ABOUT ME I am a recent graduate of the bachelor's program of architecture at the University of Texas at San Antonio. I was born and raised in Matamoros, a city of northern Mexico, but decided to move to San Antonio in the pursuit of a better education. I feel very fortunate for having experienced a different culture alongside my studies because it certainly expanded all my personal and professional expectations. I look forward to strengthen my skills and continue to learn from this beautiful career in the professional practice. My interests in architecture include social and cultural issues, urban studies and sustainable development in commercial and residential buildings.

SI TE PLAN ABOUT THE PROJECT Mission Espada is one of the three preserved missions that form The San Antonio Missions National Historic Park in Texas. This project consisted in the design of a Kayak Center which program required a reception area for kayak rentals, a Sports Cafe and an outdoor pavilion. The design concept emerged with the idea of the growth of a flower opening up for the people to enjoy its beauty. It evolved into two separate structures that together with the pavilion, opens a view to the San Antonio River ready to invite people to the kayaking experience.

The San Antonio Botanical Garden wants to re-design the existing area of the community garden. The program consists of a “Sunday House” that can provide a classroom space, and a small kitchen that would be used to teach families and children about a healthier way of living. The overall design idea for this project envisions a dynamic space that will fit with the innovative concept of the Botanical Garden and the existing infrastructures, through selected materials and an exciting form designed so it could save energy and improve the environment.
CONCEPT DIAGRAMS The proposed design wants to create a learning environment through the integration of sustainable elements that will help to maintain some of the building’s utilities. The form of the roof and the building itself emerged from the idea of integrating the building to its natural environment by collecting rainwater through a sloping

green roof. The design also proposes a system to save energy by irrigating the planting beds along the site with the harvested water from the roof. Inside the building, the floor level increases from the entrance to the back end of the classroom to maximize daylight penetration. The windows are located high on the walls and can be fixed to control natural ventilation.

ABOUT THE PROJECT Dreamhill Estates is a historic neighborhood located in San Antonio, TX. This project purpose was to re-imagine the community’s existing structure to accommodate a new building with a multi-purpose room for different classes, activities and events. The design intent is to be flexible, economically efficient and durable.

In order to be economically efficient, the structure design was thought to be lightweight and simple. The multi-purpose room is being provided with operable shading devices made with the site’s existing bamboo. Garage-like doors are located on both ends of the room to allow for a flexible space open to the exterior yet nicely shaded and ventilated. The plan has a central corridor which separates the private and public activities. This allows the private spaces to be kept closed. A rain-catching system is proposed by sloping two roofs to the middle, and creating a water duct.

ABOUT THE PROJECT This urban infill project is located adjacent to the world-class collection of the San Antonio Museum of Art. In teams, we were designated three different buildings to arrange within the dense site. We were asked to develop a new amenity on the shared space, so we decided to extend the museum outreach to a plaza which will be used to display sculptures, and will create a memorable experience for the pedestrians. Each of the team members had to design one of the three buildings with a different height requirement and a different restaurant. In my case, I have the tallest building (limited to 7 floors and no more than 2 apartment units per floor) with the yogurt shop at the ground floor. My main design goal was to create more social experiences within the program requirements, and to provide good sunlight despite the building’s conflicting orientation.

B US STAT ION | 2015 @1001 BROADWAY, SAN ANTONIO, TX.
ABOUT THE PROJECT This project is a bus station located at downtown San Antonio. The program consisted in having two terminal services with baggage storage, a waiting area, public restrooms, offices, and a staff break room. It is a two-story building with an outdoor shading space to receive the buses. The ground floor plan was developed after the concept of directing people to the main areas of San Antonio’s downtown, the Tower of the Americas and the Alamo in one direction, and the river walk in another direction. That is how the internal circulation is shaped by locating the two entries at those directions. The abstract shape of the canopy for outdoor areas has the purpose of inviting people into this new space that wants to socially connect with the adjacent Maverick Park. The general design goal is to be innovative enough to make a memorable first

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The building design is divided in two triangular masses representing the city’s different cultural growth on the north and the south. Part of the concept intention is to create an expressionist archietcture that can inspire students and attract the community. The materials and terraces are intended to create views and connections with the Historic Pearl and Downtown Broadway Areas.
