Our Story

KAS was founded in 1981 by Rao Yarlagadda and his wife Kas, the namesake of the company. Together, they started KAS as a small importer selling Indian Dhurries and quickly became known as a forerunner in color and design trends. Being a family business, we’ve always retained a small company atmosphere while continually building our infrastructure to support our expanding customer base. At KAS, we provide personal attention to every customer that has joined us on this journey in revolutionizing home design trends and making homes more stylish than ever. Longstanding relationships and extensive product breadth has always defined our leading market position and continues to drive us forward.

ROOM SIZE GUIDE - selecting the right size rug

LIVING ROOM

Selecting a rug size for your living room depends on the room size and arrangement of your furniture.

5’ x 8’

ALL LEGS OFF THE RUG

The most popular size for living rooms. In smaller living spaces or when you prefer to keep all legs off the rug, a 5’ x 8’ rug works best. With only the coffee table placed in the center of the rug, this leaves a spacious and airy yet complete living room.

8’ x 10’

FRONT LEGS ON THE RUG

Most commonly, people choose to put all front legs of their furniture on the rug while leaving the back legs off. The 8’ x 10’ size brings all pieces in the room together and creates a complete look.

9’ x 12’

ALL LEGS ON THE RUG

In a larger living room, a 9’ x 12’ rug with all furniture on the rug pulls the room together and will create a warm and inviting living space.

DINING ROOM

The most common mistake in your dining room is choosing a rug that is too small. The key to rug selection for your dining room is that the rug should be big enough for your chair legs to sit comfortably on the rug when pulled out for people to sit. A common standard is to look for a rug that extends 2 feet on each side of the table.

FOUR PERSON TABLE

A 5’ x 8’ rug is most commonly paired with a small dining table that seats four people.

8’ x 10’, 9’ x 12’

ALL LEGS ON THE RUG

The larger the table, the larger the rug. Under a table for six to eight people, you will most likely need to have an 8’ x 10’ or 9’ x 12’ in order to keep all legs on the rug.

6’-8’ Round

FOUR TO SIX PERSON TABLE

Round rugs are ideal under round tables, but be sure the round rug you choose is large enough. Rectangle rugs also work well under round tables.

ROOM SIZE GUIDE - selecting the right size rug

BEDROOM

The rug size you should select for your bedroom will be determined by your room size and the size of your bed.

5’ x 8’

TWIN SIZE BED

Pull together this room with a 5’ x 8’ rug. It will work perfectly under your twin bed. We recommend placing the rug vertically and keeping the back legs off the rug.

5’ x 8’

FULL SIZE BED

Lay the rug horizontally under the bed while keeping the back legs off the rug.

8’ x 10’, 9’ x 12’

TWIN SIZE BEDS

If you have two twin beds in the same room, an 8’ x 10’ or 9’ x 12’ works well to pull the room together.

8’ x 10’, 9’ x 12’

QUEEN SIZE BED

Laying the rug horizontally will work best. Depending on how much floor space you have in your room, you can choose to use an 8’ x 10’ or 9’ x 12’ rug.

9’ x 12’

KING SIZE BED

A king size bed calls for at least an 8’ x 10’ but usually a 9’ x 12’. Anything smaller would appear out of proportion.

OUTDOORS

Outdoor rugs are a great way to add color and style to your deck or patio. When choosing an outdoor rug, you must know the size of your outdoor furniture as well as the patio space.

2’ x 3’

INDOOR / OUTDOOR MAT

This small rug makes for a perfect room entry rug or doormat, inside or outside of your home. It’s great for catching excess dirt and water from your guest’s shoes.

8’ x 10’, 9’ x 12’

OUTDOOR DINING AREA

Similar guidelines as your dining room. Make sure the rug size you choose is large enough that when you extend the chairs away from the table they are still sitting on top of the rug. Larger size rugs work best for outdoor dining.

6’ - 8’ Round 4-6 PERSON TABLE

Round rugs are ideal under round tables, but be surethe round rug you choose is large enough.

Square rugs are ideal under square tables, but be sure the square rug you choose is large enough. Alternatively, you can also use a 5’ x 8’ rug under a Square table.

OUTDOOR SEATING AREA

This size rug will work well with any outdoor seating arrangement. You can choose to place the rug in front of your furniture or under the front legs, similar to how a living room is styled.

What is PET Yarn?

Pet Yarn is made from recycled PET plastic bottles. Single use plastics, such as water bottles, are a worldwide environmental hazard.

In India, more than half of PET bottles are recycled into other products, especially polyester fibers used in manufacturing textiles.

Kas is proud to be at the forefront of creating products from recycled plastic fibers that prevent PET plastic bottles from being buried in a landfill.

SHIPPING & RETURNS

• How do we ship?: We ship small parcel shipments via UPS or FedEx Ground. Any rug that is 8’ x 11’ or larger must be shipped by LTL carrier. If you have a preferred carrier, please mention at time of order placement.

• Drop-Ship Orders: It is our pleasure to drop ship any of your orders. Please remember that we must receive all drop-ship orders in writing or electronically.

• How do I cancel an order?: Please give us a call at 800-967-4254 with your KAS Account number, Purchase Order number and items you’d like to cancel. Cancellations are not final until confirmed by KAS.

• Our Return Policy: Please call us at 800-967-4254 to process a return. We have a 1 year manufacturer’s warranty that covers Damages & Defects. Returns for other reasons will be processed on a case-by-case basis. Return shipping costs may apply.

CARE & CLEANING

Just like everything else today, rugs need special care to prolong their beauty and provide years of use. Regular cleaning and adequate treatments will help extend the life of your rug. Use a rug pad specific to the type of surface on which you will be placing your rug. This will help protect your floor or wall-to-wall carpeting and will extend the life of your rug and prevent slippage.

WOOL

Wool will look great for a long time just by vacuuming regularly.

• Use only cold water when cleaning to avoid shrinkage.

• If spills occur, blot immediately, then clean with mild soap and cold water.

• Do not use oxygen cleaners on a wool rug.

• Do not use vacuum with beater bar.

• Avoid direct sunlight to prevent fading.

• For best results, periodic professional cleaning is recommended.

NATURAL

Natural fibers are highly absorbent and need to be cleaned regularly to keep them looking good long term.

• Vacuum regularly to keep dirt from getting trapped in the fibers.

• DO NOT steam clean or wet as natural fibers are highly absorbent and may cause shrinkage.

• Vacuum regularly WITHOUT the beater bar turned on or on the highest pile setting.

• Avoid direct sunlight to prevent fading.

POLYESTER & POLYPROPYLENE

Polyester is dirt and stain resistant and will look great for a long time just by vacuuming regularly.

• Use only cold water when cleaning to avoid shrinkage.

• If spills occur blot immediately.

• Use rug / carpet cleaners that are safe on synthetic fibers.

• Avoid direct sunlight to prevent fading.

• For best results, periodic professional cleaning is recommended.

FAUX SILK / VISCOSE

Your faux silk/viscose rug will look great for years to come with proper care and vacuuming regularly.

• Never saturate or soak your faux silk/viscose with water— this will damage the fibers and potentially your floor.

• Use only cold water if necessary to avoid shrinkage.

• If spills occur blot immediately then with mild soap & cold water.

TEXTURE

TWISTED FIBER RUGS

If your rug contains 100% or partial twisted fibers, turn the beater bar off or set the vacuum to a high pile setting to keep loops intact long term.

LOOP OR HI / LO CONSTRUCTION

If your rug contains 100% or partial loop or hi/lo construction...

• Set the beater bar to the off position or on a high pile setting to keep loops intact long term.

• If a loop does not stay intact at any point, simply use scissors to trim to the height of other loops.

KNITTED WEAVE OR FLATWEAVES

Natural fiber rugs have many weave types but in general appear to be knitted...

• If a knit or edge finishing frays due to wear at any point, use scissors to trim.

• Set the beater bar to the off position or on a high pile setting to keep the knits/weave intact long term.
