KANABEC COUNTY

THURSDAY, APRIL 20, 2017

VOL. 134 NO. 16

BY TERRY SALMELA NEWS@MORAMINN.COM

“Initially it was a huge concern,” said Deanna Pomije, Kanabec Soil and Water Conservation District Manager on how the Minnesota Buffer Law would affect farmers and landowners. The preliminary assessment of how far Kanabec County is in compliance with the law has gone well said Pomije.

She said that 73 percent of Kanabec County lands adjacent to public waters are in compliance while 74 percent of Minnesota counties are 60-100 percent compliant with the state’s bipartisan water quality buffer initiative. “We are lucky that a lot of our land adjacent to these waters already has grass and hay. However, landowners need to understand that if it is ever tilled that it will need a buffer.”

107 Park St. S., Mora, MN 55051

The Minnesota Buffer Law which was passed in 2015 and amended in 2016 requires landowners with land adjacent to public waters or lakes to have a 50-foot vegetative buffer and those adjacent to a public drainage ditch to have a 16 1/2 foot vegetative buffer for better water quality. Pomije said that 125 letters were sent to Kanabec County

Call Gopher State One-Call when you plan a project! Northwest Gas has natural gas pipelines in the Ogilvie/Mora area. Please call at least 48 hours before you plan to begin any machine-assisted excavating. This includes stump grinding, topsoil stripping or any other operation where power equipment is used, regardless of digging depth. Pipelines may not be where you expect! Pipeline marking signs do not indicate a pipeline’s exact location and never can you be sure of the depth of a pipeline. A pipeline may change direction and depth rapidly in a very short distance. The only safe method of locating a pipeline is by calling Gopher State One-Call and having a Northwest employee locate it for you. After you contact Gopher State One-Call a Northwest employee will visit your work site and mark the location of our pipeline for you at no charge. If your plans change after the pipeline is marked, call Gopher State One-Call again. Do not try to guess our pipeline’s location from previous markings or it’s depth from a previous measurement.

SNG Services Gunsmithing & Tool Sharpening

SNG Services SNG Services is a gunsmith service, licensed firearms dealer, and full-service tool sharpening shop located just south of Mora, Minnesota. Owned and operated by Kanabec County resident Shawn Paul, SNG Services is a local company with a nationwide footprint.

• Repair and customization of firearms • Sale of new and used firearms • Consignment sales

One of a few full-time gunsmiths in Minnesota, Paul has worked in gunsmithing since the 1980s. He likens the workings of a firearm to those of a vehicle. You bring your car to a professional mechanic when the transmission needs to be rebuilt, he says; and when a firearm needs service or repair, you should seek out the same level of care and expertise. As an experienced firearms mechanic with more than 30 years’ experience, Paul provides a level of excellence that can’t be found many other places.

• Insurance appraisals • Sporting goods • Ammo sales • Hunting equipment and accessories

Paul has a nationwide reputation, and is often consulted by firearms professionals across the country to fix and solve problems. He raised his family in the Mora area, however, and is committed to serving the community long-term. He treats customers as friends, and shows the same care for their firearms that he does for his own. Paul values his reputation and guarantees his work, believing that “if it can’t be done right it shouldn’t be done at all.”

• Large in-shop inventory • Firearms transfers • Pre- and post-season cleanings and safety checks

SNG Services also provides tool-sharpening services. From drill bits to lawnmower blades to scissors and knives, Paul can hone just about anything with a blade. “I can sharpen everything but your wit!” he laughs.

• Full line of sharpening services for home & commercial users

If you own a gun that hasn’t been fired in a while or needs repair, bring it to SNG Services for a full cleaning, inspection, and test fire.

• All work guaranteed

WINDSHIELD DAMAGED?

Rachel did a fantastic job helping us change our car insurance. She explained the process and took care of everything, including notifying our previous insurance company. Rachel’s attention to detail and patience showed her professionalism. We felt very confident with our decision when we left her office. It was also very nice to know we are saving over $700.00 a year. Thank you so much, Rachel.
