The Ottawa RedBlacks newly named mascot, Big Joe Mufferaw, greets excited children at Kanata’s French public school in Morgan’s Grant on March 28. The mascot was renamed Big Joe in English and Grand Jos in French on March 31 after some felt offended by the anglicized verison. See the full story on page 11.

News- She bought the ticket on a whim. It was Friday, March 28, the end of another work week, and Tina Ferrone was shopping for groceries during her lunch
break at Your Independent Grocer in Billings Bridge Plaza. The 42-year-old Kanata woman had never purchased a lottery ticket before in her life, but the lottery’s grand prize seemed too good pass up, she said. “(My husband and I) saw the commer-
cial, it was like $48 million,” said Ferrone. “I thought, ‘I have to pick up a few groceries, I might as well pick up a ticket.’” The next morning, Ferrone was drying her hair and listening to the radio, when she heard that the weekly draw’s grand prize winner was won by someone in Ottawa.
