells, brass and targets. Local conservation groups and ATV clubs tried to discourage this by beautifying the pit, but vandals attacked those, too. Are you a current print subscriber?
