香港藝術中心 Hong Kong Arts Centre 香港藝術中心是一所自負盈虧的非牟利組織。在過去三十八年來,中心一直 致力推動培育區內的藝術發展,透過展覽、藝術教育等項目推動當代文化及 藝術。位於灣仔的藝術中心主大樓配備劇場、電影院、畫廊、教室、工作 室、餐廳等綜合設施,每月舉行不同範疇的藝術節目,包括表演藝術、視覺 及錄像藝術;同時亦策劃公共藝術計劃、藝術會議及其他多元精彩藝術節目 等。而其轄下的香港藝術學院於二零零零年成立,是政府認可的學術機構, 由充滿熱誠並擁有卓越成就的藝術家負責當中之教學工作。學院的學歷頒授 課程集中在四個核心學術領域,包括藝術、應用藝術、媒體藝術和應用劇場 與戲劇教育。中心亦是「動漫基地」主營運機構,進一步推動本土文化創意 行業的發展。 The Hong Kong Arts Centre (HKAC) is a self-financed and non-profit organisation. For the past 38 years, the HKAC has played a unique role in promoting contemporary art and culture in Hong Kong and abroad. The HKAC’s main building is situated in Wan Chai, with facilities including a cinema, theatres, galleries, classrooms, studios, restaurants and office space. The HKAC provides a wide range of programmes on performing arts, visual arts, film and video arts, public art projects, conferences, art festivals and more, connecting the arts to the general public. Its education arm, the Hong Kong Art School (HKAS), is an accredited institute established in 2000 and is staffed by a group of dedicated artists. The focus of its awardbearing curriculum lies in four core academic areas — Fine Art, Applied Art, Media Art, and Applied Theatre and Drama Education. The HKAC is also the Main Operator of the “Comix Home Base” (CHB) , operating it as the platform for exchange and interaction for the comics industry, locally and internationally.

We believe that imagination and interactively question-and-answering encourage observation and provoke thinking. In this section, we have suggested some guiding questions organized under different categories. They start from “observing the artwork”, followed by “direction of thinking”, and close with “discussion and imagination” about the theme of exhibition. You may explore the exhibition on your own with the help with this activity booklet. Alternatively, you can borrow the audio guide equipment for free and listen to the stories behind each artwork in the exhibition, while using the exhibition guidebook as a tour reference.
This education kit is tailor-made for parents and children, teachers, primary and secondary school students, and anyone who is interested in exploring contemporary art. The education kit is divided into two sections: Art Appreciation and Interactive Thinking.

Interactive Thinking 這部分就每件藝術品提供了不同的小活動和思考問題,嘗試從互動的角度加深觀 賞者對作品和展覽主題的認識。當中我們標示了作品的觀看重點,從「視覺元 素」、「作品主題」及「呈現方式」,藉以歸納各作品獨特之處。你可以帶著手 冊回家,與身邊的人分享這次展覽的感受和經驗。 In this section, in an attempt to enrich visitors’ understanding of the artworks and exhibition theme, some interactive activities and questions are listed for art appreciation. We have highlighted the important points concerning the viewing of artworks, ranging from “visual elements”, “theme of artwork” to “way of presentation”, in order to highlight the unique features of each work. You can take the education kit home and share your experience and feeling of this exhibition with your friends and family.

藝術家在某個平常的下午編排了一套只有兩個演員的小劇場。在各 自身處的車箱中,一位激動、一位冷漠,二人隔空對話,為毫不知 情的乘客編織了一個充滿戲劇性的夢。 The artist arranged a short drama of only two people set in an ordinary afternoon. One agitated and the other calm and cool, each in his or her own train compartment, the actors composed a lyrical and theatrical dream for the unsuspecting passengers through the imaginary dialogue.

獨自窺伺箱內的微型景觀,意味藝術家要與你來一次私密的對話。 小小的旅行箱守護著藝術家希望帶患病父親旅行的冀盼,用藝術創 造的想像空間實踐二人願望。 The private conversation with the artist begins at the moment you peep into the miniature scene inside the case. The little luggage case is a safe, one holding the artist’s wish of bringing his father to go travel, a wish shared by the two and realized in the imaginary space conceived in art.
藝術家試圖藉著演員在列車上的演出,打破一般人對身邊事物的距離和沈默的態度。試試幻 想,如果兩位演員在香港演出,旁人的反應會是怎樣?為什麼有這樣的反應呢? In order to break the “mask” and “armor” of passengers, who are apathetic to most situations in the surrounding, the artist arranged a performance on a train. Let’s imagine, what would the reaction of people be if these two actors perform the same in Hong Kong? Why would Hong Kong people react in this way?

乏味的城市誘發藝術家無窮想像,以淘氣方式打破沉悶。公車廢氣 吹出美好泡泡,糖衣與毒藥,現實與虛幻,難道城市不就是一個充 滿玩味和矛盾的地方嗎?
由藝術家設計的城市會是甚麼模樣的呢?宇治野宗輝找來不同日常 生活物件,讓它們互相碰撞,互維影響,建構一座似乎充滿邏輯運 作卻又帶點活躍跳脫、多元多變的巨大城邦。
The dull city life is a catalyst for the wild imagination of the artist, who challenges the rigid pattern like a mischievous kid. Bubbles from the exhaust gas of a bus, poison and candy wrap, the real and unreal… after all the city is just an ironic farce, isn’t it?
What does a city designed by an artist look like? Ujino Muneteru gathers daily commodities and brings out the chemistry among them when they are integrated and interact with each other. A large city is built, logical yet unconventional, lively and versatile.

獨自窺伺箱內的微型景觀,意味藝術家要與你來一次私密的對話。 小小的旅行箱守護著藝術家希望帶患病父親旅行的冀盼,用藝術創 造的想像空間實踐二人願望。 Japanese photographer spent six years to document the Kowloon Walled City, a place with an ambiguous legal status due to a diplomatic glitch. He reveals the condition inside the city on the eve of demolition, and that during and after its fall. The moments frozen by the camera witness the fissure in the city of Hong Kong in the old days, evoking recollections of the exotic area once existed.

Is it still important for art pieces to be unique? The tree-like object in view is derived from the tool used for molding copper statues, an incisive statement that challenges the established concept of “sculpture”.

在這個佈滿文化符號的城市,地標似乎已經過多。藝術家以攝影構 圖改變觀賞建築物的角度,在寸金尺土的香港開墾新地標。 Obsessed with cultural symbols, the city seems stuffed with too many “landmarks”. The artist introduces new perspectives of looking at buildings, thus creates new landmarks in Hong Kong where land is worth more than gold.

逐漸拉遠的影像讓都市景觀中的錯置場景慢慢對焦。藝術家巧妙運 用輕鬆幽默的取鏡手法,於臺北內充滿異國風情的建築中營造疑幻 疑真的情景,暗示城市生活的荒謬和局限。

重複的動作,不變的表情,斷斷續續的昔日片段似曾相識。真實的 場景與虛浮的插畫拼湊起來,隱晦道出日戰時期臺灣的苦澀回憶。
The zooming out of the video slowly draws one’s attention to the misplaced setting in the urban landscape. Using a cleverly amusing approach in his shooting, the artist creates a dreamlike atmosphere among exotic architecture in Taipei, revealing the absurdity and limitations of city life.
Repetitive actions, unchanging expressions… bits and pieces of the past seem to surface when these familiar circumstances come into sight. As fictive illustrations come across real settings, the suffering through the difficult times in Taiwan during the Japanese Invasion is subtly retold.
藝術家的作品以動畫混合真實場境製作,把自己對台灣歷史的想像放到事發的地點。試參考藝 術家,找一個你認為充滿香港歷史味道的地方拍照,然後想像當時在那裡生活的景像,在照片 加上插畫或文字。 Applying animations on some scenery footages, the artist imagines the history of Taiwan again in association of the particular places. Let’s try to choose a place where you think is full of history and culture of Hong Kong. Take a picture and write something with your imagination of the history of that space on the photo.

The wooden luggage case is a mini movie theatre. Viewers have an unusual experience with the interactive elements and cinematic arrangement specially designed by the artist. Here, even primitive materials and daily commodities can be movie stars.

The artificial bamboo forest is made up of porcelain parts. The red colour used here is an allusion to the story of Su Shi painting bamboos with vermilion pigment instead of black ink. The installation radiates the unadorned beauty of traditional craft. Bamboo is neither red nor black; the artist demonstrates his philosophy of art by referring to tradition and challenging it at the same time, and this is when originality arises.
