SHARP
(Self-Harm Awareness & Resource Project)
Introduction to SHARP SHARP (Self-harm Awareness & Resource Project) is commissioned by the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and has been running for 18 months, in this time the SHARP team have supported many professionals in Health, Social and Education. Training and consulting professionals is an important investment in tackling adolescent self harm and suicidality and that effective inter-agency working is essential to achieve early intervention and suicide prevention. The SHARP team will raise awareness, build confidence and skills, and provide support to front-line service providers and professionals to intervene and manage young people who present with self harm and suicidal behaviours. SHARP Practitioners also provide children and young people with opportunities and strategies for hope and recovery from the effects of self-harm and minimise the risk of future harm. SHARP offer training, consultations, face to face therapeutic support, school clinics, parental support (SHARP 4 Parents) and group work for young people (Me:Source).

Her area of expertise is that of youth mental health, with a particular focus on the early intervention and prevention of mental health problems, including psychosis and associated co-morbidities in young people. Maria is the lead of the Youth Mental Health and Well-being MIN; a collaborative network of researchers, academics, clinicians and service users.
