asexuality is not seen as a real sexuality ‘maybe you’ve just not found the right person’ ‘Someone clearly hasn’t shown you right’ ‘Its just a phase’ ‘I’m sure I could change your mind’ ‘You cant have a relationship or love without sex’ ‘You’re obviously just damaged’ ‘Is there something wrong with you?’ ‘Is there something wrong with me?’ ‘Maybe you’re just gay’ ‘You’re so cold’ ‘How can you be so selfish?’ ‘Get over yourself ’ ‘Maybe you should see someone’ ‘Asexuality isn’t real’ ‘I feel so sorry for your boyfriend’

photoshoot For my first photo-shoot, I want to explore the idea of touch and the sense. I want to look at the way we may over sexualise otherwise non-sexual images. I want to use the idea of fruit to look into this. Looking and the way we can change the texture of the objects. This will be positioned with close up photographs of body parts, such as fingers, face and also bits of skin. Representing the closeness of human contact and how to some this isn’t a desired thing but instead uncomfortable or messy, like with the destruction of the fruit. As much as I don’t want my shoot to be sexually focused, I think as a concept its interesting as it appears differently depending on the reader. To each it will have a slightly different meaning. However, I do want the concept to be clear displayed.

A range of photographers, who’s work has inspired me with the subject of the photos and the way they have been executed. Especially focusing on the fruit and close up of fingers and lips.

For my second shoot I wanted to look at the relationship of asexuality, something which I think the media forgets. Asexual people do have relationships, this come in many forms and some aren’t that different from ‘normal’ relationships. Through my shoot I want to explore the view of an asexuals relationship with others and also themselves. With many other sexualities, asexuality can be difficult to deal with and for many they can feel very alone. With even many in LGBTQ+ groups not accepting asexuality as relevant but as a choice. Something which has been quite present in the LGBTQ+ social media format in the last year. From personal experience this can make coming out as asexual very lonely and scary. I want this feeling of aloneness to be present within my photographs. That being said of course asexuals have relationships with other people, this again being another aspect that I want to show within my work. It’s something which I feel is particularly challenging for asexuals, something I have struggled with myself. I want to show both the positives and negatives of these relationships, as with all relationships there is both sides. I think that to many, I relationship with someone who is asexual may seem like on of the worst

things you could have in a relationship. I also feel that its very daunting to be asexual and be in a relationship, it can often be very frustrating on both parts. Often feeling that you are not enough for your partner and especially when you first become in a relationship with someone, it can cause a lot of self doubt for the partner. In past relationships, this has come out as anger and aggression which can of course be damaging for both involved. In my photo-shoot I want to show this relationship and I sense of compromise within the positioning of the models. I also want to put the models in position where they have to trust each other, I haven’t decided on the exact details but the possibility of the models being in a very small space. Or in a situation where they particularly have to work together. For me this is the reality of a relationship where one person identities as asexual, its not celibacy but compromise. I want the overall effect of the shoot to be very personal and feel quite intimate. I think its important to do this with any shoot which is representing a relationship.

graphics I really like the idea of doing a lot of collage and adding a lot of texture into my work. I like the idea of using mixed media, adding in paint and stitch. I will then scan this back in and use within my digital work, I feel that this adds a really nice home-made feel to it. It also makes it feel a lot more personal, instead something which is just mass produced. I think this is really important when it is about something personal and quite sensitive.
