MIAMI BEACH REC CENTER
Sited along Collins Canal, the recreation center integrates a public walkway throughout the site. An undulating wall allows for natural ventilation while offering a glimpse of the rowboats to passers-by. Visitors look out onto a shallow canal used for boat launching and training sessions.

Documentation of a modern Italian housing type and construction of exhibition quality models bring recognition to a typology that developed under a strong political regime. A growing middle class coupled with societal changes prompted designers to investigate new concepts and incorporate them into their designs.

A focus on maximum space for the least area dictated the design. A curvilinear form nearly doubles the amount of space while preserving necessary aircraft clearances. The hangar profile accommodates the environment through natural ventilation and lighting. The central building offers the aircraft as a spectacle for workers and visitors.

Storefront
Cracker Shop in Asakusa Mar ket
A storefront of less than 10’ wide accommodates a full staff with storage for the native snack. Boxes are neatly piled and space is occupied with maximum efficiency. A study of the storefront as a building type in Japan exposes a historical foundation in a modern setting.

Storefronts of Tokyo
The Ryoan-ji garden exhibits the patience and attention to detail intrinsic to the Japanese culture. The placement of the islands in the garden create axis of symmetr y within the subconscious minds of the visitor s. The monks believe that when one is able to see all 15 rocks in the garden enlightenment has been reached.

Life in Rome
The experience of a semester in Rome exposed me to a culture that has bestowed great value to the design of the built environment. Being surrounded and drawing from the historic ancient monuments coupled with the modern and contemporary city offered invaluable lessons in architecture, urbanism and social & political history.

A dome, ciborium, altar and tabernacle are required for followers to participate in the Eucharist. Intended for temporary installation on Isola Tiberina -- the location of the ancient temple to Aesculapius -- the design reflects the rich history of the Island.

SOLAR OVEN
As par t of an exercise to familiarize students with tools, groups were given a sheet of plywood and a 2x2x8. The solar oven operates on the principle of capturing the sun’s radiation to heat food. The oven reaches temperatures over 250 F allowing users to fully cook food without the use of electricity.

The existing trailer had to be demolished and refurbished. A frame was then welded using 1”x1” and 1”x2” steel.
A rendering of the semester long project that is scheduled for completion in Febr uar y 2011.
Conceived as a mobile processing kitchen and permaculture education facility for local farmers, the studio designed and constructed a new trailer on the chassis of an existing 5th wheel. The kitchen provides a means for farmers to independently process crops on-site. Unlike conventional food trucks, the mobile kitchen features two drop down panels that create a platform for standing during educational demonstrations.
