KPA sponsoring the Kansas 4-H Foundation Gourmet Getaway The Kansas Pork Association is helping sponsor the eighth Gourmet Getaway, a 4-H benefit event, hosted by the Kansas 4-H Foundation. An expected 350 participants will travel to the Rock Springs 4-H Center which will be transformed on Friday, November 2, into an elegant dining environment to highlight the talents of leading chefs from across the state. Stephen Giunta, Culinary Director of Cargill Food service Meat Solutions, Wichita, and Kenneth Baker, Executive Chef and owner of Pachamama’s Restaurant, Lawrence, will feature pork in their presentations to the group. The KPA is also providing recipe materials for the participants.

Kansas Pork Association, National Pork Board and Hy-Vee Stores Team Up Kansas Pork Association, National Pork Board and Hy-Vee stores teamed up to help promote pork in an unconventional way. The promotion was through the Hy-Vee stores in Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska and South Dakota. During the month of October consumers found pork advertisement and recipes on the private label Hy-Vee brand of BBQ sauce and tortillas. Both of these items had an on-pack advertising and the tortillas offered a peel off pork recipe on the back. These

items are the number one seller in their division throughout all stores. The goal was for the consumer to purchase the product and then see the advertisement. The advertisement then should have driven the consumer to the pork meat case or allow that product to sit in the consumer’s pantry or in the refrigerator till the next time they visit the store and pick up pork to go with the items they already have at home. In the state of Kansas Hy-Vee stores can be found in Lawrence, Leawood, Lenexa, Mission, Olathe and Overland Park.

KPA Serves Johnsoville Brats Kansas Pork Association teamed up with Johnsonville Sausage and the Jackson County Development Corporation to serve over 450 Johnsonville Brats at the K-State vs. KU game. The promotion was to highlight the importance of the Johnsonville Sausage plant in Jackson County. This plant uses Kansas pork for its products.
