Air Raid-Pearl Harbor By Theodore Taylor
“THE ATTACK THAT STUNNED THE WORLD” On December 7, 1941, the Japanese stunned the world with its military act. Hundreds of planes and many submarines were used in the destruction of Pearl Harbor. The days before the attack were days of negotiation with Japan over the peace in Asia. No deals were made and so the Japanese decided to strike the harbor in the island of Oahu. This attack entered the United States of America into World War 2. The US was in the Allies team with Great Britain while the Japanese were on the Axis team with Germany and Italy. Tens of damaged ships and over 2,000 people killed in this surprising attack. Most of Japan’s attacks in the past have come by surprise without warning. This attack has become important in the US and it is always remembered.
“ LONG LIVE PEARL HARBOR” WHAT DID I KNOW BEFORE I STARTED I knew that it happened during the mid 1900s and that it took place in Pearl Harbor. I also knew that Japan were the attackers and that the US were the defenders. Also that Britain was a team with the USA.

WHAT SUCCESS MEANS IN THE BOOK AND TO ME In this book there are many different meanings of success. To the Japanese it meant to take over the Far East. But later after they didn't meet negotiations with the United States, it meant to bomb pearl harbor secretly and do a lot of damage but not concede much damage. Success to the US meant to meet negotiations with Japan, but after that failed they tried to know everything that was going on with Japan. To me success means to have good grades in school and get high honor rolls. And then it would change and become going to a good university and having a good future. Like having a good job and living in a good place.

Americans Wrong Thoughts The Americans thought that the Japanese would attack on Nov. 30 because of some messages they intercepted. After that date passed they thought that they were just planning for an attack but they didn't know that they had already sent ships and submarines towards Hawaii. They underestimated the Japanese and didn't know that they would think like that.
WHAT AMERICANS BELIEVED “The War Department had been intercepting and analyzing secret cables between Tokyo and the Japanese Embassy in Washington and thought at one point that the Japanese would attack Hawaii on Sunday, Nov. 30. A Hawaii newspaper even warned, in a blaring headline, of a possible attack.
