RV Travel During a Pandemic Tips to Stay Safe

I

n times when planes, buses, and trains are still very much unsafe, travelling with an RV

is pretty much the perfect solution. Not only will you be able to enjoy comfort and spaciousness that’s simply not that in other means of transports, you’ll also be able to stay completely safe from covid-19 if you take the appropriate measures.

If you own or plan to rent an RV and you’re eager to get away for a bit and rest your mind, then we can help! Here’s what you need to pay attention to in order to keep yourself safe and enjoy your vacation fully.

Consider your destination Now might not be the right time to plan a long trip. If possible, choose a more local destination that’s just outside of your town so you’re close enough to come back quickly in case of an emergency, but still far enough from all the noise.

Longer trips are tricky to pull off during a pandemic travel restrictions are in effect all over the world, and the further away you go, the more careful you’ll have to be. This doesn’t have to be a bad thing either – people rarely think to explore what’s right there in their neighborhood, so you might be surprised to discover all sorts of fun things to do.

Travel with people from your household Until we all get vaccine shots, traveling with anyone other than the people we already live with is unsafe. While it might be perfectly alright to meet a friend for a socially distant coffee while you both wear protective masks, you’re going to have a much harder time keeping that distance at all times during travel.

Make reservations and plan your route carefully As soon as travel restrictions loosen even a little bit, people rush to hotels and campsites. The place that was empty one week could quickly fill up with travelers the next, so it’s best to make a reservation to wherever you’re going just to be safe.

You also want to plan out your route – make it so that there are as few stops along the way as possible. This way you’ll reduce your risk of accidental transmissions.

Get an RV with all the necessary amenities Your RV should be your safe space, so you want to make sure you’re as comfortable as possible. If you’re renting out a vehicle you should pick the one that has its own bathroom with a shower. If you’re using your own, consider investing in gadgets and appliances that will make the trip fun and easy.

For example, good stereo speakers or TV will ensure you have plenty of entertainment, while a decent coffee maker will mean you won’t have to rely on gas station swill to get your daily dose of caffeine.

Of course, a good RV air conditioner is also important if you want to adjust the temperature in the place until you’re completely comfortable with it.

Keep following CDC guidelines If you go out of the RV, then wear a mask and stay six feet away from everyone. The CDC guidelines are simple, and you shouldn’t have any issues following them even on the road. Other measures such as frequent hand washing should also be obeyed.

One note about the mask – make sure you wear it so it cover both your mouth and your nose. Not wearing your protective gear correctly defeats the point of even having it in the first place.

Don’t let strangers into your RV You might meet new friends on your trip and you’re free to chat and exchange contact information, but be wary of letting them visit your RV. The virus has the ability to stick to surfaces and stay alive for hours, so letting unfamiliar people inside means unnecessarily risking your health.

Disinfect the entire vehicle This is especially important if you’re renting out an RV. Frequent disinfection and cleaning will reduce your chances of getting sick and developing a serious form of the disease, so bring a bottle of disinfectant with you.

Travel is important for our mental health. While the situation with the pandemic still hasn’t been resolved, going out of town for a while might be just what you need to rest and unwind. Just follow our safety tips and you should have no trouble enjoying your vacation!

Skincare Routine for the Fall Season

Designed by stories / Freepik

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

S

ummer is drawing to a close and fall is approaching rapidly, forcing many of us to

consider a shift in our skincare routine for the fall season. Dryer air and cooler weather means more opportunities for skin issues like eczema and dry, itchy skin to flare up. The addition of face masks to our daily wardrobe, has caused many dry, itchy skin issues and breakouts that we are all dying to see gone!

You should be changing your skincare routine as you change your seasonal wardrobe, to ensure your skin doesn’t get too accustomed to the products and methods you use regularly. It’s time to explore a few autumn-appropriate skincare routines that will keep your skin looking and feeling vibrant as the seasons change.

Why does skin change in the fall months? “During summer, there’s often more humidity to help moisture stay in the skin and protect its barrier,” says Nancy Samolitis, MD, a board-certified dermatologist and co-founder and medical director of FACILE dermatology + boutique, in Beverly Hills, Calif. “In the cooler months, the air gets drier outside and inside with the operation of heaters. When skin starts losing moisture, the barrier can get disrupted, causing increased sensitivity, dryness, and irritation.”

Fall Season Skincare Tips: Each season creates unique challenges for skin. Summer months mean your skin is more exposed to direct sunlight or things like chlorine or salt – things that dry out your skin and cause irritation. Sweat can also lead to clogged pores or breakouts. Try using these fall season skincare tips and tricks to keep your skin vibrant and glowing for the fast approaching holiday season.

· Hydrate with elastin, collagen, or aloe People with existing skin issues like eczema or psoriasis often feel an itching or burning in their skin when the seasons change. The best way to treat overly sensitive skin during season transitions is to hydrate with products that use elastin, collagen or aloe as the active ingredient. The elastin and collagen will help your skin recover from any harsh weather damage, while the aloe soothes and exfoliates.

· Switch to a thicker moisturizer Did you know that mobile searches for the “best” moisturizers have grown over 115% in the past few years? We typically don’t need as much moisturizer during the summer months as we need in the fall or winter seasons. Cooler temperatures signal the perfect time to switch to a thicker moisturizer, to protect your skin during the more harsh, coldweather conditions.

· Use a lip moisturizer and add eye creams Sensitive areas like lips and eyes need some extra help during the cooler seasons. Both areas have thinner skin that reacts quickly to cold or dry conditions. Using a lip moisturizer and moisturizing eye creams are important for protecting your sensitive areas during colder weather.

· Cut back on exfoliating Over-exfoliation can create cracks in the skin that lead to loss of hydration and even redness or inflammation. To ensure we have an even skin tone during colder months, cut back on exfoliating, and be gentler to your skin. It will suffer enough from the harsh colder weather, without you adding to its trauma. It’s easy to overdo it, so cut back immediately if your skin is red, inflamed or itchy after a wash.

· Add Vitamin C to your regimen We wear less sunscreen in the colder months, making it vital that you add Vitamin C to your skincare routine to help protect against SPF rays. Using products with more Vitamin C helps with skin pigmentation and the natural production of collagen.

· Reduce the appearance of pore size Our pores tend to expand in summer months to allow for more sweating, making fall the perfect time to reduce pore size and get the sleek look we want. Many people use a purifying mask to absorb extra oil in the skin and clean out your pores. Hydrating masks are also great for reducing pore size, but be sure to limit your use of masks to once or twice per week.

· Check your skincare products ingredients Finally, as you shift products and routines this season, take the opportunity to look at what ingredients are used in your skincare products. One thing to look for is the use of safe, FDA certified cosmetic dyes. Products that are approved for food, drugs and cosmetics are safer to use on your skin, and proven the most effective as well.

While you are pulling out your sweaters and fuzzy socks, take a moment to consider what your skin needs this season. Give yourself the best shot at healthy, glowing and even skin by changing up your skincare routine to protect your face during the more harsh, coldweather months.

Tips to Achieve Your Fitness and Health Goals A

s we approach the end of one of the strangest years on record, many are thinking

about how much life has changed recently. 2022 promises to be another year of learning experiences, as we all reconfigure our lives for maximum health and productivity. If, like many, you have fitness and health goals for the upcoming year, these 10 tips are a great way to make exercise and your new healthier routine simple, fun and transformative.

1. Set goals Before setting out on your fitness journey, carefully consider what goals you want to achieve. Be it weight loss, or to head off health problems, setting clear and achievable goals is the place to start! It’s critical that you start out with simple fitness goals, and ramp up from there. Small successes at the beginning of the process are sure to help keep you motivated in the long-term.

2. Make it fun Exercise doesn’t need to be pumping iron or ultra-marathons. Choose sports or activities that you enjoy, and incorporate them into your daily routine.

33

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

For example, if you enjoy soccer, join a local adult league for a great team fitness atmosphere. If aerobics or dancing are your happy place, join a local fitness club and take a few classes! You might even discover a few new activities, or even make some fitnessminded friends!

3. Make physical activity part of your daily routine The Department of Health and Human services recommends that adults get an average of 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week, or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise per week. It may sound like a lot, but if you break it up into 30 minutes per day, you can already factor in 2 days off for rest! Not so intimidating now, is it?!

4. Ditch your all-or-nothing mind-set Better fitness and health is a marathon, not a sprint. So forget your all-or-nothing mind-set, and remember to celebrate small wins along the way. Many feel that taking a day off or eating badly negates all their hard work, but they’d be wrong! Don’t eliminate every unhealthy thing that makes you happy, as total avoidance only creates cravings. Simply plan to curtail or moderate your unhealthy habits, in an effort to slowly phase them out naturally.

5.

Is saving money one of your goals? Consider visiting a boutique or second hand clothing shop, for great lightly-used workout brands at fantastic prices.

6. Increase Fluid Intake Staying hydrated is vital to keeping up your energy and getting the exercise you need to stay healthy. For reference, a 150lb woman needs to consume about 75 ounces of water per day to stay healthy. The more you work out, the more fluid you will need to drink, to replace the minerals and nutrients your body loses when we sweat. Water is always an easy go-to for hydration, but some people are getting creative by mixing in coconut water for a little extra flavour and electrolytes.

7. Join forces with friends You never know which friends might be thinking about their fitness goals, so ask around for a fitness partner! Planning your exercise routine together is a great way to stay motivated and excited, and also gives you built-in motivation to keep going! Choose a friend who you can rely on to encourage you, and make sure he or she is as committed to fitness as you are, to avoid getting dragged down by an under-performing or under-motivated friend.

8. Reward yourself Celebrating your successes might be the most important step you take on your fitness journey. Find a way to reward yourself for all your hard work and successes. For example, schedule a celebratory trip when you reach your weight goal, or reward yourself for small, daily victories with a delicious healthy snack, or a simple pat on the back and a smile.

Being more fit means you will feel better about yourself, and will live a longer and healthier life. We are all learning that we can’t control how the world changes on its axis, but we can control our own bodies and our minds.

MYS 2021: THE EPICENTRE OF A BOOMING YACHTING INDUSTRY As participants reunited in the flesh, the quays of Port Hercule filled with a unanimous and very palpable feeling of euphoria. Legitimate questions raised over the last few months concerning the show’s new format finally gave way to a long awaited - and truly successful - Monaco Yacht Show!

Initial feedback from exhibitors and yachting media reports all point to a positive and encouraging conclusion: the MYS has risen up to the industry-wide challenge set forth a few months ago, by building the show around the visitors’ experience and that of (future) yacht buyers in particular. Gaëlle Tallarida, General Director of the MYS: “We worked alongside stakeholders from across the industry in order to put on a show that meets the latter’s expectations and, more specifically, those of their clientele. The 2021 MYS appears to have benefited from the excitement spurred by this reunion, as well as from the favourable state of the market, with an increase in yacht sales over the last 18 months: clients have turned to yachting to escape the gloomy context that the pandemic has brought about and the frustration of having their freedom restricted. Therefore, 2021 has been a win-win for everyone involved in yachting. Thanks to the steering committee founded this year, we intend to pursue our collaboration in order to further improve the MYS for the 2022 edition”.
In 2021, the exhibition appeared more diverse than ever, thus disproving the cautious predictions made by the organisers at the beginning of the summer. Week after week, the show came to life in sync with the increasing general excitement. While 300 exhibitors and a maximum of 90 yachts had originally been announced, the 2021 MYS featured 440 exhibitors and 101 superyachts, half of which were launched in 2020 and 2021, reaching an estimated total worth of €3.6 billion at the start of the show. Featured yachts included 37 new launches and 14 superyachts measuring over 70m in length.

19 000 visitors: Less is more
Travel constraints and health regulations partly explain the drop in attendance on Monaco’s quaysides, but a reduced turnout had in fact been expected and planned for by the organisers. Their objective was to decrease the number of visitors, whilst focusing on specific profiles and thereby facilitating connections between exhibitors and their targeted clientele. The MYS also benefitted from more clear-cut themed exhibition areas, thus improving the visitors’ experience: on the first day of the show (accessible upon invitation only), yacht owners and future yacht buyers and charterers - 300 of whom were invited by the MYS organisers - enjoyed an exclusive and therefore more pleasant access to the Dockside Area. Here, they discovered a wide variety of yachts and tenders and met designers, brokers and shipyards. In the airconditioned tents set up on Quai Antoine Ier, yacht owner representatives, advisors (who also had access to the Dockside Area on Day 1) and visitors from within the industry were able to further exchange with attending equipment manufacturers and luxury brands. According to the show’s yacht builders and brokers, their visiting schedules were full from the very start of the event and potential clients came on board with serious intent to buy. This trend certainly fits in with the current rise in yacht sales. Builders remain confident that the new MYS format will eventually bring enormous added value to the industry. Theo Hooning, Secretary General of SYBAss (an association of 40+ metre yacht builders): “The 2021 edition of the Monaco Yacht Show was the first opportunity to see the results of a change in approach to the show, by placing the focus firmly on the customers of the industry rather than the business activities within it. The result was a more relaxed atmosphere, and with no overcrowding of the quays the experience for those customers was much more in line with the superyacht experience itself. It is important that we capitalise on this opportunity and continue on our chosen path, improving where necessary. In this way, the Monaco Yacht Show will maintain its important and high-profile role both by showcasing the unique products shaped by the industry and also by promoting the superyacht lifestyle”.

The day before the show, the 5th edition of the Monaco Yacht Summit - which has become a yearly staple here - welcomed some sixty owners, charterers and future buyers (or their representatives) in a positively confidential setup.

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

Before visiting the show the following day, participants had the opportunity to talk with various speakers, designers, brokers and builders, gleaning essential information in order to safely embark on their yacht construction, chartering or purchasing projects.

Meeting designers and sailboat builders
Among the new additions to the 2021 MYS, the Yacht Design & Innovation Hub offered visitors a better understanding of a custom yacht’s construction process and a look into the future of superyacht design, thanks to lectures by designers Espen Øino, Luiz De Basto Designs, Sam Sorgiovanni, Sinot Yacht Architecture and Design and Winch Design. This interactive space also allowed attending designers to present their work, giving visitors an opportunity to meet the experts who will design their future yacht. The new Sailing Yacht Area featured no less than 12 large sailing yachts. A fitting number, given that sail boats currently represent 15% of the world’s yachting fleet. This space dedicated to sailing yachts targeted a new yachting clientele, showcasing the benefits of a sportier and more environmentally friendly way of sailing, whilst still enjoying the same level of comfort, technology and facilities as on board motor yachts. The success of the 2021 MYS was all but a foregone conclusion: despite a favourable and flourishing market, the pandemic made exhibitors’ participation and the unfolding of the show itself quite uncertain. The very real enthusiasm that filled Port Hercule is therefore a sure sign that the MYS remains a powerful vector for promoting and marketing yachting activities. The 2021 edition thus marks a key step in the MYS’s new approach for the coming years: the event aims to offer a tailor-made platform to promote superyachting for a new generation of customers, thus benefitting all sectors across the market.
