etter from the director... No one wakes up one day and says “let’s do Into the Woods for our high school production this year”. It’s one of those shows that require almost everything to be in the right place for you to even consider it. First, you need a talented group of students… check. Second, a talented production team… check. Lastly, you need to respect the work of Stephen Sondheim… check. When you go “Into the Woods” you step into a world that bends the line between fairy-tale and reality. It’s a world that is filled with characters who are every one of us, or people we wish we could be. It’s a show that requires you to enjoy with your eyes, follow with your mind, and listen with your heart. But I also ask you to reflect on the current world we live in today, and how the choices we have made will affect our future. Remember… careful the things you say, children will listen. I have been very fortunate in my past 8 years here at Girard High School to work with some of the greatest young individuals I will ever have the pleasure of knowing. We have learned together that amazing things can be done with very little, when you work with amazing people. I have had the distinct honor of watching scared young boys grow into strong young men, and awkward young girls grow into beautiful young women. I could walk away tomorrow knowing that I was part of something bigger and that I’m a better person today because of these opportunities. Thank You. Chris Dearbeck

bout the show...

The Brothers Grimm meet Broadway with an epic fairytale where worlds collide. James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone’s favorite storybook characters and brings them together for a timeless yet relevant piece and rare modern classic. The story follows a Baker and his wife who wish to have a child, Cinderella who wishes to attend the King’s Festival, and Jack who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results. A Tony Award-winning masterpiece and one of Sondheim’s most popular shows , INTO THE WOODS is a clever reimagining of beloved classic fairytales witty enough to make old stories fresh for adults and lovely enough to enchant youngsters. MTI strictly prohibits the videotaping or other video or audio recording of this production. Please refrain from taking photos of this performance as it is a distraction to our student performers
