IDEA IDEA Through this exhibition we would like to drive attention to the perception of Similarities in Difference - one of the key feature to coexist in the modern, constantly changing society. It’s not only about comparing or classifying, but it’s mostly about the ability to create metaphors and analogies. To see similarities in similar things or differences in different it’s not so hard as seeing Similarities in difference. It requires from us to start from the position of respect and equal treatment. The aim of this exhibition is not to point out here we are similar and here we are different. It’s not about creating more borders - it’s about building bridges, finding links, making connections. We created the open call for the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Art and Design in Wrocław and for Aristotle University in Thessaloniki. We invited the artists to get inspired by the exhibition title and to create artworks that will be a creative respond to it, by means of printmaking techniques. The idea and the form this exhibition has is to be a preview, filed for research, study. It doesn’t deliver ready answers to the title, it’s giving us the hints. We are proud to say that the exhibition, as well as accompaing program (opening, family workshop, presentations of bookbinding and printmaking, curatorial walk, presentations for schools) was a full sucsess. In the Cultural Center of Kalamata I had the oportunity to share my knoledge and passion about printmaking with all the visitors. This exhibition was organized by KANE Κοινωνική Ανάπτυξη Νέων /Social Youth Development and co-funded by Erasmus+ program. It was a pleasure for me to create this event, and I would like to thank again all the people that got involved, Majka Dokudowicz, exhibition curator

My way of presenting myself and subsequently my art has always been quite performative, probably as a way to claim my own space and freedom of expression in a society that seeks to suppress. This eventually affected how I created art, making my work mostly instinctual, establishing emotional associations with visual stimuli. A manifestation of the archetypes that lay inside the subconscious mind, a method of exploring the inner workings of the human psyche. I currently am an undergraduate student at The School of Visual and Applied Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in my 6th semester.

One of the events during the exhibition period was the presentation of the printmaking workshop held by Majka Dokudowicz in the Youth Center of Kalamata Kentro Neon Kalamatas - fully independent, voluntary based organisation supported on a self-funded basis. It is open to everybody who wishes to participate in the existing workshops or propose their own. In general, it’s inspired by the idea of active citizens exchanging knowledge for common personal and social development.

The workshop took place from February to May and it had it’s final exhibition at 30th of May 2018. The participants have the chance to get to know the history of printmaking, try the suminagashi technique, monotypes and practice linocuts. For all of the participants it was the first contact with printmaking and it was a pleasure to see how from very basic designs they were moving to more and more intricate patterns and sketches. On 23rd and 30th of April the workshop took place in Cultural Center, alongside with the exhibition, which gave the visitors the chance to see how printmaking process looks like ‘from behind the curtain’ and to the participant of workshop it gave the opportunity to practice their theoretical knowledge by explaining and presenting the process and tools to the audience.
