VS Movie Re-makes Re-Makes

most Anticipated Re-Makes:

The 31-year-old comedic horror film, Ghostbusters, will return in 2016, this time with an all female cast. The Ghostbusters remake, other wise known as Ghostbusters 3 will star Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. Although the movie is still in pre-production and the plot is unknown, the film is almost certain to be a hilarious blockbuster because of the phenomenon the original movie started. With four-powerhouse female comedians staring in this film and hilarious comedy award-winning director Paul Feig, Ghostbusters 3 will be a movie you won’t want to miss.

After the live-action classic fairytale Cinderella was a success, it became clear that Beauty and the Beast should be the next remake. The live-action film will allow people to re-live their childhood by staying very true to the original cartoon while also allowing characters to become three-dimensional, so people may fall in love with the film all over again. Although these sequels are definitely worth waiting for, if you want to watch something much sooner, Poltergeist, a contemporary version of the classic 1958 film about a family whose suburban house is haunted by evil forces, will hit theaters very soon on May 22, 2015.

Un- Anticipated Re-Makes: In 2015, yet another superhero movie will be back up on the big screen for its second debut. Despite being made only ten years prior, Fantastic Four will be reaching new audiences with a different cast and potentially new storyline. Although audiences love superhero movies and they do not fail to bring in the big bucks box offices are looking for, the re-make of Fantastic Four is unnecessary. Not only does this show that the movie industry is running short of ideas for movies but it also demonstrates Hollywood’s weird obsession for recreating every superhero movie ever created. (I mean c’mon, no one can ever replace Chris Evans). Re-making Fantastic Four is basically

saying that the original movie is no longer relevant and good enough for audiences, which is by far untrue. However, Fantastic Four will not be the only movie being re-made in the future years. Scarface, The Body Guard and Dirty Dancing are all slated to be re-made. These are iconic films, from the classic line of “Nobody puts baby in a corner,” to the definitive duo of Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, re-creating these movies will serve an injustice to these iconic films and characters we have all grown up with and learned to love. Some movies should just be left in peace. Hollywood needs to stop living in the past and move on to newer and more original ideas.

most Anticipated Sequels:

While most sequels fail to live up to their originals, others have broken the trend Pitch Perfect 2 is expected to be apart of this legacy when it hits theaters this summer. When Pitch Perfect came out back in 2012, it was an instant success and became the second highest grossing musical comedy of all time. The sequel promises to bring an array of new characters including a cappella sensation Penatonix, but won’t stray too far away from the first by bringing back Rebel Wilson as the scene-stealing comedic relief Fat Amy. Aside from Pitch Perfect 2, other sequels worthy of checking out this summer include

Jurassic World a classic franchise that created a huge fan base. Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens another classic franchise that promises to create a new legacy similar to the one given in the original films. Finding Dory, a continuation of 2003’s Finding Nemo. X-Men: Apocalypse and Insidious Chapter: 3 are films promising to differ from the original by focusing on younger versions of characters, rather than the characters we all recognize. Fans familiar with these franchises, will be surprised to find a new twist on their respective installment, while still captivating audiences.

Un- Anticipated Sequels:

Hollywood is notorious for making sequels after sequels, but there comes a time in the film business when movies should stop having sequels. Later this year, yet another Mission Impossible will be hitting theatres and it’s not something to be excited for. This will be the fifth installment of the Mission Impossible series and hopefully the last. I love Tom Cruise, but I don’t think I can take any more shirtless scenes. With all these Mission Impossible sequels, it’s as if Hollywood is trying to create their own James Bond series, but they are failing miserably. All the Mission Impossible movies are predictable, boring

and unoriginal and for that, any more sequels should be avoided. Other notable sequels that shouldn’t be made are the obvious Paul Blart: Mall Cop and based on the trailer, it looks like the sequel will not bring in much of an audience. Ice Age is also coming out with a sequel, Ice Age 5 which makes me want to re-evaluate how often ice ages occur. They’re also making another Purge, which upon finding out made me want to literally purge. Although there are many movies out there that deserve sequels, there are also some that should just stay out of the limelight, and Hollywood needs a quick lesson on how to differ between the two.
