DESIGN PRODUCT CREATING AN ICONIC OBJECT (LAMP) FOR PRODUCTION // #CreativeFreedom Most lamps are boring. Most lamps, but not all. To create a unique object needs thorough research about its affect on people and to touch an emotion which the interactor has not experienced before. Understanding the incessant desire in humans to connect with nature, I decided to design the object using organic rock salt lamp found in the himalayas.

DESIGN RESEARCH
Market Research revealed to me about little innovation happening on these organic lamps and what exists, spoils the natural form by machining them into super modern geometric forms. Another observation showed that rock lamps aren’t being used as floor lamps until now. To me, the ambeint glow coming from the rocks reminds me of the ancient time. It would be an early man’s luxury if it existed in those ages. Conclusively, it was finalized to construct a floor lamp which uses the ambient glow from rock lamps as the source of light.

INITIAL CONCEPTS
Initial sketches and CAD resulted in a simple idea of placing the rock lamp between three spokes emerging from a single trunk like of a tree. Since the lamp heats up negligibly, its spokes can be used to hang keys or coats. Meanwhile, finding out wholesale dealers I was able to find good deal to order the lamp. Simultaneously, I kept refining the design and researching about cost effectiveness to buy an existing lamp or buying lumps and drilling the whole ourselves.

Further, an additional space was added at the bottom to display a beautful vase. These three spokes in seperate direction converge towards the top just to hold the lamp in place at comfertable height.

DESIGN PRODUCT SIDE TABLES FOR AN EXISTING SOFA SET // #ConstraintsWillGuideYouHome As soon as it is justified to me, that a product is worth execution, it becomes my responsibility to get it ready. It requires me work in liason with the production team which comprises of carpenters, metal fabricators, power coating team and polishing team. The same amount of painstaking efforts and thinking is put into every project and at every step as seen in the well-documented case of “Vintage Rock Lamp” previously.

DESIGN CONCEPT COFFEE TABLE FOR LUXURY LIFESTYLE // #LuxorCoffeeTable A coffee table was needed to be conceptualized for an upmarket customer which could fit in the existing interiors naturally. The concept progressed as seen in clockwise rotation starting from the right. Initial concept focused on the aesthetics as well as to make the design flatpack. The top was made in MDF and metal legs provide a distinct character to the table. However, in later stages the customer requested a design which exhibits more strength and did not require it to be flatpack due to their personal choice. As a result, the design was changed and a final concept was converged on.

DESIGN CONCEPT JAPANESE TEA SET DESIGN // #GeometricStools Considering a rise in sense of minimalism emerging in contemporary lifestyles, I designed a space saving and comfortable solution which also acts as a lovely design element into your interiors. I would like to bring to note that these are original designs, well-documented and in process to be patent applicable.

DESIGN PROCESS DEVELOP A FURNITURE PIECE WHICH COMMUNICATES MORE THAN ITS FUNCTION // #ContextualDesign For an object to communicate more than its function requires a meaningful connection or amusement. Being a nature lover, I decided to communicate awareness about depleting aquatic species with a coffee table, the PHIN TABLE.
ENVIRONMENT
WATER
POLLUTION
Communication requires curiosity and the unsusual shape of the coffee table is effective just enough to generate the interest. Usage of Materials: Considering the cause of environment, the only recyclable materials are used, Glass as the table top Stainless steel as the base

DESIGN PROJECT SOLVE A PROBLEM WHILE CONSIDERING CULTURE AND USAGE // #Seating Since an upcoming mexican popup restaurant struggled to find an “easy to assemble seating arrangement, an innovative solution was derived to her unique requirements which are time and space contrained. Regular stacking stools and chairs were unsuitable to Jes, because of the limited height of her van which enabled her to stack only 7 regular stackable chairs in the vehicle. Site Location: Piazza S. Annunziata, Florence, IT (Top Right Image)
Rollable form not only provides the easy assembly to Jes but also helped her stack them flat one on each other in her which enables to save more than 60 percent space than previously. This required a research on the small components of the furniture (similar to the metallic watch strap), which needed several revisions but eventually arriving to a highly efficient solution which the client was really happy with.

DESIGN PROJECT DESIGN AN OBJECT CONSTRAINED TO SPECIFIC AESTHETICS // #Comfort Erik wanted an outdoor firepit to be designed for his interior designing project in Barcelona, Spain. He required it to follow aesthetics of contemporary design and the theme of whole architecture of the building. He provided me with constraints regarding the dimensions and materials.
Image of the building
Suggestive idea presented by client
Two designs were proposed constrained for easy cleaning and maintanence. First design provided client with the ability to adjust the height and number of heating pans depending on the weather. It can also be used for decoration of flower pots outdoors. Second design provided a more aesthetical value and featured the smoke to dissolve in an magical way. Further surface finishes were also visualized after the design was approved by the client.

DESIGN PROJECT Rebranding FDA // #BrandIdentity #GraphicDesign Florence Design Academy (FDA) is a design academy which teaches graphic, interior and industrial design in Florence, Italy. The city is one of the major art and design influenced cities in the world and has a number of quality museums like the Accademia, Uffizi Galleria. While redesigning for the academy, primary focus was on the ideas and art coming to life. Technologies have come and gone, but pencil is a timeless tool for bringing art to life. It has been there since the begining, and it will always stay a symbol of creativity and knowledge. It was nice form to play with. I enjoyed the project.

DESIGN PROJECT MODULAR LIGHTING WHICH ENAGAGES // #PlayfulDesign #Interactive Toy Lamp is modular lighting system which provides stackable units to play with. As per the requirements, user can stack one lamp on another and provide power to one of the units, and the rest light up following principles of electromagnetic physics. 4 circular-tube LEDs light the lamp on 4 sides while the top and bottom provide contact surface for other units. Each unit is insulated and covered with colored plastic while a player of transparent polycarbonate provides it durability for playing with it. It provides users and designers to play with endless possibilities of lighting.

DESIGN CONCEPT ECOLOGICAL DESIGN INNOVATIONS // #EnergyEfficient For designing a Penthouse, it was required to minimize dependence on the grid for environmental concerns. This project provided an opportunity to dive into the technologies of PV panels, rainwater harvesting systems and wind turbines in order to research contraints due to various factors (cost, city etc.) Site Location: Cape Town, SA Area: 1500 sqm
Innovative rooftop design provides a platform to collect water and sunlight
Calculating the water and electricity consumption for 4 people and an analysis about rainfall and daylight hours, an average was derived. The rooftop being a collector of both water and sunlight made the penthouse suffice 79% of the power consumption and a grid positive (>100%) consumption for water usage. At my workplace, I always like to imbibe values which encourage teams to be ecological apart from being efficient and productive.
