OCT. 6 & 7 PUBLIC POWER WEEK Mora Municipal Utilities invites community members to participate in a variety of Public Power Week events at the utility office (101 Lake St.). There will be tours of the plant both days at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. There will also be a light bulb exchange.

Bring in a compact fluorescent or incandescent light bulb and receive a free LED light bulb.

Pollinator information and seed packets will be distributed while supplies last and there will be free popcorn, magnetic chip clips (while supplies last) and register for a gift basket.

Recognize and Prevent Repetitive Stress Injuries Repetitive stress injuries, or RSIs, can impact muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves.

Though The Mayo Clinic estimates that three million people in the United States are affected by such injuries, some may not fully understand just how they reached a point where they are suffering from an RSI. RSIs are a condition that occurs when too much stress is placed on one part of the body, typically a joint, over and over again, resulting in inflammation and potential tissue damage. RSIs typically happen when a person repeats the same movements again and again.

It comes as no surprise then that RSIs are commonly experienced by athletes and office workers.

The elderly are most affected by RSIs, but these types of injuries are also known to occur in younger adults and children. These injuries tend to develop over time and tend to go unnoticed in their early stages.

Prevention is the best defense against RSIs. Start by using proper

equipment at all times to help keep the body protected and in neutral positions. Such equipment may include support devices for wrists or knees and shoes that fit well and provide ample support.

OCT. 1 OKTOBERFEST Zion Lutheran Church in Mora will host an Oktoberfest dinner form 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. with traditional German food. Dick Szyplinsky will provide German music. there will be craft fair items supplied by Zion Lutheran Church members and proceeds will benefit the Mora High School food pantry and Recovering HOPE Treatment Center, both in Mora.

OCT. 1 MIND/BODY CONNECTION Mille Lacs Health System will hold a fall wellness event called “Healthy Me - The Mind/Body Connection” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Holy Cross Center at the MLHS campus in Onamia.

An inflatable exhibit of the human brain will be present as an interactive experience with a tour guide with information and facts about the brain.

OCT. 6  9 6TH ANNUAL HWY. 61 FILM FESTIVAL The 6th annual Highway 61 Film Festival begins Thursday, 7 p.m., at Pine Center for the Arts, 265 5th St. SE, Pine City. Films continue through Sunday, at Pine Technical & Community College, Friday and Saturday at 5:30 p.m., followed by 9 p.m. late-night sessions at Pizza Pub, Pine City, both nights. In addition, a familyfriendly children’s session of fi lms will be shown at the North West Company Fur Post on Saturday at 10 a.m. Single-session tickets may be purchased at the door or all-access passes are available in advance at Pine Center for the Arts.
