Music Assistant Position Description Role Description The Music Assistant will support the Head of Music (Senior School campus) and Director of Junior School Music (Junior School campus) with the ongoing operation of the Music Department. In addition the Music Assistant will provide support to music staff and perform administrative duties in the management of the co-curricular music program, including peripatetic tutors, private music lessons and ensembles. This is a permanent part time position (3 days a week) during Term time only commencing in Term 1, 2017. Reporting Relationship The Music Assistant is ultimately responsible to the Principal in all aspects of the position and directly responsible to the Head of Music. Role Responsibilities The following list is indicative of the responsibilities attached to the role. The Principal may assign additional duties from time to time. The candidate will:  

   

Provide administrative and clerical support to the Head of Music and the Director of Junior School Music Liaise with peripatetic music tutors and provide administrative and clerical support for co-curricular music lessons, school ensembles, student rolls, peripatetic tutor timetables, fortnightly timesheets and semester reports Facilitate Music Department communication and publications between staff, tutors, students and parents; including emails, phone calls, newsletters, concert programs, calendars and other internal and external communication Maintain accurate records of student and ensemble lists, instrument and classroom resources, printed/online music resources and the music library Oversee the administration of the instrumental hire program, including invoicing and processing of hire fees Arrange for maintenance and repairs of music department resources Order equipment, music and other resources as requested by the Head of Music and/or Director of Junior School Music, maintain stores of music specific paraphernalia and stationery, and liaise with the Business Office to process orders, invoices and payments Organise Music Department events and functions and assist staff in the planning and implementation of concerts and performances Develop instructional and procedural material to support peripatetic music tutors, classroom music teachers and other administrative and clerical staff at the school

A desire to be part of an active music department that strives to foster in young people a love of music An ability to be proactive, problem-solving, self-directed, and to work as part of a collegial team Experience in music administration and clerical support Advanced IT skills, including the use of Microsoft Office, Google Docs, OneDrive, Optimo Music Software and be willing to learn how to use the Canvas database Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including high level accuracy and attention to detail – including spelling and grammar An ability to prioritise and meet tight deadlines An ability to deal tactfully with staff, students and parents Appropriate qualifications and eligibility to teach under the requirements of NSW law and School policy Ability and willingness to evaluate and critically reflect upon own professional practice Commitment to educational excellence and an empathy with the ethos and ideals of Queenwood
