JUNIOR SCHOOL CURRICULUM COORDINATOR Position Description Role Description The Junior School Curriculum Coordinator will be responsible for leading aspects of the Junior School academic program. He/She will work collaboratively with classroom and specialist subject teachers to review and evaluate existing curriculum and provide support for the design, implementation and administration of programs for the K-6 Curriculum. In addition, he/she will be responsible for leading a quality teaching team aligned to a K - 12 quality teaching framework. The role also includes ongoing evaluation of practices in assessment, feedback and reporting. This is a 0.8FTE position for five years and attracts a Leadership Position Level 2 Allowance. Reporting Relationship The Junior School Curriculum Coordinator is responsible ultimately to the Principal in all aspects of the position and directly to the Assistant Principal Junior School. On a day-to-day basis, s/he will work closely with the Director of Curriculum 7-12, the Head of Specialised Programs and Junior School teaching staff. The Junior School Curriculum Co-ordinator will lead the Junior School’s team of teachers focusing on differentiation and quality teaching. Role Responsibilities
Inspire and drive the design and implementation of an innovative curriculum that is rigorous, challenging, significant and relevant to the needs of all students in the Junior School Lead the process of developing, reviewing and evaluating all K-6 programs and scope and sequence documents, ensuring clear horizontal and vertical articulation Ensure that programs include skills such as collaboration, communication, problemsolving, digital literacy, higher order critical and creative thinking, alongside the delivery of explicit instruction as appropriate Ensure the inclusion and assessment of all NSW BOSTES Syllabus objectives within curriculum documents, including cross-curricular priorities Provide leadership within the Junior School in developing outstanding pedagogy, deepening the professional knowledge and skills of teachers and increasing their understanding and confidence with new and effective teaching strategies Work in a hands-on way with classroom teachers to promote, develop and embed effective, research-based teaching strategies Provide practical advice and assistance to teachers which supports them in developing and sharing innovative approaches and best practice in the classroom Continually update and develop own and fellow teachers’ expert disciplinary and pedagogical knowledge in all areas of the curriculum

Work closely with Head of Specialised Programs and Catalyst Coordinator to develop best practice in programming and teaching to support students with specific learning needs Establish and maintain procedures for the recording of all planning documentation, checklists and tracking documents, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations Lead grade, stage and specialist teaching teams in the development of a curriculum that supports exemplary teaching and learning practices Ensure that all programs are rich and engaging. Collaborate with the Director of Curriculum and HoDs in the Senior School to promote continuity in academic programs between the Junior and Senior School Work with the JS Digital Integrator to incorporate use of technology into programs in ways that have been shown to promote effective learning. Advise on the purchase of resources to assist with curriculum implementation Organise procedures for assessment and moderation, ensuring that formal reports accurately reflect the BOSTES grading scales Provide training and support in the implementation, review and evaluation of all K-6 programs Provide support for school-based action research on curriculum innovation Analyse the School’s results from NAPLAN, UNSW ICAS, Robert Allwell testing and any other assessment tools, to identify areas for development and recommendations for improvement Track student progress Work closely with the Director of Curriculum to develop a transition to senior school program for Year 6 students Create parent curriculum guides for each year level in the Junior School Undertake such other duties as the Principal or Assistant Principal Junior School may direct
Key Competencies
Extensive knowledge of BOSTES syllabus documents and of pedagogical principles Deep understanding of the way in which BOSTES syllabuses connect to one another across subjects and grade levels Experience in curriculum planning and evaluation at K-6 level An understanding of, and ability to use, effective curriculum planning models Demonstrated skills in collecting, analysing and reporting on large-scale data at school, stage, grade and individual student levels for planning purposes Capacity to contribute to the development of the professional practice of classroom teachers and leadership in the achievement of quality teaching A thorough understanding of change management and the ability to engage colleagues to bring about sustained change in curriculum design and teacher practice A capacity to think strategically and analytically to contribute to positive educational outcomes Ability to work collaboratively with teachers to create a school culture which encourages open communication, collaboration and creative problem-solving
