B4B History

The Kappa Alpha Order Educational Foundation’s Bid for Brotherhood (B4B) began in 1998 in Kansas City, Missouri. Started by then Knight Commander James R. Estes, B4B serves to combine an alumni event with a meaningful fundraising activity to provide additional grant support for KA’s valuable leadership education programs. By providing a grant to the Order annually, the costs associated with providing outstanding educational opportunities are minimal to our undergraduate members. The eventual goal is to have all of KA’s programs available to every undergraduate KA at zero cost to them. Through 2023, the net income raised from B4B events has totaled more than $2 million. Each auction continues to grow and it is our hope that this 27th annual B4B, held at the Hillwood Country Club, will be our best yet.

8:00pm Shaping our Future - KAOEF’s Fund of Need

As we celebrate this evening with fun and fellowship here in Nashville, we also recognize the accomplishments of our undergraduate brothers of Kappa Alpha Order. This success is attributable to the strong leadership within our chapters. The training KA provides for chapter officers and leaders at values-based leadership conferences, such as our Officer Training Conferences (OTC) and our flagship event, the Number I’s Leadership Institute (NLI), are top-shelf and best-in-class education. Each of these programs instills KA’s values and aids in the further development of our undergraduate brothers, as well as strengthening our chapters.

In honor of this year’s 27th annual Bid for Brotherhood our “Fund of Need” goal is $30,000 for NLI. Every Number I needs our continued support tonight to ensure these critical components of KA’s leadership education is available to each chapter leader.

KA remains committed to excellence and with your support we will continue to achieve new heights and retain our position of excellence in the Greek world.

Pappy Van Winkle 12 Year Bourbon

The Van Winkle Special Reserve 12 Year (750 ml) is “a perfect combination of age and proof. The 12 years of aging and medium proof of 90.4 seem to be just right in creating a very pleasant drink of whiskey. This fine bourbon can compete with any excellent cognac as an after-dinner drink.” - Paul Pacult

Introduced on the market just before prohibition, Old Rip Van Winkle was not reintroduced until after 1972. Julian Van Winkle III (Pappy’s grandson and a 1970 initiate of Zeta chapter at Randolph-Macon College) took over the Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery company in 1981.
