GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE – STUDENTS/PARENTS Raising a Concern Queenwood recognises the importance of the relationship between home and school. The purpose of this procedure is to provide a student or parent with the opportunity to have a concern raised with through the correct channels, and dealt with in a timely manner. The process aims to promote the resolution of the grievance by prompt and effective discussion. Matters of a very serious nature such as unlawful actions should be directed immediately to the Principal. In all other cases the parent or student should follow Steps One – Three as shown on the flow chart. When you raise a concern please be aware that: 

If a concern is made about a student or staff member, that person will be informed of the nature and content of the grievance and have the right to respond.

Discussions of grievances are confidential.

All grievances, the actions taken to resolve them and the outcomes, will be documented by the School.

Anonymous complaints will not be dealt with.

All people involved in the grievance are entitled to support.

The person to whom the complaint is directed will consult all the parties and attempt to resolve the grievance by negotiation.

Parent or Student Grievances Step One 

Identify the nature of the grievance. If the grievance is to do with teaching or student progress, then the concern should first be directed to the classroom teacher in the Junior School or classroom teacher and/or Head of Department in the Senior School. If the complaint is pastoral in nature, the complaint should be first directed to the classroom teacher in the Junior School or Year Co-ordinator.

Step Two 

If the complaint is not resolved in Step One, the teacher or Head of Department/ Year Co-ordinator or the parent or student may refer it to the Deputy Principal or Assistant Principal Junior School.

The Deputy Principal or Assistant Principal Junior School will attempt to resolve the grievance by negotiation.

Step Three 

If the concern is still not resolved, the parent/student may make an appointment to discuss the grievance with the Principal at a time mutually convenient. The Deputy Principal may also be in attendance and submit a report in writing.

Step Four 

If matters still remain unresolved you have the right to seek arbitration through the courts, legal representation and other government commissions. This may entail some financial cost to you.
