Medical Checkup – Probably the most important step to ensure the safety of seniors planning to travel is have a general checkup with his doctor. Immunization – You might want to get vaccinated before you go. Vaccines against yellow fever, hepatitis and cholera might be necessary or proposed. The type of vaccine may vary depending on the place where are you going. Also make sure that you have a global immunization card with you, so that you do have a knowledge what antibodies have given to you. In the event of yellow fever, some travel agents may confirm that you have undergo a vaccination. Without it, there are instances that you cannot leave or enter the country you are planning to visit. Transportation – There are instances that you will need to commute a public transport to get to one place to another. And sometimes they deemed to be dangerous especially for the seniors. For instance, in Thailand and Indonesia there are some drivers who travels beyond the speed limit. For the reason that they want to bring you to your place of destination as quickly as possible so they can come back again and take more tourists. Seniors should watch out for these kind of drivers. The first time they go beyond the normal speed have them notified. You can also ask your hotel or vacation rental manager if they can arrange some transportation for you.
Avoid being “shiny” – where normal clothes when you are traveling to a foreign country and avoid wearing jewelries. The reason behind is that you shouldn’t catch the attention of burglars and other mischievous individual. Also never flash your tablets, luxury smartphones or laptops in a public area. Doing such things will make you an easy target for burglars. If possible go with other groups or organization, because majority of seniors who travel alone are the target of these people. Let them know where you are – If you are traveling, be it a weekend trip or vacation abroad, make sure that you have notified your family or love ones of your whereabouts. Not only to give them a peace of mind but also to ensure that they know who or where to call should a problem or an issue unfolds.
