The family of Dorothy Terpstra wishes to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation for the many thoughts and prayers shown to us over the past months. Our wife and Mom received wonderful care from Kanabec County Home Health (thank you Jeff and Dot) prior to moving to the St Clare’s Living Community where many relationships were built while receiving excellent care. She frequently said “If I can’t be at home, this is a good place to be.”

We would also like to thank St. Croix Hospice for the exceptional care and comfort they provided over the last nine months. A special bond was formed with Sharon, but, huge thanks also go to Todd, Lori, Hannah, Kate, and Deb. As a family we experienced a connection with both the St. Clare and St. Croix staff and caregivers. They didn’t just do their job, they walked along side us, for which we are eternally grateful.

Thank you to Akkerman-Ingebrand Funeral home for guiding us through the process with compassion, patience and efficiency. Thank you, Mike, for making my wife and our Mom “look good” just as she had asked you.

The last months have been an extra blessing of time with Dorothy – wife, Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma and we as her family extend our deepest thanks to all who have visited, prayed, supported and comforted both her and us along the way. SHIRLEY NEITZEL Shirley Ann Neitzel, of Mora died on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at FirstLight Health Systems. She was 86 years old.

There will be a memorial service held on Monday, July 25 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brunswick.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 24 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Akkerman-Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

DONALD D. HALE Donald Dean Hale of Mora died on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at First Light Health System in Mora. He was 73 years old.

He was born on Feb. 12, 1943, in C Cedar Rapids, Iowa to William and E Evelyn (Shoemaker) Hale. He grew u up in Iowa and attended school near C Cedar Rapids.

He worked several jobs over the yyears and most recently at Grand Cassino in Hinckley as an environmental ttechnician. While working at the ccasino he met fellow employee, Charis Hershey in 2000 and they have been H ttogether ever since.

He enjoyed fishing, boating, bowliing and especially loved animals. He ttook care of many stray animals over tthe years and found good homes for them. He even rescued a group of baby chicks that were abandoned at the dump. He was a wonderful story teller and had many good stories over the years.

He was preceded in death by his infant twin brother; father in 1978; mother in 1994; brother, Dennis in 2010, and daughter, Shelly Hale in 2014 He is survived by his fiancée forever, Charis Hershey of Mora; children, Richard Hale of Mora, Cathy (Danny) Satter of Pine City, Chuck (Erica) Hale of Sandstone and Robert (Lisa) Hershey of St. Cloud; grandchildren, Mckayla Smith, Chelsea Etter and Mason Hershey; stepsons, Dale (Jennifer) Teter and family of Coon Rapids and James Teter and family of Mora; brothers, David (Donna) Shoemaker of Spokane, Washington and Bob (Dona); sister, Ruth (Arnie) Juhl of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; extended family, Sharon Starlet of Ramsey, Tina (Chris) Christenson of Mora, Aaron, Austin and Haley; his furry friends, Foxy, SaraLee and Alley, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2016, with a service at 6:30 p.m. at Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home in Cambridge.

JULY 29  31 LEGACY FARM SHEEPDOG TRIAL The third annual Legacy Farm Sheepdog Trial will take place beginning at 6:30 a.m. daily. Assisted Living Long Term Care & Rehab Unit St. Clare Living Community of Mora is a nonprofit, faith-based provider of skilled nursing care and therapy services. Our mission is to witness to God’s love by providing compassionate, quality care with special concern for the underserved and those in need. Our motto is to enhance the lives of those we serve.

Part of the Benedictine Health System, we offer comprehensive medical and rehabilitative services for both the long-term resident looking to make this a home, as well as shorter-stay residents who need additional services after a recent hospital stay or illness. Every effort is made by staff to help residents maintain their independence while living in a secure facility where help is available when needed. Discharge planning begins upon the day of admission, and 85 percent of those admitted are discharged back to their homes.

St. Clare’s Assisted Living is a 35 unit facility, staffed 24 hours a day with an RN and LPN on staff Mondays through Fridays. Apartments are one- and two-bedroom units, fully equipped with a full kitchen, a living/dining area, and a bathroom. Each apartment has its own patio and gardening area. Services include medication management, showering assistance, help arranging and accessing appointments, a monthly wellness clinic, weekly lab draws, close working relationships with physicians, daily activities, weekly shopping trips, and monthly birthday celebrations.

St. Clare’s Skilled Nursing Services offer 57 beds in the long-term care unit, and 14 beds in the short-stay rehab unit. Patients recovering from surgery or illness receive services that include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and skilled nursing care. Private rooms include a bathroom and shower, and provide a comfortable alternative to a traditional nursing home.

Constantly working on quality improvement, St. Clare Living Community recently earned a fivestar superior rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. CMS is a federal agency that monitors the quality of services delivered in Medicare- and Medicaid-certified long-term care facilities. St. Clare’s administrator and CEO Jack L’Heureux remarked, “I cannot be more proud of my staff. They work very hard to deliver quality and compassionate care to our residents.”

As a nonprofit, faith-based organization, St. Clare’s core values speak to our mission of enhancing the lives of those we serve. These core values are: Hospitality, Stewardship, Respect, and Justice.

LEARN WHY ANIMALS COMPETE AT RUSH CITY PUBLIC LIBRARY Rush City Public Library is hosting a program about how and why animals compete in the wild at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, July 21. JULY 21  24 CHISAGO COUNTY FAIR The Chisago County Fair will take place at the fairgrounds in Rush City from Thursday through Sunday, July 21-24. Motocross, tractor pulls and the demolition derby take place in the grandstand. The parade is on Saturday at 3 p.m. followed by chainsaw races. Free on Sunday at 11 a.m. is Kid’s Day, featuring a pedal pull, treasure hunt, farm babies, “Little Squirts Demo Derby” and much more. Having lived here in Braham for 55 years, been a volunteer of Tusen Tack for 20 years, I’ve enjoyed working with all volunteers and my good friend Lucy Studt. I saw a friend on the street one day said to her, “we need help at the store”, this lady came in the next day and started volunteering. That’s how great a small town is working together. What changes I have seen in the past years; I was so excited when we moved from the Main Street building to our new location. We have more room, and much better display room, and really enjoy visiting with the customers. I now volunteer 12 hours a week at the store. Her granddaughter who received a Tusen Tack scholarship upon graduating, and is now in the nursing field, told her grandma she is like her, working long hours and really enjoys her job.
