THE INITIAL IDEA FOR THe LOGO WAS DESIGNED IN 2016 FOR CHACHA’S MAGAZINE idea. so it’s supposed to be a header title on a magazine cover. I can’t find the original file but it circulated between myself and some ups members. (I will continue to look)
Fast foward to now. The idea has been expanded upon pushing this as a modular logo. It’s only but a piece of what it can become but at the same time it’s perfectly complete as is. the idea of it being modular is for it to foster collaboration between ups and Visual artists.
The collaboration aspect direction is inspired by the work that google does with it’s commissioned google logo doodles that feature on the homepage. The only constraint they usually give is that it should say “Google” and also incorparate the colors but artists basially have free reign. This has created a really diverse doodle portrfolio over the years and it’s helped google to constantly push it’s visual language.
The Google Logo is still the same but It’s allowed itself to be experimented with by many artist across the world and I love what that has created. So with UPS IT’S INCOMPLETENESS IS PERFECT BECAUSE ARTISTS CAN NOW “FINISH” IT BY CREATING FROM WHAT IT IS. Ideally, logo collaborations would be our visual direction for the banner and logo.
SINCE WE’RE ALREADY A PLATFORM THAT COLLABORATES WITH VISUAL ARTISTS I THINK THIS WILL ONLY EXPAND ON THAT IDEA. wE DON’T HAVE TO REACH OUT TO ARTIST’S EMPTY HANDED BUT FOR THOSE WHO PREFER IT, WE PROVIDE THIS AS A STARTING POINT. ARTISTS CAN DRAW THE REST OR DRAW AROUND IT; THEY CAN USE PHOTOSHOP; THEY CAN PAINT; SO WHATEVER IT IS THEY DO THEY CAN DO IT TO THIS LOGO. I went ahead and got started with my own interpretation.
a mock-up of if an artist were to ‘doodle’ around a theme. this is about music. but they could do anything like little taxis, faces, trees. This one lacks texture & debth because i did this in 1 minute exactly. it would be less clean cut and really drawn in.

I understand that these are a little underwhelming but if you itemize your imagination you’ll be able to understand the infinite the possibilities. at the end of it all we’d have quite a great visual portfolio for underpressure built alongside a myriad of artists.
