The spare change that changed America In the winter of 1784, Spain lost a shipload of spare change that would have saved their colonial North American empire. The El Cazador was a brigantine of war, loaded with coins from the Mexico City mint, bound for the port of New Orleans. Searching for the ocean stone The last time I was in the Dominican Republic, I was seeking what every jewellery enthusiast looks for on this tiny island— Larimar, the exquisite blue stone that is only found in the island’s mountainsides.
