UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI
CLIFTON LITERARY CENTER Located roughly 1 mile north of the University of Cincinnati’s Uptown Campus, the site was situated on Ludlow avenue, part of Clifton’s Gaslight District. Known as Cincinnati’s “Main Street neighborhood” with a very enthusiastic community , variety of shopping and dining experiences surround the site along with housing units. The program sought to create a new library and community center with programs such as lecture hall, media room and gallery space with a collection of rare art books. My design focus was driven by a desire to heighten and showcase the energy and collaborative efforts of the community. This intent informed a number of design decisions and reflected in the building’s form, transparency and materiality. My main focus was on the community a library is solely for the people who use it. The form is very monumental to express the idea that the library is heralding its presence, awakening the people around it.

The transparent nature of the library promotes engagement. The hovering floors make you feel like you are in a special place, which fulfills the intent of illuminating the experience of being inside the library. With focus to symmetry, this was an attempt to create classicism in a modern building besides serving easy circulation and navigation throughout the space. The building ultimately ends into a pavilion at the top to express free thinking and a free space for collaboration.

POOL HOUSE The pool house combines a number of programmatic elements to create a multi sensory experience for the visitors. The intent of the project is to create water as mass, almost juxtaposing its property and form with special attention to enclosure, siting, sequence and visual experience. While speculative, a specific topography was issued, making the relationship between the site and building forms the primary focus of my design. This relationship influenced a series of sections and perspectives which further address issues such as orientation, approach as well as the
experience derived from occupying the different spaces and programmatic elements within. Careful attention has to paid to the experience of being in each space such as the feeling of being submerged in the plunge pool versus the feeling of being suspended in the pool above because of their position under in and above ground; the visual connection with the river and surroundings when in the big pool. There is a sense of harmony between all the programs and the river is almost a part of the building.

efficient flexible sustainable On the right is a model for a confidential project Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill is currently working on to provide a desirable, high density commercial office space. It offers open space to the public with an opportunity for a future pedestrian and vehicular connection to the waterfront. The tower represents commitment to enhancing building quality and performance while reducing environmental footprint and strengthening communities. It is engineered to maximize available natural light and reduce internal glare by responding to the arc of the sun. The form of the tower has been brilliantly modified to improve both light quality and quantity. My main responsibilities included production of design and construction documents. Working with a team of four people. I helped in the creation of files, 3-d modeling, the design of the interior core and the origami wall, parking spaces as well interior renderings. I helped produce elevations, sections and street scapes. I also constructed the model on the right and produced the laser cut files for the cores, floor plates, as well as the skin.

THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO
The Becker Friedman Institute for Research in Economics and Department of Economics
This project establishes a bold new setting for the University of Chicago’s Department of Economics and the Becker Friedman Institute for Research in Economics by providing classrooms, collaborative spaces, and workspaces for undergraduate and graduate students, and their academic programs. I mainly contributed in solving design problems, revit modeling, interior architectural concerns and answering RFIs.

SPATIAL UNIT/ NOT A REGULAR BRICK A group of fifteen students collaborated in the design, acquisition of material and construction of 48 identical units that could be assembled together to enclose 600 cubic feet of space. Made of birch plywood and stained OSB, the unit is exposed as three separate volumes with the help of materiality and construction.
MODULARITY The unit was assembled by putting together three volumes based on a 10 module. The modularity of the unit helped it orient itself in various different ways to create walls, tessellations and to turn the corner.
SPATIAL ARRANGEMENTS One of the most interesting qualities of the unit is it’s possibility of creating both rectilinear and arrangements. Also, it had made it possible to create a solid wall as well a wall with voids in the middle.

SPATIAL UNIT/ VERSATILITY The versatility of the unit allows it to create a multitude of forms. A duality of flat and tessellating surfaces produce dynamism. The ability of the unit to create a wall at an angle of 45 degrees allows for apertures for light and voids.
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT/ BRANDING The project was aimed at branding the offices for Clayco. We followed the concept of rivers, keeping in mind two important aspects - convergence, i.e. the merging of distinct technologies, industries, or devices into a unified whole and confluence, which is the coming together, meeting or gathering at one point (a happy confluence of art and science). I mainly contributed in concept and design development, making quick mock-up of models, rendering and installation process.

MISSION STATEMENT To brand the CBRE Kansas City office with inspired and meaningful graphic stories. Stories that will enhance the employees’ and clients’ experience throughout the space and engage them in a memorable way.
CONCEPT STATEMENT With industry expertise, knowledge and commitment to clients, CBRE is the leader in real estate services. The design of the new Kansas City office showcases CBRE’s global brand while reflecting its distinct geographic location and character. Strong architectural angles reference the convergence of rivers and railroads critical in the history of the city. Linear patter emphasizes two central boulevards linking the customer area and neighborhoods while map ad landmark graphics communicate the spirit of the city. The environment will wow clients and serve the needs of staff giving them variety in where and how they choose to work.
GRAPHIC STATEMENT Kansas City is a diverse and legendary place in th heart of the country. Our concept wraps itself in the legacy capturing the “personality of Kansas City”. Here in this office we begin to tell those stories through abstract patterns and visual tools used to make this CBRE location local, unique and memorable. Kansas City is our city.
