Pork is Leaner than ever and we need your help to spread the word The USDA announced new nutrient data on nine cuts of fresh pork this past summer indicating pork is leaner than ever before. With pork in this position, the Kansas Pork Association is asking for your help in spreading the word across Kansas grocery stores. We have “point of sale” materials available FREE OF CHARGE that promote pork as a lean alternative to chicken. This “nutrition kit” includes magnetic signs, meatcase cards and educational/recipe brochures to promote pork’s slimmer nutritional profile. The BBQ kit we previously promoted is currently unavailable. We will ship all materials to you FREE OF CHARGE,. We need your help getting them utilized in grocery stores around Kansas. We want to act fast and have a great representation for OCTOBER PORK MONTH! Another idea would be to include your kids. If any of them are in 4-H, this would make a great activity for their record book! E-mail kpa@kspork.org or call the office, 785-776-0442, with the following information: name, address, phone #, E-mail, # of kits needed, name of grocery store and town of where you’re placing the kits. Take a picture talking to the meat manager, putting materials up in the grocery store, standing outside the grocery store, etc. and send it to the KPA Office. Once we receive your photos, we’ll send you a Pork logo, Koozie King Cooler as your gift for helping us spread the great word about pork.Limit to one cooler per participant.

National and Target Market Advertising The Other White Meat’s brand advertising campaign is active again in September and October. Nationally, consumers can see television advertising in prime time programming on The Food Network, SoapNet and The Lifetime Movie Network. In addition to national cable television, consumers in target markets can also see and hear about how The Other White Meat livens up dinner on network television between four and ten pm, drive-time radio and on billboards in high traffic locations.

Cinema Advertising The Other White Meat hit the big screen in September. Television advertising appeared in over 1,600 movie theaters across the target markets of Atlanta, Dallas, Philadelphia and Sacramento. Theater groups carrying The Other White Meat advertising prior to shows and on their lobby screens include AMC, Cinemark, United Artists, Regal, Georgia Theaters, Signature and Edwards. Nielsen estimates show over 5,618,000 consumers attended shows with The Other White Meat advertising, with over 3,089,000 consumers were seated when the spots ran.

More Non-Traditional Advertising Consumes shopping Albertsons, Wall*Mart, King Soopers, Sam’s Club, Rite Aid and Kmart in Denver may have seen The Other White Meat advertising in a new place last month. Peel off labels, encouraging consumers to make meals more exciting with pork, were placed on 740,000 plastic gallons of milk throughout the target market. The labels included an easy to prepare pork recipe on the back. Showing up in untraditional places, like on a shopping list staple that will end up in the refrigerator, helps reinforce brand personality as well as interact with a consumer in their home.

Pork and beer to have a great fall marriage We would like to have a great representation for October Pork Month, but also would like to continue the promotion through December.

Pork and Boston Beer, (Sam Adams) will be bringing an exciting Octoberfest ($2.00 off fresh pork promotion) to over 1600 stores during the 2 month period of Sept 3-thru Oct 31st. The Supervalu owned groups of Albertson’s, Shaws, Acme, and Jewel of Chicago will all be participating.
