Annual Report WWW.TORAHDAY.ORG
WHAT A YEAR!
From The President MS. SARA ROBBINS Not every school impresses Dr. Dan Teitelbaum, the leader of the accreditation committee for SAIS (the Southern Association of Independent Schools) who visited us in February. But Torah Day School truly amazed him! “As part of our reaccreditation visit, we met many TDSA students, alumni and parents--and everyone had a story about a favorite teacher or administrator. It was remarkable. That’s all everyone wanted to talk about,” said Dr. Teitelbaum. We are also pleased that SAIS deemed Torah Day School to be in full compliance with their rigorous standards of governance and academia and awarded us with re-accreditation. “Torah Day School students are excited to learn, respectful and on task,” observed Ms. Julia Grantham from the SAIS team.
talmid chacham, past Head of School and educational consultant, Rabbi Gottlieb brings over 25 years of experience to Torah Day School. We are grateful to the many parents, staff, community members, and supporters who met with Rabbi Gottlieb and shared their enthusiasm for his candidacy with our Search Committee, led by Dr. Yaakov Berendt. We are confident that Rabbi Gottlieb’s vast educational experience will position our beloved school for continued growth and excellence.
Other major accomplishments this year included our participation in the PEJE Generations Endowment Program, campus security upgrades, a beautiful makeover to our organic garden, winning the MAAC Division Basketball Conference for Junior Varsity and Varsity Boys, as well as the Youth Football Passing League championship, and raising $130,000 in just 24 hours!
Speaking of experienced educators and excellence, I want to give my warmest thanks to our outgoing Head of School, Rabbi Joshua Einzig. Working closely with parents and staff, Rabbi Einzig ensured that every child’s needs were met and the school played to each child’s strengths. TDSA also benefited from Rabbi Einzig’s skillful hiring of exceptional staff members, including teachers and administrators. We wish him every success.
This coming school year, we are welcoming Rabbi Dr. Elimelech Gottlieb as TDSA’s acting Head of School. A
I am grateful to all of you for your support of Torah Day School. It has been an honor to serve you.

THANK YOU!
From The Development Team MRS. MARCY KALNITZ AND RABBI ELCHANAN SCHULGASSER Thank you for making this another fantastic year for Torah Day School! You’ve heard about our development highlights such as welcoming the Bernstein TDSA Sefer Torah to the school, our Charidy campaign which raised $130,000 in 24-hours, and our recordbreaking annual campaign which raised $200,000 more than last year. And no one will forget our Main Event honoring the Tates, Freedmans and Hillers or the two classrooms that were dedicated by a grateful and lifelong student of the Rabbi Moshe and Leah Hiller. We thought you might also enjoy hearing about some of our other favorite moments from this year:
Men VS Women
In February, two teams of volunteer and professional solicitors challenged each other to a three-week contest to raise money for the Annual Campaign: the men’s team vs. the women’s team. Who raised the most money? All we’ll say is that the winner was Torah Day School!
Will You?
Three donors have recently notified us that they named TDSA as a beneficiary in their wills. One of the donors has not had contact with the school in many years but as he made out his will, he felt strongly that he wanted TDSA to be part of his legacy.
SSO AMAzing
A plaque went up in our infirmary honoring a SSO donor with words from Aishes Chayil. The donor, a non-Jewish co-worker of one of our parents, has given over $150,000 in SSO gifts over the years!
Charidy Inspires
In 24 hours, the members of our TDSA family, near and far, joined forces to raise $130,000!!! Utilizing phone calls, emails and social media, donors, parents, past students and grandparents were able to connect and support our beloved school. What was special about this campaign was how touched teachers and staff of TDSA were from the outpouring of support from past and current students and families. Thank you!
Kitah K Spreads Simcha
Morah Dena brought the entire kindergarten class to the business office to sing songs and share simcha. There were so many students, they barely fit! Morah Dena wanted the students to see and thank the people whose job it is to help raise money for our beloved school. Im ain kemach ain Torah! (If there is no flour, there is no Torah. Avos 3:21)
Your Gift
Thank you for choosing to make a gift to Torah Day School. We appreciate you and we are grateful to you.

Pitch Perfect The highlight of this year’s PEJE Endowment Leadership training in Boston was a “Shark Tank” competition, where day school teams from around the United States and Canada vied to deliver the most compelling solicitation to a panel of philanthropists. “After Torah Day School made their presentation,” said the development director of a West Coast school, “our only question was who would get second place.” The three-day training event was filled with ideas and best practices for securing schools’ financial stability and matching giving opportunities to donors’ interests. “We are eager to bring our new-found knowledge to our committee and board in Atlanta”, said Marcy Kalnitz. “We look forward to helping TDSA become even more secure in its future.” TDSA is in year one of a three-year legacy and endowment building program to help the future sustainability of Torah

Tax Free IRA Charitable Rollover
The IRA Charitable Rollover allows individuals over age 70½ to directly transfer up to $100,000 per year from an IRA account to TDSA. This transfer counts toward the minimum required distribution rule for IRA accounts, and such distributions are free of both income and estate taxes.
Sponsor the learning of close to 340 students at TDSA. This is a wonderful way to honor the memory of a loved one, wish a refuah shelemah (speedy recovery), or to show your appreciation for a simcha or special occasion. CHESED in ACTION SUPER SUNDAY Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta
TDSA’s seventh and eight graders had quite a presence at the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta’s Super Sunday Phone-a-thon, taking up at least 2/3 of the table space allotted for callers. Our students shone in amazing ways! One student got a larger than usual donation because he was able to speak Hebrew fluently with the person he was soliciting. Three of the students opted to stay for a longer shift because they were so successful in their calls. How’s that for volunteerism at its finest! For the 5th year in a row, TDSA middle schoolers were presented with the Golden Phone Award and a check for $1000 from Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta. The Golden Phone Award is awarded for having the highest participation of any school on Super Sunday.
GOLDEN PHONE WINNERS 5th Year!
Berman Commons Thank you to Berman Commons for hosting our students on several occasions this year. When the kindergarten children walked into the Berman House, you could see the smiles spread across the many residents’ faces as they were regaled with Rosh Hashana cheer. Our Middle School boys had a class Shabbaton in Dunwoody and the afternoon activity was to visit Berman Commons. Our young men actively greeted the residents and engaged them in conversation; they played games with them; spoke to them about their lives and about religion; and they even sang and danced with them. Our students truly enjoyed their visit. For Purim, our 7th grade girls brought mishloach manot and Purim joy. The girls, in their lovely and fun costumes, delighted the residents. Thank you Berman Commons for hosting us!
SPREADING PURIM joy!
Hunger Walk Team TDSA turned out for the Hunger Walk on Sunday, March 13th. Although it looked like the sky might open up with a thunderstorm, we stayed dry and the breeze made the walk most enjoyable. TDSA raised $1,746 to help feed the hungry. The money we raised could provide 6,984 meals or, to look at it another way, we provided four families of four people dinner for over three months. What a great pre-Purim activity. Way to go, TDSA!
HUNGER WALK fun!
