The Ann Lake Watershed Alliance would like to extend our gratitude to those businesses who so generously provided gifts of merchandise, cash and services to our 51st annual Ice Fishing Contest held on January 26th, 2019. Because of your generosity, we were able to give away over 90 door prizes worth $35 or more each. Thanks to you and the contestants, it was a great success! We also want to thank all the members and friends of the Ann Lake Watershed Alliance who worked so hard to promote this event! We couldn’t do it year after year without you. We had a cold breezy day so the contest was held indoors at the Pink Diamond Bar and Grill so the largest fish prizes were drawn from ticket stubs. The winners were Kerry Sady first place, Steve Rutherford second place and Katie Draper third place. The Grand Prize Raffle winners were: Jesse Smith – $300 cash donated by the Ogilvie Lions Club, Calleb Christenson - $200 in Amazon Gift Cards donated by the North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters and Andy VanSomeren - $100 in Amazon Gift Cards donated by the North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters.

How to create a wedding day schedule
Wedding days can be hectic. In fact, many couples note after tying the knot that their wedding days were so busy that the ceremonies and receptions were over before they knew it.
establish a framework for their wedding day schedule by working back from the ceremony. Once the ceremony time is set, couples who plan to take photos before their ceremonies can then work with their photographers to determine how much time they will need for photos and where they want to take the photos. Bridal parties may need transportation to the photo session, so determining when and where to take photos before the ceremony gives couples an idea of when to arrange for pickup.
Creating a wedding day schedule can seem like a daunting task. Couples tend to have lots of things to do before saying “I do,” and organizing everything so ceremonies begin on time can seem as puzzling as a brain teaser. But certain scheduling strategies can help couples ensure they look their best and make it to the altar on time.
· Confirm when the wedding venue is open to the wedding party. Before booking hair and makeup appointments, couples should confirm when they will be able to access their wedding venue. Brides may want to get their hair and makeup done at the ceremony sight, but that may only be possible if the venue opens early for the wedding party. If it does not, then brides must account for transportation time to the ceremony sight when making their wedding day schedules.
· Start with the ceremony. Couples can
· Determine how much time is needed
for hair and makeup. Weddings that feature large bridal parties will require more time for hair and makeup than ceremonies with small bridal parties. Grooms and groomsmen often take care of their own hair, though some grooms might want to schedule hot shaves for themselves and their groomsmen. Grooms should ask groomsmen if they want a hot shave and then work with their barbers to determine how much time it will take to tend to all participants. Brides with large bridal parties may need to book more than two hair and makeup artists so everyone can get done on time. Wedding hair and makeup sessions can last several hours for large bridal parties, so brides should schedule their sessions early if their parties are big. · Make lunch arrangements. Some couples choose to tie the knot and host their receptions at the same venue. In such instances, if brides are getting their hair and makeup done at the venue, ask the venue representative if lunch can be provided to the bridal party. Some venues may
include small lunch buffets in their reception costs, while others might charge extra. Confirm the availability and costs, and if it’s unavailable or too expensive, then arrange for lunch to be delivered. Either way, couples should not skip lunch, as it may be their only chance to eat until after the ceremony. · Distribute your schedule to one another and the bridal party. Once the wedding day schedule has been devised, couples should share it with each other and their wedding parties. Grooms’ wedding day to-do lists might not be as extensive as brides’, but grooms should still be kept in the loop regarding the schedule so they can help if anyone has questions or if something goes awry. Sharing the schedule with the wedding party decreases the chances of someone being late or missing an appointment. Couples can solve the riddle of scheduling their wedding days by working backward and asking their vendors to cooperate in laying out the day’s events.
Did you know? In adherence to traditional wedding wardrobes, brides wear white and veils to complete their ensembles. While many people may view veils as a symbol of purity and chastity, various sources indicate veils had a
more prominent purpose. Halic magazine indicates that veils first became popular in ancient Roman times, when brides were covered head-totoe in a red sheet called a flammeum. The sheet was intended to scare off
any evil spirits that might ruin the wedding. Veils eventually replaced the flammeum to disguise the bride from those naughty spirits. Veils also were used to hide brides’ faces from grooms in an era of arranged marriag-
es when grooms had never seen their brides before their wedding days. Thankfully, today’s veils are more about fashion than function.

Because a marriage proposal is such a memorable moment in a couples’ life together, those doing the proposing often go to great lengths to ensure things go smoothly. While there is no proposal playbook, these guidelines can assist those ready to take the leap. • Add a personal touch. It’s easy to get caught up in making a marriage proposal a spectacle or something worthy of a social media post. But taking a sweetheart back to a special place that recalls a significant moment can set the backdrop for a memorable proposal. Incorporating the place you first met or a special song into the proposal can make it that much more personal and meaningful. • Embrace the old fashioned. It may be romantic to step back in time and follow the traditions of yesteryear. Show respect to future in-laws by speaking
to them about intentions to propose and ask for their blessings. Get down on bended knee when asking for a sweetheart’s hand. Such gestures add up to meaningful expressions of love. • Consider timing. A person may be so excited to propose that he or she fails to consider how the other person in the relationship is feeling. If that person is overwhelmed by work projects or stressed about upcoming events, consider waiting to propose at a more relaxed time. • Enlist help from others. It can be a challenge to keep your excitement hidden while collecting information about a future spouse’s likes and dislikes. Ask friends and close family members to be your accomplices so that information can be gathered without generating suspicion. This can be especially helpful when finding the perfect ring. • Keep it simple. The more complex a proposal, the more opportunities for things to go wrong. Simplic-
ity, even if it means keeping the proposal to yourself until the question has been popped, can make for an extra special moment. Marriage proposals happen every day. With humor, confidence and a heart full of love, popping the question can be a success.
Did you know? Since Ancient Roman times, June has been a popular month for couples to tie the knot. The month’s namesake, the goddess Juno, was said to be the protector of women in every aspect, but most notably in regard to marriage and childbearing.

Therefore, it made sense to get married and take the first step toward creating a family in June. For practical reasons, June also has been a prime month for marriage because the month is neither especially hot nor especially cold in many areas of the world. While dressed in formalwear - whether having an outdoor wedding or an indoor one - no one wants to be overheated or uncomfortably cold.
ding season. Warmer-than-average temperatures in autumn over the last few years as well as a dazzling display of natural color help make the fall a popular time for nuptials.
While June is still a popular month to get married, a wedding resource indicates that autumn, in particular the months of September and October, has overtaken summer as the most popular wed-

2. Hero Marine receives national award: A Pine City native was one of five members in the entire United States military honored with the George Van Cleave USO Military Leadership Award in 2018. United States Marine Corps Staff Sergeant Jeffrey Belko graduated from Pine City High School in 2004, and joined the Marine Corps in 2007. On Sept. 19, 2018, Belko was on duty at the Marine barracks building in Washington D.C. when he received word that a fire had broken out at a nearby public housing complex for senior citizens. He rushed to the scene, and while firefighters battled the blaze he went inside the building, knocking on doors, helping elderly residents out of their beds and carrying them down four flights of stairs. 3. Crashes on I-35 reported: A woman was injured in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 35 at Hillside Avenue on Friday, Jan. 11. In a separate incident, four vehicles were involved in a crash on I-35 on Saturday, Jan. 12 near Sandstone, though only one driver – a 16-year-old male – was reported injured.
