Mora Auto Service is a family-run auto repair and towing center located on Union Street in Mora. A certified NAPA Auto Care Center, the shop specializes in diagnostic and repair work for domestic and European vehicles including diesel engines. Dave and Tonya Peterson opened Mora Auto Service on March 5, 2012. “Tonya and I decided to make a job for ourselves,” Dave recalled. “A friend of ours was a brand-new rookie mechanic, who helped with the business for the first several months. We bought him out, and he moved on to a dealership. He helped the business get started, and we helped him get a start too.” “When we first started, it was just Dave and me,” Tonya said. “I’d go out and help him, and picked up a wrench. I learned to do oil changes, disc brakes, and hub assemblies.” “Tonya handles the business end, and deals more and more with the customers,” Dave added. “But she can step in and do quite a bit of my job.” Dave started his automotive training at Dunwoody Institute. “Through the years I saw Tonya, my mom, a classmate, and other people get taken advantage of with auto repairs. This gave me the standards I have today. Everyone deserves to be educated about what’s being done with their vehicle. We complete an inspection and an estimate first, then we don’t start any work until the customer approves it. If you don’t understand what’s going on, you shouldn’t be expected to pay for it.” Dave and Tonya’s family values are part of their business approach. “We’re building the business on Christian morals and integrity,” Dave explained. “We make sure things are right between us and the customers. And we’re kid-friendly. In the spring I’m hoping to put in a playground: a place for kids to play, and for parents to wait while their car is being repaired.” “We do our work well. We have one of the area’s lowest rates of customers coming back to have work redone. I pride myself on that. We know our work is done right.”

Menagerie of Renowned Artists

M.O.M.’s Place Antiques, Collectibles Home Decór & More

Over 120 Local Artists & Crafters Made Of MORA (Menagerie Of Renowned Artists) is an arts and crafts shop located in downtown Mora. It features unique handcrafted gifts, home and cabin decor, glassware, pottery, art, woodworking, jewelry, textiles, and sundries – all produced by local artisans. Co-owner Jody Anderson came up with the “Menagerie Of Renowned Artists” acronym, which truly epitomizes the spirit of the shop. “We try to stay local as much as we can,” she said. “Made Of MORA carries items created within 50 miles of Mora. We started out with 12 consigners, and now have more than a120.” Located within Made Of MORA is M.O.M.’s Place (Made Of MORA’s Place), a specialty shop offering collectables, antiques, unique and hard-to-find items, Swedish treats, sewing supplies, notions, furniture, and vintage clothing. M.O.M.’s Place also offers sewing machine repair, handmade greeting cards, and gift certificates. Jody and husband Michael opened the business in early 2009 in an empty building that previously had housed a bicycle shop. Fears that the space would be too big for their needs were soon unfounded, and word got around about their unique array of merchandise. Jody and Michael continue to find new ways to meet their customers’ needs. “We have visitors year-round from all over the world, including during the Mora Classic Series events.” said Jody. “And as of a year ago, we are affiliates of the K-Bid online auction service. Michael is a licensed and bonded auctioneer.” Jody and Michael continue to innovate: soon adding to the mix a selection of gourmet chocolates, imported Swedish sweets, by-the-scoop ice cream, and old- fashioned “penny” candy. For a unique and memorable shopping experience, and an assortment of handpicked treasures and handcrafted gifts, visit Made of MORA/ M.O.M’s Place.

Area’s Largest Assortment of Fresh Flowers

320-679-4216 121 S. Union St, Mora Shopping at Dandelion Floral and Gifts is more than just shopping. It is an experience. Owner Nancy Helmbrecht’s goal is to make you feel welcome and enjoy your visit. When you first step into Dandelion Floral and Gifts, your senses are met with soothing music and the sweet smell of hundreds of bright flowers in the air. The walls and shelves are filled with colorful displays, vibrant arrangements and sparkling gifts—but nothing in the store compares to warmth of the staff that welcome you. They will let you browse or can help you pick the perfect gift or floral arrangement whether you are welcoming a new baby to the world, expressing sympathy, wishing someone well or congratulating a new couple. Preparing for a wedding can be particularly stressful to brides, said Nancy, but her staff is positively fantastic when it comes to offering a wide variety of products, knowledge and cost-effective solutions that make wedding planning easier. “So many brides come in with expensive ideas and we work with them to take those

ideas and make them affordable. We are driven to make their wants, desires and dreams come true,” she said. Many brides planning a wedding in the area sometimes think it has to feel rural. But that’s not the case. Dandelion Floral has all the items for rent to give your wedding or event a formal boost. Dandelion Floral offers vases, candelabras, unity candle holders and a large variety of other items for rent or sale to formalize a wedding, banquet or even a romantic dinner for two. Nancy and her staff work closely with customers to give them that formal feel without being in the big city. Nancy said she can’t count how many times customers have come to her shop looking for something specific after checking store after store in city after city only to find it at Dandelion Floral. “Shop local first,” she advised. Dandelion Floral also carries unique outdoor or Minnesota themed gifts and a special Scandinavian heritage section that includes items like books, mugs, cards and Dala horses. Dandelion Floral is sure to have exactly what you need for whatever the occasion or event you have in your life.

SNG Services Gunsmithing & Tool Sharpening SNG Services is a gunsmith service, licensed firearms dealer, and full-service tool sharpening shop located just south of Mora, Minnesota. Owned and operated by Kanabec County resident Shawn Paul, SNG Services is a local company with a nationwide footprint. One of a few full-time gunsmiths in Minnesota, Paul has worked in gunsmithing since the 1980s. He likens the workings of a firearm to those of a vehicle. You bring your car to a professional mechanic when the transmission needs to be rebuilt, he says; and when a firearm needs service or repair, you should seek out the same level of care and expertise. As an experienced firearms mechanic with 30 years’ experience, Paul provides a level of excellence that can’t be found many other places. Paul has a nationwide reputation, and is often consulted by firearms professionals across the country to fix and solve problems. He raised his family in the Mora area, however, and is committed to serving the community long-term. “Our mission is to enhance the life of those we serve.” Assisted Living Long Term Care & Rehab Unit St. Clare Living Community of Mora is a nonprofit, faith-based provider of skilled nursing care and therapy services. Our mission is to witness to God’s love by providing compassionate, quality care with special concern for the underserved and those in need. Our motto is to enhance the lives of those we serve. Part of the Benedictine Health System, we offer comprehensive medical and rehabilitative services for both the long-term resident looking to make this a home, as well as shorter-stay residents who need additional services after a recent hospital stay or illness. Every effort is made by staff to help residents maintain their independence while living in a secure facility where help is available when needed. Discharge planning begins upon the day of admission, and 85 percent of those admitted are discharged back to their homes. St. Clare’s Assisted Living is a 35 unit facility, staffed 24 hours a day with an RN and LPN on staff Mondays through Fridays. Apartments are one- and two-bedroom units, fully equipped with a full kitchen, a living/dining area, and a bathroom. Each apartment has its own patio and gardening area. Services include medication management, showering assistance, help arranging and accessing appointments, a monthly wellness clinic, weekly lab draws, close working relationships with physicians, daily activities, weekly shopping trips, and monthly birthday celebrations. St. Clare’s Skilled Nursing Services offer 57 beds in the long-term care unit, and 14 beds in the short-stay rehab unit. Patients recovering from surgery or illness receive services that include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and skilled nursing care. Private rooms include a bathroom and shower, and provide a comfortable alternative to a traditional nursing home. Constantly working on quality improvement, St. Clare Living Community recently earned a fivestar superior rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. CMS is a federal agency that monitors the quality of services delivered in Medicare- and Medicaid-certified long-term care facilities. St. Clare’s administrator and CEO Jack L’Heureux remarked, “I cannot be more proud of my staff. They work very hard to deliver quality and compassionate care to our residents.” As a nonprofit, faith-based organization, St. Clare’s core values speak to our mission of enhancing the lives of those we serve. These core values are: Hospitality, Stewardship, Respect, and Justice. While we have served our local community faithfully for 45 years, as a nonprofit facility we also rely upon the community for support through the St. Clare Living Community Foundation. The Foundation is focused on renewing, reinvesting, and re-establishing our place in the community. To learn more about the Foundation, please contact director Diane Kiel at 320-679-8322.

Tall to Small Dog Grooming

Happiness is a Furry, Clean Friend Bobbie Breheim, 14 years experience

W

ith over 14 years of experience, Bobbie Breheim of Tall to Small Dog Grooming brings a level of passion and experience to her work that is difficult to match in the Mora community. She started grooming animals at a young age, was trained as an apprentice at PetSmart in St. Paul shortly after high school and has been grooming dogs ever since.

With over five years serving the Mora community, Bobbie has established her business through affordable pricing and a flexible schedule; being open six days a week and providing her service on nights and weekends. Clients find convenience and comfort in the fact that Tall to Small Dog Grooming is located in the same building as East Central Veterinarians; especially when servicing older dogs. Bobbie’s greatest asset however is her 14 years of experience. She says, “If you’re gonna pick a dog groomer, make sure they have experience with a lot of dogs.” Looking to the fall, Tall to Small Dog Grooming will begin offering more expansive packages which include services like dental hygiene, nail painting and even decorations like ribbons and bows in addition to their normal services. Next time you’re taking your dog in for a regular checkup at the vet, don’t forget to make a grooming appointment with Tall to Small Dog Grooming.

Welcoming All Breeds of Dogs! 320-679-6869 • 888-679-6869 2004 Mahogany St, Suite B, Mora, MN 55051

ADVERTISER, DECEMBER 28, 2014 - 27

0 V 0 e 2 h icles r e v O Choose From ! to Rube’s Auto of Mora has a saying; ‘If we don’t have it, we can find it for you.” This can-do attitude has guided owner Tyler Rubin since he started his career in the auto industry many years ago. Tyler started off at Rochester Community and Technical College where he studied auto mechanics. He went right to work after graduation at a GM/Subaru dealership where he spent 3 years as a GM mechanic and four years as a Subaru mechanic. From there he went on to sell Cornwell Tools for four years before opening his own repair shop in Grand Meadow, Minn. in 2008. He quickly expanded from repairing vehicles to buying and selling vehicles and Rubes Auto was born. A family man who has been married for nine years and has four children, Tyler and his wife purchased a cabin on Knife Lake three years ago and began to dream of having a used car lot to serve East Central Minnesota. After a short stint in Cambridge, Rubes’ Mora branch was opened in February 2013. Rubes Auto focuses their inventory on dealer trades rather than auction finds; namely cars that have been brought in on trade at respected dealerships. This means that many of the cars on his lot have had a single owner and have been driven by customers who are loyal to their local dealerships. One of the chief advantages to dealing with Rubes Auto is the variety and the quantity of vehicles they have to choose from. Rubes is the place to go if you need a used car. With 100 plus cars at their Mora location and 100 plus cars at their Grand Meadow location and a vast network in the auto industry; Rubes can truly live up to their slogan “if we don’t have it, we can find it for you.” Rubes’ inventory ranges from big diesel trucks to Toyota Priuses, and everything in between. Economy customers looking for something in the $2000 - $3000 range will find plenty to choose from, as will those looking to make a more substantial investment in their family’s vehicles. Their showroom also features a handful of motorcycles and classic cars. With a history as an auto mechanic, you can trust that Tyler and his staff will be able to speak intelligently about the condition of their used vehicles and stand behind what they sell. Rubes offers financing options from over 100 banks and works with customers to find financing solutions that work for them. Other services offered include 24-hour towing, tires, brakes, computer diagnostics, engine, A/C and transmission work. Rubes Auto takes pride in hiring qualified local staff and appreciates the loyalty to local businesses found in Mora. Visit RubesAutoMora.com or stop in to their lot to see the wide variety of used vehicles offered by Rubes Auto Mora.
