A FESTIVAL OF TRADITIONAL MUSIC, SONG & DANCE www.kilkennytradfest.com
welcome/fáilte
to Kilkenny Tradfest 2018
A Chairde, Mar Chathaoirleach choiste Tradfest ba mhaith liom fáilte is fiche a fhearaibh romhat go dtí priomhchathair méanaoiseach na hEireann agus ceiliúradh cheoil Tradfest 2018. As Chairperson of the Tradfest committee I would like to extend a warm welcome to You to the medieval capital of Ireland and the great celebration of music that is ‘Tradfest 2018’. Looking back over the past six years of this fledgling festival, we are amazed at the world names, emerging talent and incredible musicians that have lightened our hearts through the medium of music. This year is no different. As we evolve as a festival, we are endeavouring to broaden the content towards contemporary folk as well as the best in Irish traditional music and song. So too are we conscious of the great musicians who live and play here in Kilkenny and You will get to hear many of these on the Bulmers Music Trail. Since our last festival the music and arts community has lost one of its great champions; Willie Meighan, promoter, record store and label owner at Rollercoaster. We celebrate his life and legacy with a seisiúin mór during the festival. Of course Tradfest doesn’t take place in isolation. It runs complementary to our St Patrick’s Day Festival celebrations; a natural harmony in the order of things celebrating our National feast day. Our committee is grateful to Marian Flannery and her team, our sponsors, Bulmers, Kilkenny City Vintners, Kilkenny County Council and all who collaborate to make stuff happen all the time in Kilkenny. So we hope that you enjoy the heady mix of concerts, sessions and workshops all set against a backdrop of the medieval and now festival capital of Ireland. Let the music keep your spirits high! Is mise, Malcolm Cllr Malcolm Noonan, Cathaoirleach Coiste TradFest COMMITTEE: Cllr Malcolm Noonan (Chairperson), Joe Reidy, Martin Bridgeman, Brendan Treacy, Martin Coughlan. TEAM: Marian Flannery (Director) Roisín O’Brien (Assistant) WINNER OF IMRO BEST SMALL LIVE MUSIC FESTIVAL AWARD 2016

WILLIE RYAN’S BAR, FRIARY ST. THURSDAY 15TH MARCH TIME: 9.30PM
Willie Meighan was a one-man powerhouse of all things music, culture and the arts in Kilkenny for many years. His untimely passing late last year robbed us of a great friend but also a passionate advocate for music in Ireland and Irish music. To celebrate his life and legacy, Tradfest hosts a night of music led by the wonderful ‘Whiskers of Lichen’ and friends of Willie’s from across the music scene in KIlkenny. Join us for what will be an emotional night carried high by great music and song. TICKETS: www.kilkennytradfest.com or Rollercoaster Records, Kieran Street, Kilkenny
