Analysis - Carpenter Center The Analysis semester focused on investigating the core activity systems of the building. Breaking down different elements in order to reveal hidden experiential qualities. Fall 2018 (ARC 301)
TRANSFORMATIONAL MODEL

11
Carpenter Center - Transformational Model The building is radically transformed by unfolding the facade, ramp, and brise soleil, not as physical elements of the building, however they are treated more as experiential qualities. The brise soleil is constantly changing in angle, mimicking the way it would be experienced as though you are walking along the ramp. The central core of the building is represented as a void. The experience of time, speed and orientation are constantly shifting as you move along the ramp through the building. Baswood + Steel

PHYSICAL PLASTER CAST MODEL
43
Plaster curdles are placed in the upper one third of the mold. This parts the smooth upper and lower mass surfaces.
45
Voids cross through from the smooth plaster surface to the crumbles, keeping them connected rather than being separate objects.

Inhabitation The inhabitation project focuses on creating a spiritual space for contemplation. Standard brick modules are used to create a fluid experience that guides you through the space. Spring 2018 (ARC 202)

SECTION
A Space for Contemplation The brick modules are carefully oriented allowing for several alternating lighting conditions. This creates a dynamic atmosphere within the space. Gaps between the bricks act as apertures. The overall form is oinched from the top to limit direct sun light.
