Welcome to the sixth annual Auntie Karen’ s Young Entrepreneurs Conference. In 2001, we had a dream to showcase the best young minds in our region. Today you will have a chance to meet some of them. A Chinese proverb reminds us that “ There are many paths to the top of the mountain, but the view is always the same.” Today you will have a chance to hear how our entrepreneurs made it to the top of the mountain. It is my hope that you will start your own journey toward the top. . My Auntie Karen F.A.I.T. H. principles continue to guide my journey to the top. My hope is that you will read and adopt these concepts to your life. (Find a purpose or goal; Ask for help; Invest in your mind; Take time to plan; Help someone else). You will see examples of these principles in action throughout the day! I would like to thank The Auntie Karen Board, the 2008 Conference Committee, Volunteers and Sponsors for making this day possible. We spent months organizing this day especially for you!!! Stephen Love is a native of York, SC. He is the son of Rev. and Mrs. Stephen L. Love, Sr. This young entrepreneur’s interests in videography and entrepreneurship has led to the establishment of his own company called Love’s Scene Productions. He is a sophomore honor student at Marlboro County High School in Bennettsville, SC. He has been a part of the Marlboro County Media Literacy program since 2000. It was in this program that his interest in videography was developed. In 2004 he began recording weddings, social events and church functions in local and surrounding communities. Stephen has expanded Love’s Scene Productions to include business advertisement (business cards, commercials, public service announcements, etc.), and video greetings.

Jordan started competing in pageants at 5 months old. During her four years in pageantry, she was awarded several National Awards and also International Awards. She left the pageantry world to pursue modeling and dancing. Jordan has been involved with ballet since four years old to the present. She has also received awards for runway competition which she loves to do. Jordan loves to be at the center of attention whenever possible and has turned this passion into a business, Jordan Kelley, Inc. Jordan can be seen gracing the box of Beautiful Beginnings, a national ad campaign for Soft Sheen Carson.

Stephen has received an award from Merrill Lynch® as one of its young entrepreneurs for 2005. H e was one of the first four entrepreneurs ever to receive this award. He is the 2007 Auntie Karen Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

Sisters Tiffanie, Twana and Victoria Williams are the members of Triple Threat, a hip hop dance team. They along with Chestina Perry are the owners of Drive Safe. The company makes magnetic signs for cars with the message of urging drivers to be patient. The idea for the business came when Chestina was learning how to drive and encountered other drivers making angry comments and gestures. While using the product for her safety, it gained attention from many other motorists, parents and teenagers. There was such a demand from other parents and teenagers to obtain the product, she convinced her parents to open a business to allow other teenagers to experience the benefits of driving in a safer and more controlled environment. Her goal was to help eliminate the possibility of fatalities, stress, anxiety and road rage associated with learning how to drive.

2008 Young Entrepreneurs Kristina Morales

Kristina Morales, SAKURA by Kristina

Kristina Morales (14), a freshman at Dreher High School, has always had an interest in drawing and is mostly self-taught. She is currently working on a Manga comic book; drawing inspiration from Japanese anime and her own ideas. Part of the fun of creating her characters includes designing their fashions. SAKURA (Japanese for cherry blossom) by Kristina was founded in 2007 with five designs, and debuted at the Gospel & Fashion Explosion, a Sharon Robinson, The Diva Hair Weaver, production. Her initial designs, named after the models, from Sharon Robinson Models & Talent, are: Arabia, Chelsea, Jaylin, Autumn and Osianna; and are showcased on her website www.sakurabykristina. com. These items, sewn by Laura’s Touch, are available for purchase and can be customized with the fabric of your choosing. Kristina, born in San Diego, CA, also plays the French horn, mellophone and piano. She is taking French and has traveled internationally to Mexico, Canada, Bahamas and Jamaica; where she attended the 2008 Caribbean Fashion Week. An avid reader, her hobbies also include origami, anime and computer gaming.

Eric Richardson Five - 5ths

Eric Richardson was born on February 27, 1987 in Houston, Texas. He resides in Pontiac, Michigan with his mother, Rosie, and twin sister, Reaya. Eric is a Senior at Benedict College in Columbia, SC. Eric has had many visions in his lifetime. Now that he’s in college, he feels it is time to bring them to fruition. From establishing a mentoring program to executing custom clothing and screen-prints, Eric is overly motivated to succeed! He wants to succeed not just for his self but to affect the world through his actions and by the message in his visual art works. Brendalyn Reaves Earthly Elegance by Lynn Brendalyn Reaves, a 21 year old native of Florence, SC, started her own jewelry business called Earthly Elegance by Lynn. Critics describe her jewelry as having an earthly elegance with a casual flare. She is currently seeking a bachelor's degree at Columbia College in Columbia, SC. She is a junior majoring in Studio Art and Art Education. She plans to continue educating her pasion by a Master's in Jewelry Making.

Shannon Patterson Caramel Explosion

Shannon Patterson is a 15 year old tenth grader at Spring Valley High School. She is originally from Washington, D.C. but has been living in Columbia since 1998. She has been interested in cooking, and making different recipes better. Recently, Shannon started her own popcorn business called, “Caramel Explosion.” While she was in the 8th grade, her English class was assigned to make a power point presentation about what we wanted our careers to be. Since she enjoyed cooking, she decided to make her career a professional chef. During the project, she handed out samples of her homemade caramel popcorn. Since then, it has been a hit! Shannon has made it for her family and friends and they always asking her when will she make more. Shannon would like a career in hospitality management, along with a career in sports management. 2008 Young Entrepreneurs Marvolus

Sergio Hudson

On September 29, 1984 perfection was born in the form of a baby boy named, Anree Sherrills. Anree, aka Marvolus, lived fatherless with no hometown to claim as his own due to constant migration from Okinawa, Japan to California, Georgia, North Carolina, and finally settling in various towns in South Carolina. Marv can remember freestyling and battling at the age of twelve through the inspiration of his older cousin, Zapp. With no idea of whom his father was and an outcast of his family, Marvolus found traditional school to be a problem and traditional school had a problem with him. Resiliency and determination guided him to Job Corp to earn his GED where he won several talent shows, thus realizing that hip-hop was the vehicle he needed for self expression. From South Carolina (South Crack) emerges Marvolus, a hungry unsigned artist with his own independent label, R.P.M (Real Powerful Music). Sergio Hudson was born Daniel Sergio LaVeil Hudson Jr. On April 12, 1984 in Columbia SC to Daniel and Sheldon Hudson. He knew at an early age that he wanted to be a high fashion designer. Being influenced by a mother who was a tailor and a sister who was a very successful model Sergio had no other choice but to fall in love with the fashion industry. By the age of ten he already was designing gowns for his mother’s clients. Sergio is currently working on his first fall/winter collection which is set to go to production this February. He also is styling for two upcoming movies, and also working on artist styling for a high profile R&B group. Sergio plans to advance his brand to expand the whole southeast within the next five years the whole world in ten. He has accomplished much at his young age, but acknowledges that his plan will be an up hill battle that has never been done in this way before. He is ready for the challenge with a sturdy work ethic and a rod iron will. He plans to take the fashion world by storm. When once asked do you think that southern women will ever accept such a high fashion tailored look he was quoted as saying “they have no choice” Sergio is truly a gift to the fashion industry with a bright future ahead of him.

Anree Sherrills, Hip Hop Artist

Zakiya Up and coming artist Zakiya (Rashida Beach) from Columbia, SC has built a reputation through out the southeast as a singer and dancer. Since the age of three. She embraces all forms of music, from One Republic to the inspirational voice of Lauryn Hill. With a jazzy spunk and pop appeal, Zakiya sparks the attention of crowds young and old. Zakiya has performed at the Apollo in South Carolina. She was also awarded 2nd place in the Omega talent hunt where singers between the ages of thirteen through eighteen compete for recognition and an opportunity to advance in their careers. She also won the Dillard’s karaoke competition as well as the Black Expo shining star competition in 2008. Prior to becoming the 1st runner up of Palmetto Idol, she performed with the for the American Idol. Zakiya’s goal is to encourage and inspire other young artists through her passion for music. She is often said to be a mix between Alicia Keys and Beyonce, with the jazz/reggae appeal of Jill Scott and Lauryn Hill. Zakiya continues to be open-minded as she learns more about the industry and becoming a successful entertainer. Henderson Michael Lane Palmetto Goods Henderson Michael Lane, II is 21 years of age and is fondly known as “Mike” by his friends and family. Mike recently started his own business, Palmetto Goods. He was inspired to start the company after designing a special logo and auto sticker that he believed would signify and promote pride in the Palmetto State. Mike learned of his own affinity and talent for design after experimental use of a design software program. After discovering creative gems in the design software along with his passion for anything to do with cars, Mike has decided to pursue a degree in industrial engineering at the Savannah School of Art and Design. Mike also plans to extend his line of palmetto inspired goods beyond the auto sticker to various personal and wearable items. 2008 Young Entrepreneurs 308 Boys

13 year-old Brittbone and 11 yearold Lil’ Babyboy are the hardest middle schoolers stepping up to the microphone. The two Columbia, SC brothers write their own lyrics, pushing themselves hard to keep their music clean, fresh, and fun. They’re backed by an experienced production team including Columbia producers Zake, Venom Vendetta, and their father Barry “FlyGuy” Reed Brittbone & Lil’ Babyboy have no fear in the booth or on stage. They pride themselves on their energetic live set, and have performed shows across the South, where they opened for artists including Pretty Ricky, JR Get Money, and Fabo. They are also the youngest artists to ever perform at T.I.’s Club Crucial in Atlanta. 308 Boyz have found a loyal following on MySpace. Their passionate fans all over the world helped the Big Ole Rimz music video reach 1 on the MySpace Music Video Chart in November 07. DJs from Columbia, Texas, Philly, and Germany have been spinning Big Ole Rimz. Both brothers are members of their school chorus and play drums in the school band. 308 Boyz are scheduled to finish up their debut album in late 2008. PREACH Preach, Hip Hop Artist For some people, Hip-Hop is simply a way to make ends meet, but every once in a while, you come across an artist who exhibits raw, unrelenting love and passion for the art-form; they don’t just make hip-hop, they breathe it. In that sense, Preach embodies the HipHop culture. “I feel that Hip-Hop has always existed, but it wasn’t until the mid-70s when it was diagnosed.…” Through his music, he wants to remind his listeners of a time when black people were proud of being themselves. His music possesses a sense of pride that’s reminiscent of that era — the black “soul power” movement. He wants to put the power back into the people who actually make the music. Preach feels as if the cultural aspect of Hip-Hop is often sacrificed for capitalistic gain. In contrast, he has the culture’s best interest at heart and wants to continue strengthening his Hip-Hop community as much as possible. For more info: http://preach2em.net .

The Pretty Boy Associates (P.B.A) started in the Spring of 2006 in the depths of Irmo High School in Columbia, South Carolina. P.B.A was formed by its creator and leader known as Reese Fla$hy. From the buzz created about the associates’ existence, members were soon and steadily added to the squadron. It is now and always was an organization for the “above average looking guys”. It successfully matured into a thriving group of individuals consisting of; various ages, artistry, varsity athletes, trend setters and academic overachievers. Before long P.B.A obtained members who were quite crafty in the art of rhyming as an addition to its many talents, thus the journey was set in motion. Pretty Boy Associates consists of band members Reese Fla$hy, Cash, Siggy, Castro (Craq Boy C), B. Right, Fresh Prince (LeLe), Smeegol Millz, Kurtiss, Dini, Vigga, J5 and D. Freshington. They are currently protégés of the legendary DJ Prince Ice and being managed by “a mogul in the making”, Tami L. McLemore known to P.B.A as “Wonder Woman”. This powerhouse combo is assisting P.B.A with the necessary ingredients for being successful. These talented young men acknowledge that chivalry is not dead, taking pride in your appearance, utilizing your talents while pursuing one’s dreams and education is a must. Influenced by artists such as; The Holy Trinity, Pharrell Williams, Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, Swiss Beats, Cassidy, Quincy Jones and each other. 2008 Young Entrepreneurs/Speakers Michael A. Williams

Mario McClean

Michael A. Williams is the son of Michael & Celeste Williams. Michael has been trained by Mrs. Robin Jackson and her Arts In Action Staff since he was four years old. At the age of six Michael was a member of the cast “Peter Pan” which performed in the Town Theatre, he has since sang and performed in varies school and church plays and programs. Michael was selected to attend the SC Governor’s School of the Arts and Humanities Summer Program in 2008. Recently he was selected to participate in Brookland’s Teen Idol Gospel competition. Michael was also a featured vocalist on WIS TV’s Awareness Show. Michael is a member of Brookland Baptist Church where he sings on the Teens In Praise Choir and he is a member of Boy Scouts Troop #74, he is presently a Life Scout. As a young child Michael sang on the Brookland Baptist Youth Choir and participated in Children’s’ Church. Michael is a SC Junior Scholar, a Sophomore at Blythewood High School, where he majors in The Performing Arts, he studies music, sang on the School Chorus.

Mario McClean has been loving and making music since he was a little boy. He grew up in a musical family of four, where my sister, father, mother and all enjoyed singing. Ever since the age of 10, he has played the piano by ear and recently picked up the guitar. Mario is a singer/song writer attending Midlands Technical College and plans to transfer to North Carolina School of the Arts to major in theater.

Donna Daniels Donna Daniels has more than 30 years experience in the area of advertising, marketing and promotions. Her career includes working for leading radio stations in Los Angeles, CA, Atlanta, GA and Columbia, SC. She has also worked in the capacity of Director of Marketing for a prominent non-profit agency in Los Angeles and was the lead on many successful community based programs to support the homeless community and at-risk youth. Donna is currently a Senior Marketing Manager for WXBT-FM 100.1 “The Beat”. She is the mother of 3 sons and 2 grands.

Tre Tailor Tre Tailor is the down to earth sista with the magnetic smile and jovial personality weekdays from 10-2 on 98.5 Kiss Fm-WLXC. She is the face and voice of several TV commercials! After the onset of the State Lottery, Tre’ was chosen as the exclusive Pick 3 and Pick 4 Announcer for statewide NBC affiliate WIS. Recently Tre’ has been given the opportunity to spread her wings beyond the Carolina’s, as a featured entertainment reporter on the Fantastic Voyage for the Nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show. “He almost had to give me something to do… and I thought it was going to be jail time! “ I kind of stalked Tom, for a year, talking to him at every Sky Show and Event and writing him too, pitching ideas, sending tapes of myself, telling him how much I wanted to do some work for him! Persistence paid off, before it turned into Pain!

Shennice Cleckley

Shennice Cleckley believes in working her passion of books and chocolate! In July 2005, the Columbia native, affectionately known as “The Chocolate Lady”, opened her first dessert location, called “Literary Sweets” in Northeast Columbia. In 2007 she moved to North Main Street in Historic Eau Claire. Shennice is an advocate of community service and donates her time and efforts to empower the community spirit. Empowering women and entrepreneurs is another one of her many passions. She is the co-founder of Meeting of the Minds Women’s Empowerment Collaborative, a forum designed to empower, impact and grow all organizations centered on women. Through her agency, The Idea Boutique, Shennice mentors clients with strategies and programs in the area of public relations, marketing and special events. Her civic and business memberships include Women In Philanthropy, Women’s Missionary Society, SCACDC Public Policy Commitee and Chamber of Commerce Diversity Committee. Shennice resides in Columbia with her husband LeBrian, and their three children Adrienne, Kiersten, and Jared.

2008 Speakers Greg Leevy

Jo Jo English

Greg Leevy has been in charge of the Alumni and Diversity Affairs Office at The SC Governors School for the Arts since its inception in 2006. He has been on the summer drama faculty since 1999, serving as Chair of Summer Academy Drama, then Chair of Summer Discovery Drama, for most of those years. Mr. Leevy has a music and theatre background. A self-taught pianist, he began playing at school functions in his early teens. He subsequently achieved the distinction of becoming the first African-American accompanist for the Wofford College Glee Club, which was his first paid position in the arts. Mr. Leevy earned an English degree from Wofford.

Stephen English, better known as “JoJo” is from Columbia, South Carolina. His nickname “JoJo” became a household word in the late 80’s when he played for Lower Richland High School and the school became state champions twice. He competed against the famous Michael Jordan in Dunk contest to a sold out Carolina Coliseum during the summer of ’88. “JoJo” played at USC from 1988-1992 and finished #9 on the all time scoring list. He led USC in scoring final three seasons. He was one of ten players ever to do so at USC. At the end of his college career, he held five records.

He is a member of the Screen Actors Guild, and has appeared in the feature films Denmark Vesey: A House Divided, Separate But Equal, Simple Justice, and The Inkwell, among others, the television series In The Heat Of The Night, and a number of industrials. He is a popular voiceover artist who can be heard on radio, television, the internet, and even on historic site tours.

He is now the head coach of the 2005 13 and under girls AAU State champion lady 76er’s, Head coach of the 2006 14 and under AAU State champion lady 76er’s 2005-present; Head J. V. Boys basketball coach & Basketball Conditioning coach for the Lower Richland High School basketball program.

Loranda Melton Loranda Melton is a Marketing teacher at Heyward Career and Technology Center. She also serves as the DECA (an association of Marketing Students) Advisor of the HCTC chapter. Mrs. Melton teaches Marketing Management, Sports and Entertainment Marketing, and General Marketing to 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students. Prior to teaching, she worked for NCR Corporation where she was responsible for numerous programs from inception to deployment. Her industry experience at NCR and AT&T spans product management, strategic planning, program management, and training. She was the program manager for several cross function teams responsible for full stream life-cycle product development projects.

From 1992-1994, he played in the CBA (Continental Basketball Association), the official development league of the NBA. He was selected to the CBA All Rookie First team, one of the first two rookies to get called up to the NBA [Bulls] - the Chicago Bulls.

Krystel D. Reid Krystel D. Reid, a 23 year old native from Charleston, SC believes that ‘everyone can be great because everyone can serve’. It is with this passion of public service that Krystel has worked tirelessly over the last five years from Capitol Hill to local communities to advocate on behalf of people that would not have a voice in our governmental system. Krystel is the Principal & CEO of Capitol Consulting Strategies, LLC---a political consulting company based in Columbia, SC. Her company provides consultation in the areas of Governmental Relations, Campaign Management, Advocacy Training and Contract Procurement. Capitol Consulting Strategies, LLC specializes in providing tailored consultation through “Bold and Innovative Solutions” to clients needs.

Krystel earned a Bachelor’s of Arts with a Major in PolitiMs. Melton received her B.S. in Math and Computer Science cal Science and a Minor in Social Work from the University of South Carolina in May of 2007 and completed from South Carolina State University, and her MBA from training from Fortune Academy of Real Estate to earn a Webster University. Real Estate License in January of 2007.

A creative aptitude was Elizabeth’s Ashlye V. Clark, known to her at a very early age, and for over readers as Ashlye V. Rumphtwenty five years she has been a Geddis, is a native of Columnon- traditional artist.
