Women who experience weight gain during midlife may be quick to credit such gain on menopause. However, other factors can contribute to weight gain during this period in a woman’s life. Aging inﬂicts changes in the body, insulin resistance can be one of them. Insulin resistance results in cells that stop responding to insulin like they are supposed to. As a result of this resistance, the pancreas may produce even more insulin to bring blood sugar levels down. Excessive levels of insulin are then in the blood. The more insulin present, the more the body may hold on to fats. This can contribute to weight gain and compromise weight loss eﬀorts. Protect yourself. Wear protective clothing, gloves and goggles. Do not smoke. Do not wear contact lenses if handling solvents. Do not expose yourself to toxic chemicals if pregnant. Work in a well-ventilated area. Avoid breathing fumes. Keep children and pets away.

Bring Materials in original containers. If original container is not available, clearly mark on your container its present contents. Do not mix different or unknown wastes in the same container!

Pack Carefully. Place containers in a cardboard box lined with plastic. Pack them in an upright position. Tighten all lids before transporting. If container is leaking, pack in a larger leak-free container; soak up leakage with kitty litter.

Transport. Place boxes in car trunk. If you must transport inside the car, keep the car ventilated, and place combustibles out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources.

Flu puts Pine City man in a fight for his life: Pine City’s Nick Fulweiler went from sick to desperately ill within the space of a few days this winter. He then spent three weeks in a coma as doctors fought to save him, as his family wondered if he would ever return home. And the disease that caused all this? The flu. Between Oct. 1, 2018, and March 30, 2019, the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that there were more than 450,000 hospitalizations and 30,000 deaths nationwide due to influenza. 2. Root sentenced to 30 years for murder: Patrick James Root was sentenced on April 3 to 367 months in prison for the murder of 22-yearold Timothy Hughes in the Pine Terrace Mobile Home Park in Pine City on Aug. 4, 2017. Root pled guilty to second-degree murder on Feb. 22. Though 17 at the time of the shooting, he was charged as an adult, and has spent the last year and a half in Pine County Jail.

HAROLD R. BJORKLUND Harold Raymond Bjorklund died and was quietly called home on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at Grand Village Nursing Home, Grand Rapids. He was 92 years old. He served in the U.S. Army in W WWII and spent time in Okinawa, tthe Philippines and Japan during that ttime. He spent the majority of his ccareer with Gamble-Skogmo, Inc., m managing Gamble stores in Wisconsin, M Minnesota, Iowa, Colorado and South D Dakota. He owned the Gamble store in ddowntown Grand Rapids from 1975 to 11983, then finished his career selling aautomobiles for Jones/Swanson Motors iin Grand Rapids. He loved the Lord and served in m many churches in leadership roles. H He also loved his family dearly and eenjoyed spending time with them oon many Minnesota lakes and in the m mountains throughout the west. He had a strong tenor voice and sang in many church choirs and enjoyed performing karaoke as well. He and his wife had a lake home near Mora, and spent many winters in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas during their retirement years. He was born to Rev. Victor T. Bjorklund and Olive A. (Johnson) Bjorklund on July 24, 1926, in Minneapolis. He loved many and was loved by many. He will be missed, but family is rejoicing that he is home now with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Arlene V. (Nelson) Bjorklund, Grand Rapids; children Craig (Barbara) Bjorklund of Dayton, Ohio, Sandra (Brian) Harling of Bovey, and Bradley (Sharon) Bjorklund, of Grand Rapids. He also has nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Harold’s life at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at the Grand Rapids Alliance Church. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. and memorial service to follow. Memorials will be donated to the American Cancer Society in honor of Harold.

PUBLIC HEARING POMROY TOWNSHIP KANABEC COUNTY, MINNESOTA Resolution No.2019-003 RESOLUTION ISSUING AN ORDER PROVIDING THE INITIAL DESCRIPTION AND SETTING A HEARING DATE REGARDING THE ALTERATION OF 290TH AVENUE AND 310TH AVENUE WHEREAS, the town board of supervisors (â&#x20AC;&#x153;Town Boardâ&#x20AC;?) of Pomroy Township, Kanabec County, Minnesota (â&#x20AC;&#x153;Townâ&#x20AC;?) were authorized by a vote of the Town electors at the Townâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s annual meeting on March 12, 2019, pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, section 164.06, subdivision 1 to undertake the Minnesota Statutes, section 164.07 procedures to alter portions of 290th Avenue and 310th Avenue (â&#x20AC;&#x153;Roadsâ&#x20AC;?); WHEREAS, the Town submitted a request to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (â&#x20AC;&#x153;DNRâ&#x20AC;?) and the State of Minnesota (â&#x20AC;&#x153;Stateâ&#x20AC;?) for State Park Road Account grants for two road projects in the Town, specifically the paving and improvement of (1) 290th Avenue from Pomroy Beach Drive to Rainbow Street and (2) 310th Avenue from Uniform Street to Velvet Street, as depicted on the attached Exhibit A, said exhibit being made part of this Order; WHEREAS, the request seeks funds to pave and improve 290th Avenue and 310th Avenue, to improve recreational opportunities for the public, and specifically to improve access to Pomroy Lake and property owned by the State that is part of the State wildlife management program; WHEREAS, in addition to funds from the State, Kanabec County (â&#x20AC;&#x153;Countyâ&#x20AC;?) confirmed that if the projects were selected for funding from the State, the County would support the Town through project development and construction; WHEREAS, the County prepared project plans and submitted the plans to the State, but in order to complete the application, the portions of 290th Avenue and 310th Avenue depicted in Exhibit A must be altered in order to comply with the Stateâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s road specifications for the projects, which includes the establishment of a 66 foot right-of-way, and the roads must be recorded with the County; WHEREAS, the hearing will be conducted in accordance with the procedures set out in Minnesota Statutes, section 164.07, subdivisions 2 through 13; WHEREAS, Minnesota Statutes, section 164.07, subdivision 2 requires the Town Board to make an order describing as nearly as practicable the road to be altered, describing the several tracts of land through which the Roads pass, and fixing a time and place when and where the Town Board will meet and act upon the proposed alteration of the Roads; and WHEREAS, the owners of property adjacent to the Roads and who are affected by this proposed alteration are listed in Exhibit B (â&#x20AC;&#x153;Affected Ownersâ&#x20AC;?), said exhibit being made part of this order. NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY ORDERED that: 1.The Town Board shall conduct an inspection of 290th Avenue at 4 p.m. on May 9, 2019, commencing at the intersection of Rainbow Street and 290th Avenue. The Town Board shall conduct an inspection of 310th Avenue at 5 p.m. on May 9, 2019, commencing at the intersection of Uniform Street and 310th Avenue. Interested persons are welcome to attend the inspections. 2.The Town Board shall conduct a hearing at 7 p.m. on May 9, 2019 at the Pomroy Town Hall, 3047 320th Avenue, Brook Park, MN 55007 for the purpose of hearing from the public, considering, and acting on the proposed alteration of the Roads as shown in Exhibit A. Interested parties are welcome to attend the public hearing. 3.The Town Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to do each of the following: (a)Provide the Affected Owners a copy of this Order at least ten days before the hearing. (b)Post notice of the hearing at the Townâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s usual posting place(s) at least 10 days before the date of the hearing; and (c)Publish notice of the hearing once in the Townâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s official newspaper so it appears at least 10 days before the date of the hearing. NOTICE OF RIGHT TO APPEAL The Affected Owners have a right of appeal under Minnesota Statutes, section 164.07, subdivision 7 to seek judicial review of damages if the Town Board approves the alteration of the Roads as described above.
