Orchha, the hidden emerald of India, is situated in the northern part of the Tikamgarh district in the Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh. It has a history dating back to the 6th century BCE and was home to several generations of Bundelas, Rajputs and Mughals. The Mughals and the Bundelas played a major role in the development of the hidden town by constructing fortified structures like the Raja Mahal, Jahangir Mahal, Sheesh Mahal and tombs like the Chhatris for the Bundels kings. Many temples were built that carried their original histories, such as Chaturbhuj Temple, Ram Raja Temple and Laxinarayan Temple. The streets also offer the essence of the two through the sale of local handicrafts and flowers and fruits.
