With over 20 years of experience pioneering sustainability in design and environmental stewardship, this project achieved LEED Platinum certification through intelligent green design. Located on the corner of Pennsylvania and 12th Street, the house occupies a lot-and-a-half allowing for a design that could not be accomplished in the traditional lot width of East Lawrence. 1200 Pennsylvania utilized the lot-and-a-half size by creating a courtyard and extruding two forms east and west to maximize the home’s southern exposure utilizing passive solar design. This layout incorporates a courtyard overlooking a bioswale. Every room within the house has views that focus on these two elements. The interior of 1200 Pennsylvania brings the outside in. This was accomplished with large fenestrations on the South and North sides of the living room. These windows not only provide views out to the courtyard and 12th street respectively but also allow cross ventilation through space. Courtesy of Studio 804

Location The University of Kansas Area 18,900 SF Role Group Project Master Plan Proposals Site Analysis and Synthesis Concept Evolution, Design Development, Wall section details, and Presentation Concept The purpose of the project was to create an environment conducive to the collaboration and sustainability research, while intertwining the mechanics of nature with the built environment. The concept was to have a good connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. The two forms with an interconnecting greenhouse have a terraced plaza in the enclosed space. The Petals of the Living Building Challenge and the Ecomachine were the main features of the sustainable design. The aim was to have a net-positive energy building.

Mixed- Use Facility, Downtown Lawrence, Kansas
Location Downtown Lawrence, KS Role Individual Project Master Plan Proposals Site analysis and Synthesis Concept Evolution, Design Development and Presentation Concept The idea was to retrofit an old building and depict the fusion between the existing and the new through materials and structure. The inspiration was taken from the private mansions in India, called ‘Havelis’, which have a central courtyard with fountains and greenery. They also have features like ‘Jaalis’ or screens, ‘Jharokhas’ or semi-enclosed balconies that help in regulating the temperature in the building.

A Holistic Development Center for the Visually Impaired, Delhi
Location Dwarka, Delhi, India Area 13,100 SF Role Individual Project Site Analysis and Synthesis Concept Evolution, Design Development and Presentation Concept This project required a good understanding of the psychology of the user in all aspects of design- the building form, the landscape, the site features, the interiors, the lighting, anthropometrics, special provisions for the users, etc. For the visually impaired, everything beyond their reach is at infinity until they sense using the other senses of touch, hearing and smell. The aim of this project is to break the psychological infinity. The site features play a very important role in creating a comfortable environment for the users. This project has a plaza including a sensory garden, water features and green spaces.

Ortho and Spinal Hospital, Delhi
Location Hauz Khas, Delhi, India Role Individual Project Site analysis and Synthesis Concept Evolution, Urban Design Development and Presentation Concept The idea was to create a low rise building to have minimal vertcal circulation and have maximum acces to the oudoors. The provision of green environment around the building blocks would help in better recovery for the patients. The division of spaces is based on the different hours during which they are used. The outpatient department is located separate from the inpatient department to avoid any disturbance for the patients admitted in the hospital. Similarly, the kitchen is in a different building. For the emergency unit, a different site and building entry has been provided. The hospital has ADA facilities including ramps and elevators, natural ventilation, use of local materials, residetial units for the staff and green buffers between the site and the roads. There is also a research department on the second level where practical training could be provided to the medical interns.
