There will be various instrumental numbers, dance demonstrations and vocal solos/duets as well as art make and take projects and math make and takes.

MARCH 9 EMPTY BOWL March is Food Share month and as a fundraiser the Braham Area Food Shelf will be hosting an Empty Bowl event from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Braham Event Center.

Students at the high school have made clay bowls which diners may choose from for a donation to the food shelf. Hot soup and bread for dipping will be served in another bowl.

Musical entertainment will be presented by students from both schools during the event.

Alec John Lakedon Jr. Jr of Mora died at his home on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was 64 years old.

He was born Nov. 30, 1952, to Alec and Lily Lakedon in Crookston.

His family moved from Fertile to the Iron Range where he attended Hibbing High School and graduated in 1971.

Shortly after graduation he was drafted and enrolled in the U.S. Navy where he served for eight years.

He was employed at Milltronics as an electronic specialist for over 34 years.

He was united in marriage to Joan Hengel in 1994 and they lived in St. Louis Park. In 2012, they retired to Mora.

His hobbies included building and flying kites and drones, fishing, long walks, weight lift ing and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by father, Alec John Sr. and dog, “Sweetie Pie.” He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Joan; children, Angela (Jeff Hinrichs) Lakedon of Minneapolis and Daniel (Kaziah) Lakedon of Braham; mother, Lily; stepdad, George Concant of Kelly Lake; grandchildren, Asher and Annabelle; two brothers; five sisters and many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and good friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at Immanuel Lutheran Church (2088 MN-70, Mora, MN 55051) at 11 a.m. with a visitation at 10 a.m.

Memorial preferred to the family.

Arrangements were made through Cremation Society of MN, cremationsocietyofmn.com.

Assistant Classroom Teachers are responsible for participating in Program recruitment activities, integrating Program Service Areas into lesson plans, assisting to ensure enrolled children meet screening and assessment requirements, participating in parent/teacher conferences, maintaining classroom attendance and documenting family case notes. This position works closely within a team requiring submission of lesson plans, attending meetings and working with Service Area staff to assist families with resources. Position requires at a minimum a Preschool CDA. Preferred education includes an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or an Associate’s degree in a related field and coursework equivalent to a major relating to Early Childhood Education with experience teaching preschool aged children may be considered. A Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education, or a Bachelor’s or advanced degree and course work equivalent to a major relating to Early Childhood Education with experience teaching pre-school aged children. Must have experience working with preschoolers and be willing to work with parents and children in classroom settings, be sensitive to the lifestyles and needs of low-income clientele, and must be a team player.

This is a full time position with competitive salary and full benefits. Our benefit package offers health, dental, life insurance, retirement with 5% match, vacation and sick leave, and 12 paid holidays per year. Work mileage reimbursement is offered at the current government rate.

Chad Hopkins, an employee of The Diesel Shop, was recently hospitalized to undergo extensive spinal surgery. They removed three vertebrae to remove a fluid sac, then replaced the vertebrae.

Thankfully he made it through surgery without paralysis, however his road to recovery will be very long. Chad is married and has four children and so far has been denied any disability benefits and the bills are piling up.
