30 THINGS IN 30 DAYS www.30things30days.com F REEL A N C E

As a designer I have a particular interest in publications, generating new content in exciting but meaningful ways, and the psychological reasons we gravitate towards one design above another. Why we value humour so highly, and how important it is in cultivating an engaging society of designers and consumers are also important. In my MA project “30 things in 30 days” George Bernard Shaw’s quote “life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself” sparked my investigation. This led me to consider whether I could create a better version of myself, defined as the ‘happiest’, and researched happiness in the media, through experience, design and the economy. Through my research I discovered the best form of happiness comes from experience, even the bad ones are either character building or anecdotes. Through completing 30 new things in 30 days I gained 30 new experiences, hopefully creating the happiest version of myself. I have documented it so that others can be inspired to take on the 30 things in 30 days challenge.

The Design Process All the content has been sourced form first-hand experience. I travelled to Bury St Edmund and took some photos then did a view finder workshop which led me to a square format.

TALES MAGAZINE

TALES MAGAZI NE Founded in the late Summer of 2015, Tales is a newly established quarterly magazine. Curious and a bit whimsical, we are all about the joy of the narrative – we’re a story book for adults if you will CO - FO U N D ER/ D ESI GN ER

Sam Holden and I co-founded tales magazine and also co-edit the publication. It was really exciting developing the layouts for our first issue using all the wonderful work submitted to us. I’m lucky to be able to see it really come together in its final stage. Thank you to everyone who has contributed for their creativity and imagination.

TALES MAGAZINE

The Design Process This is an example of the way we put the magazine together. The entries are all printed and laid out on the floor to see which images go well together and to establish a visual language and flow. Then the order of the images are used to develop a written flat-plan. The printed images are then stuck into a book to see how the magazine would read as a printed product. I then use a combination of this book and flat-plan to build the edition digitally.

TALES MAGAZINE

Illustrations I add illustrations into the editions to go with written text from the creative writing entries and break up some of the visual articles.

LINZERS BAKERY I have had the opportunity to work with a diverse group of clients on solo and collaborative projects. F REEL A N C E

Social Media Content I went to a number of the bakeries and took photos to use on social media platforms and to update their website.

Promotional Material The bakery also had a number of lunch cafe’s. They were struggling to get people to buy their coffee as their was a larger coffee shop chain near by. I suggest loyalty cards and developed the design independently.
