KEEP AHEAD OF GUM DISEASE What is Gum Disease? Periodontal (gum) disease begins when bacteria produce toxins that irritate the gums. If the plaque is not removed daily through brushing and flossing, gum tissues may break down and become red, tender and likely to bleed. The bacteria and resulting tissue inflammation cause a breakdown of the gum tissue and bone, and eventually teeth become loose, fall out, or need to be removed. Warning Signs of Gum Disease: • Bleeding gums during tooth brushing and flossing • Red, swollen and tender gums • Persistent bad breath or unpleasant taste in mouth • Gums that have receded or pulled away from your teeth
• Loose or separating teeth • Pus between the tooth and gum • A change in your bite Prevention: • Brush your teeth twice a day. Be sure to clean between teeth with floss • Schedule regular dental checkups and cleanings to detect early warning signs of gum disease It’s Never Too Late for a Great Smile Braces are not just for kids. Teeth can be straightened at any age. The process involved in tooth movement is the same for both children and adults. Braces are another way of demonstrating that you care about yourself and your overall health.
Our practice offers complete dental care for every member of the family from kids to seniors.

A guide to hosting a daytime wedding beautiful event and make for a party to remember. Couples are increasingly customizing their weddings to be a reflection of their personal styles. One of the ways couples are customizing their festivities is by moving the wedding to various hours of the day that meet the couple’s needs. A wedding that takes place in the late morning or afternoon may be the perfect fit for some couples. Here’s how to navigate the specifics of a daytime wedding.
Weddings dot the social calendars of millions of people across the globe. The Association for Wedding Professionals International says every year an average of 2.4 million weddings are performed in the United States and approximately 150,000 per year are performed in Canada. Evenings are the most common time of the day to host a wedding, but that does not mean a daytime wedding cannot be a

· Secure accommodations. An early wedding means guests may have to travel from afar the evening before to be able to attend the festivities. Daytime weddings can be complemented by working with a hotel or bed and breakfast to ensure guests will have a place to stay and get ready to arrive at the early wedding in time. · Don’t be afraid to negotiate prices. The wedding resource Bridal Guide says that vendors are typically more amenable to price discounts or offering greater value for daytime weddings. That’s because demand for their services is reduced during the day. Similarly, venues may have more availability during the day than at night, and, as a result, they’re more flexible on prices, especially since brunch foods generally cost less than dinner entrees.
Did you know?
raphers are skilled in any light, many are used to shooting in churches and venues with low lighting. Be sure to see picture samples taken during the daytime to gauge a photographer’s daytime experience and skill level. · Employ color to add dimension. During evening weddings, lighting or candles help set the mood. Those same elements will be ineffective in daylight. Choose bright colors for your decor and flowers to brighten up spaces. · Choose alternative entertainment. Chances are guests are not going to feel as comfortable dancing during daylight hours. Consider other entertainment, such as lawn games, karaoke, or a comedian. A guitarist or pianist may be a nice musical touch. · Plan food accordingly. Just because the wedding is early does not mean the food should be. Guests still will need to eat. If you are only opting for light appetizers and cocktails, be sure to mention this on the invitation so guests can plan ahead and won’t go hungry.
A wedding is a tough time to experience a bad hair day. Clothing styles, time of day and weather all can dictate a wedding hairstyle, but ultimately one of the most important factors in a wedding hairstyle is finding a stylist who understands you and can exercise your vision. A patient, understanding stylist who is open to viewing different photographs and drawing inspiration from various places, as well as running through a few trial styles, can help brides (and grooms) look their best. In fact, trials are a must to ensure that a chosen style will work with your hair texture. If you plan to get your hair colored, professionals recommend doing so about three weeks in advance of the big day so it looks natural and any potential snafus can be remedied beforehand. Your stylist may suggest a light trim prior to the wedding so that the ends are fresh and healthy. And since you’re putting your faith in a qualified stylist, trust their expertise and vision. Keep an open mind to their suggestions. You may fall in love with one of the options you hadn’t considered.
Daytime weddings can be successful with a little tweaking of traditional evening wedding planning.
· Hire the right photographer. Be sure to contract with a photographer who is a pro at handling photos in daylight and natural light. While many photog-

More couples are embracing edgy, adventurous weddings at their receptions. These foods can include items that fit with their specific ethnic cuisines, gourmet comfort foods (think cocktail franks wellington), or foods that fit with their dietary choices, such as organic or vegan options. Work with a caterer to provide a variety of tasty choices.
planning their weddings. Putting an individualized spin on the ceremony and reception can make couples even more excited to tie the knot.
Bold wardrobe choices
Brides and grooms once felt compelled to conform to the trappings of traditional weddings. From uber-romantic vows to pastel colors to the penultimate white tiered cake, various wedding components were long considered must-haves. But modern couples are increasingly expressing their individuality, and even embracing more edgy and adventurous elements, when planning their weddings.
Adventurous locales Vineyards and catering halls can be great places to tie the knot, but couples who like to push the envelope are looking to more adventurous locales to impart their unique spin on their weddings. Sharing vows atop a mountain crest at the end of a favorite hiking trail or on a roller coaster at a theme park that harkens back to a first date are some adventurous places to tie the knot.
Today’s weddings are not what they were just a few years ago. Bold colors, exotic cakes and nontraditional foliage, are just some of the elements modern couples are embracing to set their weddings apart.
Full of flavor
Outside-the-box menus
Cakes don’t have to be white with white buttercream. In fact, couples can make things even more tasty by incorporating favorite flavor combinations into their cakes. For example, a chocolate and caramel filling reminiscent of a candy bar might be something to consider.
Couples may want to break with tradition by offering a wide selection of foods

Brides can put new spins on their gowns by adding color and texture. Sequins, bold embroidery, shorter hemlines, and whatever adventurous fashion style you want to impart can be considered. If white isn’t your thing, that’s okay, too. Yellow and slate gray look great together. Gentlemen can choose to wear a black suit or any combination of color and style they want to make a dramatic impression.

JULIE A. LANG MAY 18, 1967 — JAN. 2, 2020
Julie Ann (Kuehn) Lang, of Ogilvie, died on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020, at home. She was 52 years old. She was born in Coon Rapids on May 18, 1967, to James and Judy M ((Erickson) Kuehn. She lived in Coon Rapids for the first few years before R moving to Ogilvie with her family in m 11970. She attended Ogilvie Schools, ggraduating in 1985. She worked at a few different jobs aafter graduating – Super Valu, FleetGo, Crystal Cabinet Works, InF dustries Incorporated and Bluewater d Yachts. Y She loved being a bus driver for Ogilvie School, driving from Dec. 13, O 11994, until March 31, 2016. She was a very outgoing bus driver and kids from kindergarten through 12th grade enjoyed riding on “Julie’s bus.” She continued to be an important part of the Ogilvie School and was the alumni speaker at the 2017 graduation and 2018 Homecoming at Ogilvie High School. She and her brother, Joel, started Kuehn’s Limousine in 1989. She thoroughly enjoyed being a limo driver and had a lot of fun with everyone she drove around. She loved to travel and went to New York, California, Illinois, Oklahoma, Nevada, Florida, Mexico and a cruise to Alaska. She loved to be on the move. She was a member of St. Kathryn’s Catholic Church, Ogilvie. She was united in marriage to Steven Lang on Sept. 30, 2000. Together they made their home in Ogilvie. She was diagnosed with colon cancer the summer of 2010. Her coworkers (school bus drivers and their families) put on a benefit to help her at this time when she needed it. She was so thankful she wanted to “give back” to the community, so in September of 2012, she helped establish “Kick Cancer to the Curb” which helps people with cancer in Kanabec County. Each year she would help plan their fundraising event in August and other events throughout the year. She was excited to be featured in a SPIRE commercial with Dan Stoltz that aired in December 2018. She was in the local media (Kanabec County Times and KBEK) a lot for receiving donations for Kick Cancer to the Curb, awards presented to Kick Cancer to the Curb, to let others know about the upcoming commercial she was in, and the most recent of “Ogilvie giving back to Julie” as her and her husband’s garage had collapsed after the last winter and members of the community donated and helped put up a new garage for them. She cherished her family and loved everyone around her. She was very loved. She was an inspiration to many. She lived a meaningful, faith-filled life and will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her father, James Kuehn; grandparents, Felix and Hazel Erickson, and Fred and Mette Kuehn; and many aunts and uncles. She is survived by her husband, Steven; mother, Judy Kuehn; fatherin-law and mother-in-law, Art and Shirley Lang; brothers, Joel Kuehn and Jeff (Sheryl) Kuehn; sister, Julene (Joel) Peterson; brothers-in-law, David Lang, Terry Lang, Jim (Janice) Lang and John (Achaung) Lang; sisters-in-law, Ginny (Byron) Anderson, Mary Linn, Sarah (Karl) Barwin, Susan (Josh) Hartman and Cathy (Steve) Porter; as well as many aunts, uncles, precious nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, at St. Kathryn’s Catholic Church in Ogilvie with Father Eugene Plaisted officiating. Music will be by Mary Heins and Jeanne McGrew. Visitation will be from 4:30-8:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, at Ogilvie School with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. led by Rita Clasemann. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at the church. Casket bearers will be Jeramie Peterson, Jason Peterson, Craig Birkaker, Matt Sward, Matt Anderson, Joey Lang, Jeff Lang, Matt Gebhart, Daniel Porter and Greg Gunion. Inurnment will be at St. Kathryn’s Catholic Cemetery on Julie’s birthday, May 18, 2020. Please help in honoring her by wearing her favorite color, yellow, to the visitation and service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family. Arrangements are by Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora. Condolences may be posted at www.aifuneralhome.com
